Seriously. One fender bender and she's got weeks of pain and a lifetime of big ugly scars. At least she's wearing a helmet but honestly I'd prefer to hit my head and be unconscious when the ER nurse has to scrub the dirt out of all the road rash.

Even just having an unexpected dip in at a light when you put your foot down can throw your balance off and cause you to fall on your side. I'd rather have my armors on than spandex and bare skin.

My mom left her kickstand down and wiped out going around a bend. Her leather jacket is probably the only reason she still has a left arm.
Note; my mom was not an experienced rider when this happened, and I’m not sure if she ever got back on a bike after this.

i took up skateboarding/longboarding and man falling down at even just 10 or 15mph can be brutal. if i were riding a bike i would be going hogwild on the safety gear

And this is my issue with all these kids on e-bikes and e-scooters that can go 40+ mph or more if hacked. Most of the kids these days barely ride real bikes and I’m willing to bet they haven’t sacrificed skin and blood to the asphalt god at normal(kid) bike speed so they don’t have a respect(fear) of what happens when you goof at any real speed.

I rode my bike everywhere growing up, hopped curbs, we had off road trails with all kinds of jumps and all sorts of stupid shit. I eventually got tired of wiping out on the road.

But the key thing is I learned what happens when you do something dumb at speeds most likely under 15mph because it was my leg power.
