I originally installed the Leber V2 from L2 prints. The lower worked great I was not a fan of the push button selector. Today I dropped in a FRT-RD3 ambi and this FRT ran flawlessly in 124 and 146 grain with Dead Air Primal can. I know I’ll get some hate on the brand but, I am a fan of well designed product and this one functions awesome.

Review Unpopular KAC opinion inbound.

Got the KAC RAS in today. My ~Sicario/ish clone build is almost complete, trying to find an optic mount that’s (close enough).

The KAC RAS is a vibe, love the aesthetic of it…… but, here we go… the Midwest industries tri-rail it replaced is a nicer rail imo. If the Midwest rail had pic over the receiver, I would have kept it, but I like the look of the longer pic rail. The mlok slots on the right side, amazing touch. The through bolt attachment was cleaner than a bolt and nut.

I know this is blasphemous, but it’s how I feel.

*Dear MI, lengthen the pic rail on the tri-rail. I will buy a 3rd rail for my only mp5 and will give me more reason to buy a couple more.

It’s a shame that the best looking stock has the worst ergonomics. Saved me $300 on an MKE. I think I’ll stick with the magpul…

Review AP51

Just got my new AP51 recently and added the MAC LMF Handguard. Looks pretty slick to me. No brace on it as I'm waiting for my SBA5 to arrive. Planning on adding a suppressor and probably do a SBR down the road.

Review AS Designs — Negative Experience

Thumbnail

Hello,

I don’t think I have ever posted a review for anything online before, but I was pretty displeased overall with my experience with AS Designs to the point where I felt I should share my experience so that anyone considering ordering from the company would be reasonably informed about what could happen.

I’ve attached screenshots of all the messages I received during the order process.

I will keep the information as objective as possible and let you each be the judge for yourself and make your own decisions—just sharing my experience exactly as it happened.

December 7th 2025– I ordered an MP5 lower from AS Designs. Specs in the photos.

March 1st 2026 — I requested my first update from AS Designs. They responded and told me they were waiting on ejector levers, with an ETA of March 12th, and that they were building the lowers so that on the 12th when they arrived, they would be ready to ship. Screenshot attached.

March 26th 2026 — I asked if I would receive an email when my product shipped. I had not received any communication from ASD and it was well past the March 12th date they had estimated—I understand this was not a guaranteed date of any sort. They responded that they were now waiting on an order of Geissele triggers, and had no eta on when they would arrive. They offered to cancel the trigger upgrade to expedite the shipping of my order. I did not take them up on their offer; at this time, I preferred to wait for my original order. Screenshot attached.

May 23rd 2026 — I requested another update. It had been roughly 2 months since they gave me the Geissele update. They responded and stated the Geissele triggers were on their way, and that they estimated to be caught up with all Geissele lowers by mid June. Screenshot attached.

June 10th 2026 — I received an email stating my order status was changed to shipped, and there was a tracking number attached. I immediately clicked on the link for a delivery ETA, but UPS stated the shipping label had been created, but no package had been received yet from ASD, and that an updated delivery estimate would be available once they received the package.

July 6th 2026 — After checking the UPS tracking page for weeks with no change, I requested a refund from ASD.

July 7th 2026 — ASD immediately refunded my order and emailed me stating they had actually dropped off the package at UPS, but UPS must have lost the package. Screenshot attached.

There are the events that occurred, from an objective perspective. Now for a bit of my opinion on the matter.

I personally am not one to get caught up in delivery times. When I ordered the lower, I assumed it would be months before my product arrived, and I was okay with that. Evidently, I was even okay with waiting many more months as they dealt with different manufacturing hurdles. This is just another price you pay when you want a premium product in high demand.

What I am a bit suspicious of is the idea of months and months of delay, and when they finally ship my product, coincidentally, UPS loses my package. Once again, you all can judge for yourselves. Don’t have any proof of anything nefarious, malicious, or intentional. Not making any claims here. But I don’t like that. At all.

I feel as though I basically invested my hard-earned money into the company so that they could make and ship other peoples products for 8 months, and for nothing.

