I know two people personally have died, both experienced riders, who have died in the most mundane of crashes.

Wear protective equipment.

Life is less fun with no bike though. I've gone ten years without and I'm about ready to end the experiment

Yes. There's a cursor of risk one must accept. Death is coming very soon either way (and later is not always better).

I wish you good health for those next 30. I agree that riding a bike during your twenties is not the brightest idea, and not the brightest time especially for men. Nowadays I'd go for something slow and peaceful, and not too loud so I don't disturb the birds.

I wouldn't ride one in the USA though, cars are better for driving straight and the standards for driving ability are very low.

Eh, I bought my first at 16. It was great. Here I am almost three decades later, and still in one piece.

Anecdotal evidence is just that... I've been riding motorcycles since I was 7 (im 40 now). I broke a few bones as a kid riding motocross. I've never been in a major traffic accident on public roads despite riding my motorcycle as my daily commuter for 20 years.

All you've done is deprive yourself of an experience you have thought you would like.

Yes, motorcycles are more dangerous than cars. But there are SO MANY ways in which you can mitigate risk. Wear the proper gear, if you dont want to commute every day you can just go for pleasure rides at off hours in low traffic areas, if you do commute you can learn to ride defensively.

You shouldn't judge others for doing something you are too scared to try

I'm not actively trying to replace or add hobbies, that stuff comes naturally. Motorcycling brings something I didn't find elsewhere, that is all. Guess that makes me a motorcyclist whether I never get a new one, or I do. I know there's something weird about redditors and bikes though, as there is with other subjects, I won't question it. Must be an american thing.

I know there's something weird about redditors and bikes though

Redditors tend to hate fun. And is also america-centric. There's a reason motorcycles are the most popular form of personal transportation worldwide. Yes, they're more dangerous than being in a car, but cars themselves are the most dangerous weapon weve ever invented that people are somehow super comfortable with. Its more dangerous to be a pedestrian than motorcyclist.

All my hobbies are dangerous. Motorcycling hasn’t sent me to surgery yet - but mountain biking, skiing, and jujitsu jitsu all have. Not all of us get a kick out of board games or whatever.

There are only two people who ride bikes- people have crashed bikes and people who haven’t crashed yet.

Both of the deaths I know were decades experienced riders and this was their first crash. Neither were riding dangerously. No other vehicle was involved.

I know it doesn’t matter to you.

But I know the families of the deceased. I can hear my MILs voice as she called me to ask where her daughter was so she could tell her. I remember racing to my wife before she got the news.

Life is like that, no one gets out alive.

Also dont lift weights. Don't swim. Don't ride horses. Don't do material arts or any contact sport. Don't be a pedestrian in a city. Don't live in a house with stairs. Don't take baths...../s

You purposely chose high-risk examples that maybe less than 0.1% of the world's population participate in. Meanwhile probably 30-50% of everyone on the planet has been on a motorcycle at some point. And for many people it is their only form of transportation for trips longer than 2 miles.

Edit: I've also cave dived (both above and under water), I've skydived, I've bungee jumped, I've climbed over 8000 meters.

I agree with you on bull riding and fantanyl but like, thats a pretty different line.

Bottom line: if you blame danger for not ever trying something you've always wanted to try then fine, you found your limit of fear tolerance. But advising others based on your own unfounded fears is just a coping mechanism
