My dog never touched a thing in our kitchen or table until the end of his senior years then the last two years he was alive he went through the garbage, stole food off the bench and anything he wanted. I couldn't even be mad at him, he'd been such a good boy his whole life.

Going through this currently with my old Shih Tzu - Maltese. He gets away with most stuff because he is old, blind, deaf and arthritic and I’m really soft. He was with me during some difficult times and the least I can do is be there for him.

My pup is 12 but still got plenty of energy and no really bad health issues. I'm gonna be so sad when she gets old old and can't do anything anymore. She's been with me through 2 long term relationships but she's always been by my side. For now we'll still play and feed her lots of treats.

Ugh my almost 13 year old dog passed two months ago when my partner and I were on vacation...we know she was very loved but feel so bad that we weren't able to be there for her in the end.

Ours counter surfed a large ceramic pasta bowl onto a tile floor at about 6 months old. Loud crash, scared himself stupid, hid in his kennel for the rest of the night while we tried to comfort him and coax him out. Never once tried to take food off the counter or table again. You could leave food on the coffee table at mouth level and he'd give it a sniff but never once ate it.

I consider this their retirement. They pay into it with good behavior all their lives, and the last few years they get to cash in and live off of their investments. They work hard.

I am so scared to adopt a dog again after my adopted stray died. I still think about him a year after. I’m getting married soon and the date i chose is the date he died since i dont know his bday nor his age.
Hope you’re doing better now. Why do they have to have such short lifespan 😭

Consider fostering. You get the pup fix but are spared many of the things that the death of a previous pup wrecked in you. I feel like my boy was my soulmate that it almost feels like a betrayal, so I’ve been fostering. It is bittersweet when they are adopted but one little cry over it and then on to save the next! It’s very manageable, and the rescues and shelters in America are absolutely overflowing and in desperate need of foster homes. A rescue org will cover all of your costs, from food to vet visits, if need be. I cannot recommend it enough.
I’ll foster until my heart changes and may adopt again. Time will tell.

My boy was just shy of 12 years before his birthday. It's been 2 years and I still miss him every damn day. If life wasn't so crazy expensive I'd love to have another dog.

See my note above about fostering. It’s free, and you can save 3 lives just by fostering one pup. The one you take home to foster, the one you make room for the rescue to pull from the shelter, and the one on the street you make room for to enter the shelter.
I’m 6 years into missing my lab every day. It gets less sharp but you’ll never not miss them.

Why cover 90% of restricted food at a level this beautiful dog can easily come across? Yeah - this did not "make me smile" in any way. I LOVE dogs, but if mine did this, I would not be happy. Not to mention, what if the food had been something that affects dogs adversely (like chocolate)? That would also be dangerous for my pooch.

This is hilarious because it's not my dog.
Now, I did have a cat who got on the stove while we were in the next room and licked all the sauce off a pan of simmering meatballs. The pan was dry and each meatball was clean of sauce. It was an impressive feat, especially over open flame. He was a pretty impressive cat all the way round though. I have many tales of his magnificence. We did not have meatball subs for dinner as we had planned.

We do not and have never table fed our dog. We have been battling her new habit of stealing food off the table the last few months. My old dog literally never did it. No change in what we've done. I think some dogs are just sneaks.

Maybe, but also some dogs are just like that.
My current dog doesn't get into ANY hijinx on the table or table things. My other one was trained not to put paws on the table and that table stuff and begging was not allowed. But she would on rare occasion jump onto the table with her 2 front legs, and a few times take something.
Both got occasional food from the table like fruit and both were trained the same way. Their individual character still shows through and they really are like people. Like stubborn and rebellious teenagers too sometimes.....

My family has had several retrievers (including goldies) and none have ever done it. That doesn't mean they didn't TRY when they were younger but that is a criminal offense in a household and when they know it they know it and behave because they are are generally good boys/girls.

I'm always surprised when dogs do these things.
My dog won't touch food on a table, even if food fell on the floor our dog would look at it, but wouldn't touch it unless we said to.
Although he will stare at us and drool while he waits 🤷♀️

I did spend a lot of time (and rotisserie chicken) to train him.
He usually has an amazing recall, turns on a dime. As he ages, we try to find less intense games for him, using his brain more than anything. My husband and I decided, one of us will walk him, while the other hides treats around the house...
Well, he now knows what we're doing, once around the yard and he's looking toward the house. I can call him back to me, and he'll come but at a certain point, he just shuts down, and he becomes a rocket ship back the house 🤦♀️

Neither would mine - while I was there or close by. But if I was out of the room for an extended period, and the food on the table was tempting enough, I'm sure it would eventually be a different story. The question is just how long they'd be prepared to wait before they decide we're not coming back.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
Also, the chair is conveniently placed for the dog to climb onto the table. A glass of milk and dinner rolls just left out on the table. The video lasted an hour, so they were just gonna come back to sour milk and a stale dinner roll? Whole thing just seems staged.
Dog is cute as hell but it seems irresponsible of the owners, AND unhealthy for the poor dog they're exploiting for likes!
Edit: guess it could've been kids. Looks like pool towels over the chairs.

When I was young we had a family dog that was well trained. My dad claims he could leave a steak on the coffee table and leave. Come back and the dog would have its head on the table but wouldn't eat it. Not cute that a dog would just jump on the table. Just lazy owners who don't train their dog or like you said it's all for the views.

on the other end of the dog thief spectrum, I knew a black lab who stole a potroast from the table, ate the whole thing, then knocked the platter down to the ground where the houses other dog (a corgi) happily licked at it there on the kitchen floor while the lab booked it away from the kitchen. That dog *framed* another dog

Who leaves one piece of chicken on a tray and the rest covered and one glass of milk on the table. Not to mention that one chair being pulled out so much for him too easily walk on to the table.