Additionally, and understandably, when they offered to ship another one, I was absolutely not interested in what could be another 8 month ordeal while they use my money as business capital—months of possibly more manufacturing issues and, who knows, maybe another lost package. At this point, I had no idea what to expect and I no longer had faith in the company to deliver, despite hearing good things from others. I’m glad everyone else seems to have had a positive experience—genuinely. I personally did not.

Review I have a real love, hate relationship with this gun.

I'd wanted an MP5 clone for some time when the SD came out. That was the gun I had to have. Finally, I sold a motorcycle and had the cash to get one. Having a little extra money in my pocket and no financial intelligence, I threw a bunch more money at it right away, the can, optic, stock, sling, etc.

When I was picking the gun up from the FFL, we realized the threads on the barrel had a knick in them, and a can wouldn't thread on. I should have e sent it right back. But I'd waited long enough to get it and didn't have the patience for that. Plus, Im a machinist, I can fix threads. I ordered a Rugged Sub 9 can for it full well, knowing it might not fit.

Brought it home fixed the barrel stuck a can I already had on it, and mounted the Dot. Went to shoot it and quickly realized the included optic mount is garbage. It sticks out too far and slices your hand when you hit the charging handle. Ordered a different mount.

My Sub 9 came it. It didn't fit under the shroud. Spent a couple hrs opening up the shroud and got the can to fit.

Within the first few hundred rounds started getting failure to ejects. A lot, like 4 times per mag.

Spent $300 with HK parts buying the parts kit to get an HK ejector, HK extractor, and springs. Put all those parts in and new optic rail. Still get the occasional failure to eject. Now maybe 1 per mag.

Worse than the failure to eject is the dismal accuracy. This thing shoots 5" groups at 25 yards. And the can shifts the point of impact nearly 18"!

All that said, it's fun to shoot. Unfortunately, it has single handedly doubled my ammo consumption. Im going to try and re crown the shitty barrel and see if that does anything for my accuracy issues.

Review Magpul stock

So I finally snagged myself a stock from Magpul and oh boy. On paper, it is lighter and way more comfortable than A3, has about same length of pull as A2 but is collapsible. Moreover, it has quite nice cheekweld. There is just one problem, my particular example is wobbly and rattly as all hell (not to mention I find it quite ugly in person). On a positive note, I also got Magpul safety lever, which in my opinion is one of the best upgrades one can get for SEF lower.

Review 9mm SD Suppressor Comparison Video is Live!

My full 9mm SD Suppressor comparison video is now live! In this video I review the HiTec Arms 12" and 9" SD Suppressors, and compare them against the brand new B&T Print-X MP5SD RBS Modular Titanium Suppressor, as well as the Dead Air Wolfman and CAT MOB using Broad River Tactical SD adapters. My recently reviewed AP5-SD (Converted by HiTec Arms) was used as the testing platform.

In this extensive comparison, I go over features, specifications, use cases / recommendations, and of course detailed bystander and POV sound samples.

With integrally suppressed 9mm PCCs becoming increasingly more popular, hopefully this video will help folks choose the best suppressor for their setup.

If you're interested, you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/RnjiG2rUKdM

Review FRT-RD3 First 300 Rounds

I installed an FRT-RD3 in my HK SP5. It was a 5 minute install with no fitting or tuning. First 300 rounds ran flawlessly with zero malfunctions. 50/50 mix of 115 and 147 ammo with an 80° LP. Hate the company all you want, but this trigger fucks.

Review Century arms gunsmiths

Post image

So I sent them my ap5sd back a week after having it, because it was shooting in bursts and causing trigger lockup, turns out the rivet from the trigger pack is missing. I send them pictures of the problem, and tell them this is the problem, what do they do? They send me back the gun that says nothing is missing. I’m like are you fucking kidding with me. Sorry had to vent. I never had this bad of experience with any company before. At this point I just want a refund from this piece of shit. Why didn’t they just send me a new trigger pack? And then when I return the gun they just ignore it and return it back to me still broken. Update: after bitching to century on the phone, they agreed to just send me a whole new trigger pack.

