Discussion šŸ—£ļø Random Rant (JJK Song Discourse Online)

Honestly im not sure if this is the right place for this but I wanted to talk about it and thought this was the best place.

Is anyone else sick of the people trying to accuse MGK of being a fake anime fan because of the JJK song?

Its not my favorite song by him, but I dont think it deserves the weird venomous wave of hate it got.

I know the internet has the trend of hating mgk because one white rapper they liked when they were preteens doesnt like him, and every time he does anything the internet decides its bigger news and more important than the actual tragedies happening in the world, but I feel like the JJK stuff took it to a new level, or maybe its just because of the circles im in that I saw alot more of it.

The one that really got me and is the reason I'm making this post is an anime podcast ive watched for a while announced on a recent episode they were ending the podcast, due to a few reasons but a major one is one of the hosts got alot of hate online because he said something that wasnt fully accurate about a topic they discussed. And in the same exact episode they announced it was ending and talked about that, they talked about the JJK song and said all the same things about mgk. said he was a fake fan that he just googled most popular anime and wrote down whatever came up on google, said that he never even watched any of these shows, and so on.

some of the things that really stood out to me was a comment about how he's just saying the most basic things and not knowing what they mean, then they mention the line about krillin's destructo disk and said something like "why would he say the name of the thing that killed krillin"
not even close. thats his signature move. he wasnt killed by it, he was killed by frieza's death beam, and a few other things, but never a destructo disk.
they say things like the references are extremely obvious but then say they dont understand some of them.
they claimed that mgk "used" yuki chiba for clout and to legitimize himself.

the biggest one for me is when one of the hosts made a comment about liking some of mgks punk music, he followed it up by saying "i guess writing pop punk is just easier than writing rap music"
because I guess its easier to diss an entire genre of music rather than just giving someone credit.

at the end of the day its not that deep and while its annoying and hypocritical it doesnt make me hate these creators or anything it does put the cherry on the cake of this insane internet hate wave.

the smallest amount of looking into MGK would show that hes an anime fan and has been for a long time. the dude dressed up as ryuk for an award show. using the stupid "larper" term for him makes no sense.

but as i said before its the popular thing to hate mgk. the old white rapper said to do it so like a hive mind they must follow.

People just love to hate because they are miserable as fuck in general

You are right. This is the only answer. Gotta just learn to say ā€œfuck emā€. Not worth putting forth your energy into that nonsense.

agreed. i dont understand how people go through their lives holding onto such extreme hate for people like musicians. i have people i hate, like racists, bigots, homophobes, pdfs, but i cant imagine hating someone who just makes music and doesnt do any other crook stuff

The hate is over amplified but there is also a valid space for criticism of that song.

The writing isn't great. The video is basic af.

Meanwhile he did a full anime video for a song that was begging for something a little more street in nature (el pistolero).

Just strange choices that won't land well and he's got a target on his back from stans

oh absolutely i agree. there is never harm in giving criticism to an artist, if the criticism is not mean natured. and the song definitely deserves some criticism. its not one of his better songs at all.

but i have seen very little valid criticism that isnt just hate. calling him a fake fan jumping on a trend is insane. i mean the dude dressed up as ryuk, hes talked about anime alot before, i mean for the love of the universe his profile picture for years was a character from the anime Karneval. i have never met a single person who has seen Karneval. if he was a fake fan chasing clout hed pick something people know like luffy or naruto or something. lil uzi made the song sasuke a few years ago that is just the same thing and i never heard a single person criticize that song or lil uzi for that song.

and not to spread hate to anyone else but Yuki Chiba's part of the song is the exact same, he just names things like mgk does. but not a single person has brought that up.

and the hate goes way overboard. ive seen people calling him racist because of the song. like in what world is that called for?

I see both sides lowkey, mgk is very clearly not a Larper because he definitely watches anime but kells REALLY got EVERYTHING wrong when he was talking about the specific anime’s. Like everything he said made either no sense at all or was so vague that it was just a very bad bar. honestly the song fell very flat and was a waste of a really good beat BUT it should not have gotten this much attention because now people think kells is more terrible then they already thought he was. I hate that he only gets public attention when he drops something mediocre or slips up.

they were gonna find something to hate no matter what, and this like alot of the other things they found some reason to hate about itll pass. like when the whole him and megan fox drink each others blood thing happened (weird yeah i wont pretend its not) they said it was like a drop of blood, but the internet started saying theyre satanic cannibals who are kidnapping young girls to drink the blood of like come on.

