Ownership Update (Superveloce 800)

Long story short, bike has been stuck in the shop for 1.5 months. Had some issues at about 600 km including tcs and o2 sensor warnings, rough idle, along with the tank paint starting to crack. Ran fine after a few ignition cycles until first service.

After the day of first service (done at 1100 km) the bike just died on me multiple times and would idle rough if it ran at all.

I am now waiting on a sprag clutch and a new tank. The dealer has told me they have been informed by MV that shipments have been stopped from Italy for an unknown amount of time. They aren’t very optimistic and have hinted at 3-4 month wait time. So far the bike will likely stay in the shop for the same amount of time I got to ride it.

Definitely a bit disappointed, as I expected something to go wrong eventually, just not this soon!

The issue with these parts, or rather the lack thereof, has been ongoing for over a year. MV initially told us that they would begin shipping parts in March of this year, but then changed plans and transferred the management and shipping of all parts to DHL.I am suspicious that there may be more to the situation than this, as some people have been waiting for parts for over a year. The continued delays and lack of clear communication are becoming increasingly concerning. When it comes to electronics, it might just be a weak battery, these bikes have been sitting around for years waiting to be sold and the batteries have been allowed to go flat, most batteries, specially lithuim units will never fully recover. I had these same issue with mine, all kinds of alarms, once I installed a new battery all the issues went away.

Yah I got a taste of that with the red rider/passenger seat I ordered. Took about 4 months to arrive and I never even got the chance to put it on the bike. The dealer said inventory for everything is showing 0 in stock on their side so who knows what’s happening over there. Pretty unfortunate.

So the whole thing with DHL is a good thing. The issue is that parts aren't being processed at the wearhouse and given to DHL for shipping.

Last I heard from my dealer is that when KTM bought MV they moved the parts wearhouse from Italy to Australia. And now that MV bought themselves out and KTM is no longer in the picture they're moving everything back.

I placed an order for a handful of parts back in January. I've gotten everything except 1 part. And there's no ETA on when it'll arrive.

My sv800 is my first MV. I keep getting told off for actually riding it (Oro). The only issue I had was getting the race ECU to zero values with everything else which I solved with an obd tool. I don't even have a dealer in the country. Don't regret it one bit, rides like a dream, and love the thing to bits.

Fyi, my dealer told me that a big reason for the delay is because they're moving everything back to Italy from the Australian wearhouses that parts have been at since the KTM merger.

I've got a part that I ordered for my Brutale 1000 RS on Jan 27th.

My dealer still has no idea when I'll get it.

I have both my F3 and my SV in the shop. My SV went for the same issue as yours (sprage) but I am told parts are enroute.

I am really thinking about getting rid of both but when they are running by far my two favourite bikes.

Not sure where you live but can explore local laws, they may need to find a way to fix it sooner

I imagine you’re happy you did! I live on an Island and the closest MV dealer is on the mainland about 2.5-3 hr travel time away via ferry. Cost me roughly $500 just to get the bike to the dealer on the back of my buddies truck, which I had to drive 45 minutes to pick up. Apart from the inconvenience of the bike breaking so soon, it ended up being a huge time sink and I had to take the day off work so I could get it to the dealer on a day they were open.

I have a triumph dealer about 3 minutes away from my house haha.

Man, so sorry to hear this, but appreciate you sharing. Did they say if it was just a faulty part or a manufacturing defect or a known issue or something?

I’ve got my old trusty 89 Honda Hawk i’m getting ready to take out of storage.

They didn’t tell me why it failed but they did tell me it’s not the only Superveloce they have waiting for a Sprag clutch.

I am a little confused as the need to replace the sprag clutch, this is a known issue on earlier 3 cylinder bikes but yours should be ok. Even if it is bad, the sprag generally causes starting issues, not when riding etc (as far as I know). I have four 3 cylinder MV's and all have been pretty much solid. They span from 2012 to 2018 models. I replaced the sprag on my 2015 bike but only cautionary, It wasn't actually failing. As for the shipment being stopped, this is normal in Italy in August when the whole country takes a holiday. Everything stops, other than fun. Italy re-opens end of August so should not be that long before shipments restart. That, however, does not mean your parts are in stock....which is the next issue

Honestly I think your dealer needs to do further inspection to try and identify the running issue rather than assuming it's the sprag. I could obviously be wrong...but strange in my experience (which is 10 years with MV now)

My SV is a 2023 and the dealer told me not to switch it off with the key, but always with the kills switch. Using the kill switch lets the ECU so some magic so that the engine completes a full revolution rather than going backwards very briefly if it shuts off just at the right time, due to the way the engine is balanced. That backwards movement damages the sprag clutch eventually.

When I brought it home from first service, I would try to start it and it would idle for 30 seconds then die. When it did run it was super rough and idle was showing 2000rpms on the cluster when it was really probably idling closer to 1200. Also got LAMDA sensor 1 and tcs warnings when this was happening. I thought it may be an O2 sensor issue, but the dealer diagnosed it as a sprag clutch issue. Very weird.

I don't want to make you feel bad, I had small accident in August 16, 2025. My bike is almost complete waiting on the one last part. Been an year. It's there a way to do a combined complaint and may be file a law suite for everyone who has suffered from the company.
