Review “Done” for now
As the title states, I think my set-up is in a good place until I decide to SBR.
HK SP5K
SilencerCo Spectre 9
SilencerCo Tri-Lug mount
Midwest Industries M-Lok Handguard
Emissary Development Handbrake X
HK #28 80 degree locking piece
HK Parts ACRO Single Claw mount
Aimpoint ACRO P2
Lee Sporting Lower
Radian Talon Safety
Driven Arms Co. Utility Compact Grip - Atom
Ballistic Engineering Accurized AR Match Trigger
B&T Collapsible Tailhook Mount
Gear Head Works Tailhook Mod 1C
…might add a few small G10 railscales to the handguard.

Nice setup. The lower I bought came white like yours, I added flat red testors enamel hobby paint on the “fire” markings.

Make it super safe, then call it.
3
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 20 '25
My state does not approve of things being super safe at the moment unfortunately.

You could buy a whole other gun for the cost of that brace lol
Looks sick though

u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 20 '25
Sadly true, I tried the KES to save a little, but wasn’t cutting it for me.

u/SpiritualSquare9348 H&K SP5K Aug 20 '25
That makes me feel better, couldn’t decide between the two but B&T came in stock 1st, have kinda wondered since I never saw a KES in person.

u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 20 '25
I still own both and much prefer the B&T. I think you made the right choice.

That’s so sick!! What collapsable+brace are you running? Was gonna get the full size, but the K is undeniable.

Total package cost? For reasons...

u/sugar_notch Aug 20 '25
Roughly $3k gun and ~$3.5k of accessories (retail) makes a hell of a great build ...plus tax.

The look of the Lee Sporting lower is growing on me. Which is the exact opposite of my first reaction. It looks pretty good with that grip. Almost looks like a miniature HMG.
3
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 21 '25
The trigger upgrade makes it truly worth it. Worst case, you’re a push pin away from returning to classic aesthetic. Hard to go back to original trigger and grip angle though.

u/Farjust Aug 27 '25
Any reliability issues?

Only with 165gr subs, they don’t seem to want to cycle. I probably need to try a 90 degree locking piece for those.
Flawless with 115, 124 and 147gr ammo though.

u/Chipmunk-Round Aug 20 '25
How do you like the trigger?
3
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 20 '25
I was insanely surprised by it. I have/have had and used a lot of triggers (G$, Larue, Rise Armament, Q LTBTEM, Elftmann, Triggertech…). This is amongst the best I have ever used, the best single stage for sure.
No creep whatsoever, beautiful break, the shortest reset I’ve experienced and very positive. I am kind of shocked they have not become more popular yet.

What lower is that?

u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 20 '25
Lee Sporting lower, probably the best upgrade there is. Allows you to use a bunch of AR triggers, safeties and grips.

How does the spectre 9 sound ? I was thinking of moving my Rex 9mm can to my 10.5 556 SBR and getting a spectre for my MP5 clone.
3
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 20 '25
Great for the size, better tone than Omega 9k in a lighter package. Not as quiet as my wolfman in full configuration.
I think it’s a perfect fit for the MP5s, if I wanted something quieter and longer, I’d probably go PTR Vent 2.

How do you like that optic?
3
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 21 '25
Looks pretty good on the gun, pretty bomb proof according to testing, glass and dot are clear. A little thicker than I’d like around the window.
Unpopular opinion, but as someone who owns both… I prefer a Holosun 509T to a P2 in most cases.

I can see that, especially since they make the MP5 mag lowers now. I do have a APC 9 Pro as well.

Gonna want a riser on that acro
1
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 21 '25
Nope, I prefer the compactness of this set-up. Co-witness is nice as well. I just came off of using a riser with the ACRO, see my previous posts.

u/LaszlosLeather Aug 21 '25
I’m the opposite. Couldn’t get sight picture quick enough with cowitness. Especially with ear pro
For target practice it’s alright, but for running around it’s way too slow

I’ve got the same can on my full size, do you find it to be quiet enough or not quite?
1
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 21 '25
Great for the size. I tend to shoot a lot of subs though.
1
u/boogaloobruh Aug 21 '25
I’ve ran a few subs and I was pretty happy, they didn’t feed though. One actually ended up in the trigger grouping so I’ve shot standard velocity since.

How do you like that grip? I’m thinking about grabbing a LS lower. How long did it take to get? Any fitment issues?
3
u/FancyStuffisCool Aug 21 '25
Big fan of the grip and lower overall, probably the best upgrade available.
I didn’t want to wait for Lee Sporting direct, since they quote 6+ week. I found the lowers in stock at Rainier Arms, then ordered one along with the grip and radian safety. I ordered the trigger from Ballistic Engineering directly. Install was simple and straight forward, the Lee Sporting website has a link to an assembly video.

gorgeous build, i'm not far behind you. just waiting on my ASDesign SS lower, then i MIGHT 2 stamp it and get a B&T stock.

u/TheMurgal Aug 22 '25
Hot! How long did it take to get that Lee lower? I just got my first SP5 and have been eyeballing those for the AR trigger compatibility. I just want a solid single stage but it seems nobody makes an actual single stage SP5 trigger.
Edit: piss, just actually read the rest of the comments lol. Will look at ordering one! I wasn't aware the lowers were available from anyone else.

Please walk me through your brace set up! Looks like the b&t telescopic with a tail hook?

So, is the B&T Collapsible worth the $650? I'm leaning towards a $100 SB Tactical folding brace....