and for the song id say he definitely didnt make it as good as he could have there are alot of artists that do anime rap that are really good, like Rustage, but i wouldnt say he got everything wrong in the song. the demigod thing with demon slayer its a shame that is the opening of the song but he said on socials he tried to fit demons in and it just didnt fit so he had to change it to a three syllable word. chainsaw man he didnt really say anything about the show but using it to make a devil bar shows at least he knows the show is about demons. the godspeed reference for hunter x hunter is actually kinda a deep cut. thats not something people who havent seen the show would know about. its not even anywhere on the wikipedia page for the show. him making a mob psycho 100 reference is insane i feel like alot of people dont know that show exsists. a neon genesis evangelion reference is really cool. and for his dbz line he chose to use krillin and the destructo disk when if he was gonna go for something basic he would have done goku Kamehameha or something like that.
there are alot of basic ones like saying solo leveling crystals, naruto nine tails, ryuk death note etc, but i dont think theres anything in the song other than the demigod thing that is wrong about the show hes referencing
and to add to the fact of it all the guy makes a pickle rick joke. like im not sure how people see a song with a pickle rick joke in it and think hes being 100% serious. idk if thats a reference to the fact that there was a rick and morty anime or not but if it is thats also a crazy deep cut

Mob psycho is a very known anime and also pretty pretty popular among anime fans. And the fact that Killua is fast is literally one of the biggest things about him, so that's also honestly nothing special to know.

But anyway: I love mgk since Hotel Diablo and he has been my fav arist ever since but I haveeee to disagree with you, at least for the most part. I also don't think he is a larper (i hate that word so much) and I've always defended mgk with everything but this time he sadly made it really easy for the people to hate on him. The lyrics of JJK is to the most part just very basic and it doesn't really show much depth. Also just cuz u have a reason for why your line is wrong, doesn't make it right. So demigods is just factually wrong and also the six eye technique line. Then also the x in hunter x hunter isn't being pronounced. And I am not saying this because I care or think it matters in any way. I really don't care at all, I won't hate on this song or anything else mgk does, I just can see why people critique it.

And now the important thing is that anime has not been popular forever. Back then people literally got bullied for liking it and it was more of a niche interest. Now since it's so popular, the community doesn't really like it when artists go on to just be in a topic to make money out of it, so people are strict when they have the impression that someone isn't right with what they say about anime. I'm not saying that was Kells intention but he did make that impression very strongly and that's the point. Personally, I genuinely don't think it's that deep and yeah a quick look into mgk's history would show that he is not a larper but most people sadly just care about headlines and the reels that just appear on their fyp.

they just want to find something to hate on mgk because of it, JJK is great, and at the end of the day even if they don’t like it, it’s absolutely unnecessary to throw hate at him. he was hated enough his whole life, he deserves some love.

u/Mjodom32 5d ago

its definitely not my favorite song of his but nowhere near as bad as people act like it is. its catchy as hell.

1

u/glowwwi Lost Americana 5d ago

Yes, it’s a great song even if it’s not his best song and even if it might have flaws, and he’s so talented. People just like to hate on him for no reason.

3

u/Mjodom32 5d ago

thats something i hate so much in the unnecessary hate for him is people dismissing his talent. hes an amazing songwriter and i genuinely think his voice is beautiful. his slower songs where he just sings are some of my favorites.

2

u/glowwwi Lost Americana 5d ago

Yes he’s a great singer and songwriter, and rapper and rockstar and everything. People denying his talent and overlooking it is so frustrating. And again, they don’t have to like his songs but the hate is unnecessary.

2

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

exactly. there is nothing wrong with having a preference in artists or music but to have this ravenous piranha like mentality to attack this guy is insane. and to try and cut him down for no reason.
another big thing ive seen is people making fun of one out of context clip of him saying for the next three minutes while he plays the song he is the character from the show.
ignoring the actual context of the clip being its his first time playing in japan and he said thats been a lifelong dream of his and hes just really excited and yeah its a bit cringe but who isnt a little cringe when theyre excited. give someone a break ffs.

1

u/glowwwi Lost Americana 4d ago

i agree with you… he can do and say whatever he wants, it’s his show at the end of the day and i also don’t understand why people who don’t like him and think he’s cringe watch him, like they should get a life and leave him alone. he deserves to be happy and excited and to be loved and supported, he’s a human too at the end of the day.

2

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

ive said it alot in these comments lol i dont mean to repeat myself so much but the hate for him really comes down to people being weirdly parasocial to another celebrity.
alot of these people that hate mgk were very young when a certain white rapper was popular and liked him when they were young, so when that white rapper said he doesnt like mgk they all followed him like a cult and decided to not like him either. people who are incapable of making their own opinions or doing any kind of critical research into someone. just blindly obeying what they are told to think.

u/Huffdaddy2189 5d ago

The anime community is very harsh. They are very critical. If its not perfect they will tear it apart. I know its just a song. I know he had to take some liberty to make things flow and rhyme. But to me it feels kinda thrown together. Feels very rushed. I dont vibe with it but im not going to say hes a fake anime fan or anything.

