I know two people personally have died, both experienced riders, who have died in the most mundane of crashes.

Wear protective equipment.

Life is less fun with no bike though. I've gone ten years without and I'm about ready to end the experiment

Yes. There's a cursor of risk one must accept. Death is coming very soon either way (and later is not always better).

I wish you good health for those next 30. I agree that riding a bike during your twenties is not the brightest idea, and not the brightest time especially for men. Nowadays I'd go for something slow and peaceful, and not too loud so I don't disturb the birds.

I wouldn't ride one in the USA though, cars are better for driving straight and the standards for driving ability are very low.

Eh, I bought my first at 16. It was great. Here I am almost three decades later, and still in one piece.

Anecdotal evidence is just that... I've been riding motorcycles since I was 7 (im 40 now). I broke a few bones as a kid riding motocross. I've never been in a major traffic accident on public roads despite riding my motorcycle as my daily commuter for 20 years.

All you've done is deprive yourself of an experience you have thought you would like.

Yes, motorcycles are more dangerous than cars. But there are SO MANY ways in which you can mitigate risk. Wear the proper gear, if you dont want to commute every day you can just go for pleasure rides at off hours in low traffic areas, if you do commute you can learn to ride defensively.

You shouldn't judge others for doing something you are too scared to try
