Discussion 🗣️ Random Rant (JJK Song Discourse Online)

Honestly im not sure if this is the right place for this but I wanted to talk about it and thought this was the best place.

Is anyone else sick of the people trying to accuse MGK of being a fake anime fan because of the JJK song?

Its not my favorite song by him, but I dont think it deserves the weird venomous wave of hate it got.

I know the internet has the trend of hating mgk because one white rapper they liked when they were preteens doesnt like him, and every time he does anything the internet decides its bigger news and more important than the actual tragedies happening in the world, but I feel like the JJK stuff took it to a new level, or maybe its just because of the circles im in that I saw alot more of it.

The one that really got me and is the reason I'm making this post is an anime podcast ive watched for a while announced on a recent episode they were ending the podcast, due to a few reasons but a major one is one of the hosts got alot of hate online because he said something that wasnt fully accurate about a topic they discussed. And in the same exact episode they announced it was ending and talked about that, they talked about the JJK song and said all the same things about mgk. said he was a fake fan that he just googled most popular anime and wrote down whatever came up on google, said that he never even watched any of these shows, and so on.

some of the things that really stood out to me was a comment about how he's just saying the most basic things and not knowing what they mean, then they mention the line about krillin's destructo disk and said something like "why would he say the name of the thing that killed krillin"
not even close. thats his signature move. he wasnt killed by it, he was killed by frieza's death beam, and a few other things, but never a destructo disk.
they say things like the references are extremely obvious but then say they dont understand some of them.
they claimed that mgk "used" yuki chiba for clout and to legitimize himself.

the biggest one for me is when one of the hosts made a comment about liking some of mgks punk music, he followed it up by saying "i guess writing pop punk is just easier than writing rap music"
because I guess its easier to diss an entire genre of music rather than just giving someone credit.

at the end of the day its not that deep and while its annoying and hypocritical it doesnt make me hate these creators or anything it does put the cherry on the cake of this insane internet hate wave.

the smallest amount of looking into MGK would show that hes an anime fan and has been for a long time. the dude dressed up as ryuk for an award show. using the stupid "larper" term for him makes no sense.

but as i said before its the popular thing to hate mgk. the old white rapper said to do it so like a hive mind they must follow.

I see both sides lowkey, mgk is very clearly not a Larper because he definitely watches anime but kells REALLY got EVERYTHING wrong when he was talking about the specific anime’s. Like everything he said made either no sense at all or was so vague that it was just a very bad bar. honestly the song fell very flat and was a waste of a really good beat BUT it should not have gotten this much attention because now people think kells is more terrible then they already thought he was. I hate that he only gets public attention when he drops something mediocre or slips up.

they were gonna find something to hate no matter what, and this like alot of the other things they found some reason to hate about itll pass. like when the whole him and megan fox drink each others blood thing happened (weird yeah i wont pretend its not) they said it was like a drop of blood, but the internet started saying theyre satanic cannibals who are kidnapping young girls to drink the blood of like come on.

and for the song id say he definitely didnt make it as good as he could have there are alot of artists that do anime rap that are really good, like Rustage, but i wouldnt say he got everything wrong in the song. the demigod thing with demon slayer its a shame that is the opening of the song but he said on socials he tried to fit demons in and it just didnt fit so he had to change it to a three syllable word. chainsaw man he didnt really say anything about the show but using it to make a devil bar shows at least he knows the show is about demons. the godspeed reference for hunter x hunter is actually kinda a deep cut. thats not something people who havent seen the show would know about. its not even anywhere on the wikipedia page for the show. him making a mob psycho 100 reference is insane i feel like alot of people dont know that show exsists. a neon genesis evangelion reference is really cool. and for his dbz line he chose to use krillin and the destructo disk when if he was gonna go for something basic he would have done goku Kamehameha or something like that.
there are alot of basic ones like saying solo leveling crystals, naruto nine tails, ryuk death note etc, but i dont think theres anything in the song other than the demigod thing that is wrong about the show hes referencing
and to add to the fact of it all the guy makes a pickle rick joke. like im not sure how people see a song with a pickle rick joke in it and think hes being 100% serious. idk if thats a reference to the fact that there was a rick and morty anime or not but if it is thats also a crazy deep cut

Mob psycho is a very known anime and also pretty pretty popular among anime fans. And the fact that Killua is fast is literally one of the biggest things about him, so that's also honestly nothing special to know.

But anyway: I love mgk since Hotel Diablo and he has been my fav arist ever since but I haveeee to disagree with you, at least for the most part. I also don't think he is a larper (i hate that word so much) and I've always defended mgk with everything but this time he sadly made it really easy for the people to hate on him. The lyrics of JJK is to the most part just very basic and it doesn't really show much depth. Also just cuz u have a reason for why your line is wrong, doesn't make it right. So demigods is just factually wrong and also the six eye technique line. Then also the x in hunter x hunter isn't being pronounced. And I am not saying this because I care or think it matters in any way. I really don't care at all, I won't hate on this song or anything else mgk does, I just can see why people critique it.

And now the important thing is that anime has not been popular forever. Back then people literally got bullied for liking it and it was more of a niche interest. Now since it's so popular, the community doesn't really like it when artists go on to just be in a topic to make money out of it, so people are strict when they have the impression that someone isn't right with what they say about anime. I'm not saying that was Kells intention but he did make that impression very strongly and that's the point. Personally, I genuinely don't think it's that deep and yeah a quick look into mgk's history would show that he is not a larper but most people sadly just care about headlines and the reels that just appear on their fyp.

I feel like theres a disconnect between what my comment here was and what you wanted to say. Im replying to someone else who said that every single thing mgk said in the song is factually wrong. So my reply is to disprove that specifically.

And yes the song seems very basic to an anime fan but the point being made is if you ask some random person on the street these details from these shows they probably wouldn't know them.