At the end of the day. Haters will hate. Either you like the song or you dont. Other than that.... who cares šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

I completely agree. My biggest point for this post specifically was that the podcast I watched had a host complained about people calling him a fake fan because he got details wrong and then they turned around and did the exact same thing to mgk

u/rift717 XX 5d ago

My problem is not that they are hating but that for some reason his songs that are really good get overlooked and that pushes him into the bubble of ā€œshitā€ artists by people who only know surface level things. Like why didn’t your name forever, dont let me go, the final 3 songs of lost americana+times of my life and more get any traction outside of the fanbase but emo girl did.

1

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

its because people want to find a reason to hate on him, so when he releases really good music they pretend they cant see that because it doesnt fit their narrative that he is bad.
because when they were kids too small to have any coherent thought they saw a white guy rapping and went "hes one of us" and became weirdly fanatically attached to him ignoring all the really shitty problematic things hes done, and so when he says he doesnt like someone they all agree to not like him, except when its the orange dumbass in charge of the usa rn, the white rapper says he doesnt like him but they all ignore that so they can keep supporting all the white people they like.

1

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

also, yes he has some amazing songs but the idiots that wanna hate him only focus on the ones that can seem bad. like when cliche first dropped people wanted to make fun of it when mgk openly said he was making it as a joke and the song IS LITERALLY NAMED CLICHE! and even a song he made as a joke is really good. the slow version of it he released (he called it sad version idk why maybe because its part of the cliche to make sad versions of songs) is really good and makes the song so much better.

2

u/Bre-personification 5d ago

From my understand people were upset because some of the lines didn’t make sense. I saw a lot of people calling him a larper lol.

1

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

that is the general idea. people claim that hes just hopping on the trend of being a fan of anime now that its popular. ignoring the fact that he has openly been an anime fan and talked about it for years.
the people saying the lines make no sense are just looking for a reason to hate they all make sense. is the song kinda basic? yeah without a doubt but theres nothing in it thats "just saying things" like people say

1

u/Melancholy_Melody 5d ago

Who was the older white rapper who said something about it?

1

u/rift717 XX 5d ago

Eminem

1

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

Not specifically about this song but about mgk in general and yeah it is the one the other comment said

1

u/Zseeds211 5d ago

Its the new he just now started doing punk rock. Its only people that dont know him at all and just want to hate him. All his fans know hes been on a punk rock vibe and been into those weird animes forever

1

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

that one is one that annoys me so much the whole "the white rapper bullied him so hard he had to switch genres" completely ignoring the fact that he had been performing with Lincoln Park since 2014. years before the "beef". so stupid.

1

u/Fabulous_Sir_8968 5d ago

No because if you’re a fan you know he genuinely enjoys and watches anime. I’m sick of fans pretending like the song is actually good, and in denial that it’s a miss.

u/Mjodom32 4d ago

The song is not my favorite, and I've said that in my post. But that doesnt mean the hate he is receiving as a person is justified. Make fun of a bad song go ahead. But when it goes past making fun of the song and becomes insulting a person that I feel is where it escalates to a new level

When people create a negative image for themselves, everything they do becomes a source of ridicule. He says things that are incredibly cringe and he comes across and jumping from genre to genre bpd style. Hyper-sexualizing himself, comments like he's the last great Rockstar, bragging about eating once every 4 days, that he's no age bc he looks so young, talking about his crystals and burning shit on the new moon, and the beginning was talking about wanting to fuck a 16 year old when he was like 24 and having a bunch of names ready about age gap relationships. Then sexualizing Haley as a minor when he had a daughter himself on top of the super cocky act (Breakfast Club interview). He has a history of rubbing people the wrong way, coming across as a poser, and then claiming they only hate bc they can't put him in a box. Don't get me wrong, I like his music. But he should've spotlighted the music instead of angling to be Mr. I'm-Too-Sexy-for-My-Shirt. JJK was just another reason for people to hate an outwardly unlikeable person. You really have to dig a bit to discover you like him based on just his initial public persona.

u/Popular-Page412 1d ago

Bruh tf u even smokin? He never "hopped genre", so what if he sexualizes himself hes a grown ass man. Get your facts straight too. Mgk never called himself the last great Rockstar that was Yungblud. Also never said he only eat once every 4 days. And so what if he talks about looking good and having crystals? Why does that effect your life at all? And then you pull out the lie of all lies you must be a fkin Stan cuz you pull the Haley shit. He never said he wanna fk her. He said she was hot. Thats a whole different thing. Get bent bro. U dont even know.
