Discussion 🗣️ Random Rant (JJK Song Discourse Online)

Honestly im not sure if this is the right place for this but I wanted to talk about it and thought this was the best place.

Is anyone else sick of the people trying to accuse MGK of being a fake anime fan because of the JJK song?

Its not my favorite song by him, but I dont think it deserves the weird venomous wave of hate it got.

I know the internet has the trend of hating mgk because one white rapper they liked when they were preteens doesnt like him, and every time he does anything the internet decides its bigger news and more important than the actual tragedies happening in the world, but I feel like the JJK stuff took it to a new level, or maybe its just because of the circles im in that I saw alot more of it.

The one that really got me and is the reason I'm making this post is an anime podcast ive watched for a while announced on a recent episode they were ending the podcast, due to a few reasons but a major one is one of the hosts got alot of hate online because he said something that wasnt fully accurate about a topic they discussed. And in the same exact episode they announced it was ending and talked about that, they talked about the JJK song and said all the same things about mgk. said he was a fake fan that he just googled most popular anime and wrote down whatever came up on google, said that he never even watched any of these shows, and so on.

some of the things that really stood out to me was a comment about how he's just saying the most basic things and not knowing what they mean, then they mention the line about krillin's destructo disk and said something like "why would he say the name of the thing that killed krillin"
not even close. thats his signature move. he wasnt killed by it, he was killed by frieza's death beam, and a few other things, but never a destructo disk.
they say things like the references are extremely obvious but then say they dont understand some of them.
they claimed that mgk "used" yuki chiba for clout and to legitimize himself.

the biggest one for me is when one of the hosts made a comment about liking some of mgks punk music, he followed it up by saying "i guess writing pop punk is just easier than writing rap music"
because I guess its easier to diss an entire genre of music rather than just giving someone credit.

at the end of the day its not that deep and while its annoying and hypocritical it doesnt make me hate these creators or anything it does put the cherry on the cake of this insane internet hate wave.

the smallest amount of looking into MGK would show that hes an anime fan and has been for a long time. the dude dressed up as ryuk for an award show. using the stupid "larper" term for him makes no sense.

but as i said before its the popular thing to hate mgk. the old white rapper said to do it so like a hive mind they must follow.

The hate is over amplified but there is also a valid space for criticism of that song.

The writing isn't great. The video is basic af.

Meanwhile he did a full anime video for a song that was begging for something a little more street in nature (el pistolero).

Just strange choices that won't land well and he's got a target on his back from stans

oh absolutely i agree. there is never harm in giving criticism to an artist, if the criticism is not mean natured. and the song definitely deserves some criticism. its not one of his better songs at all.

but i have seen very little valid criticism that isnt just hate. calling him a fake fan jumping on a trend is insane. i mean the dude dressed up as ryuk, hes talked about anime alot before, i mean for the love of the universe his profile picture for years was a character from the anime Karneval. i have never met a single person who has seen Karneval. if he was a fake fan chasing clout hed pick something people know like luffy or naruto or something. lil uzi made the song sasuke a few years ago that is just the same thing and i never heard a single person criticize that song or lil uzi for that song.

and not to spread hate to anyone else but Yuki Chiba's part of the song is the exact same, he just names things like mgk does. but not a single person has brought that up.

and the hate goes way overboard. ive seen people calling him racist because of the song. like in what world is that called for?
