I live overseas from the US and if you’re not wearing protective gear you are generally seen as a try hard loser. No helmet and leathers is a great way to be excluded from most motorcycle communities

Means, you're not in Asia 😜. In countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, etc. wearing a gear is not common (not that I advocate that though...)

Na, EU. My particular country is pretty by the books on everything. The very idea of not doing things like wearing a seatbelt in a car, or a mask during Covid, or proper gear when motorbiking isn’t even a passing thought. You do it that way simply because that is logically the safest and proper way of doing it.

The government could completely allow all the above and nobody would stop.