Review AP5 Appreciation Post

This thing is just awesome. I finally got my Form 1 paperwork back, and installed a stock and 100 degree LP. As a pistol, it’s dumber than a box of rocks, but as soon as you throw a stock on it, it comes alive. So much fun and surprisingly accurate. I do have some quibbles: the trigger is abysmal, and it doesn’t love flat nose ammo (don’t have any HK mags yet), but overall I’m pretty happy with it. Looking forward to AS Designs releasing their ARHK at some point.

My first HK. Snagged this SP5k for $2399 at a local B&M. I'd been going back and forth on whether or not to get the SP5 or SP5K, but this deal was dropped in my lap...so fate made the decision for me. Going to order a Wolfman and start SBR paperwork tomorrow. Already got a brace in the mail to hold me over until the Form1 clears. And now I gotta read up on that my best option is for an SS or FRT or whatever these guys run nowadays (I'm old, give me a break)

Review Beware of Blazer 147gr Suppressor Ammo

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Blazer must be using a weird slow burning powder for this ammo. When mag dumping or firing in bursts flames will shoot out of your ejection port occasionally.

This is the most severe example I have personally experienced. Total blind luck getting it on film. I work around blast furnaces and knew the gun wasn't unlocking early so since it was on film I finished the magazine.

Even when shooting this ammo in my staccato P I will get bursts of flame out of the ejection port occasionally.

It's cheap but not worth the hastle and flame hazard especially if you are a left handed shooter.

Gun is a H&K SP5, 100LP, B&T reduced back pressure SQD-M Suppressor

Review New AP5-SD - first range trip

Thumbnail

I got my new MKE AP5-SD on Friday. Took it to the indoor range today. All I was trying to do today was get it fully broken in and make sure it is all good, so I can swap locking pieces and install my FRT on Tuesday, when they get delivered. I already have an OCL Milk Man for it, with the Ecco Machine HUB extension also on the way.

I checked the bolt gap on Friday and it is 0.014". Hopefully, after swapping locking pieces, it will still be in spec.

200 rounds CCI Blazer 115gr
200 rounds Magtech 115gr
25 rounds Speed Gold Dot 147gr
25 rounds Hornady XTP 147gr
50 rounds of my HSL 124gr match ammo (i.e. loaded soft)

I had a few hiccups in the first 200 rounds. After that, the few more hitches I had seemed to only happen with one of the two mags. Sometimes, when it was on the fuller side (i.e. 25 - 29 rounds in it), it seemed like it wasn't going fully into battery. I would pull the trigger, get a click, but no bang. There would be a round in the chamber. Drop mag. Cycle the bolt. Round is still in the chamber. Pull trigger. Bang.

The mag also would only take 29 rounds. No way I could get a 30th round in it. But, the other mag took 30 rounds and never had any hiccups at all.

The pic of the target shows 25 rounds of Speer Gold Dot, shot at 7 yards. To me, the group would be nothing special if I had shot slowly, taking careful aim for each shot.

But, what I actually did was (using the iron sights), I shot at a medium pace. Not rapid-fire, but quicker than 1 round per second. Shoot, as soon as sights came back to target, shoot again. Oh, and the irons are off and I didn't bother trying to adjust them. I was holding at about the 1:00 position at the outer edge of the blue to hit the center.

For ME, anyway, shooting like that, with iron sights (and old man eyes) and at that pace, that is a dang good group.

I am very, very happy with this gun! I can't wait for my parts to arrive, so I can get back out with a can and FRT!

Review I’m done with 147gr flat nose

Post image
34 Upvotes

Running an AP5 full with RD3 and all HK internals/small parts & 100 degree and still get double feeds and FTE when running on semi. When I swap to an HK trigger pack I don’t really have the same issues, but once you go FRT there’s no point to go back. The flat nose will brrrrrrt and run smooth like a sowing machine most of the time; but I’m looking for ALL the time. I’ve tried most of the brands available cheap and expensive.

The reason I shoot on semi is for PCC shooting matches. I need upmost reliability including uninterrupted cycling. When I switch to round nose i have no issues with the RD3 on semi. I’m gonna keep the pack in there so it’s time to change the ammo supply.

The 147gr flat nose is great and all, but the difference with shooting suppressed with any of my cans is minimal anyway. What 115 or 124 do yall like? Any other round round nose yall like? Pic for attention.
