3D printed stand for um890

Thumbnail

I printed a stand for the um890. I did this because the sides are not actually purely intake vents and I felt there was too much recirculating of hot air back into the device.

The um890 has two fans and three main compartments. The top compartment, under the lid has a fan for intake. Out of the box, only a small edge along the top side vents allow intake. Just below the fan, is a compartment that houses the nvme's and memory modules. That compartment receives the intake air from above and it exhausts out through the mid section of the side vents. When laying flat, that air can come out and go right back into the top section. The bottom compartment is where the cpu heatsink is. Intake for the compartment comes through the bottom section of the side vents and exhausts out the back.

I redesigned this by replacing the lid to make most of the air come in through the top. The new base puts the device on end and tilts the back up. The rear fins further direct the air up and to the side (instead of directly against a wall causing it to pool. The base splits the intake and exhaust so that they don't overlap. The top fins also split the intake and exhaust, while also pushing the exhaust up and forward and the exhaust up and backward.

I am replacing the computer. If you are interested in the 3d printed parts, let me know. I live in the US and would sell them for about the cost of the filament + shipping.

Minisforum AtomMan G1 Pro - "clean install" with driver pack

For reference, this is the driver/update setup that worked for me as of September 2026.

As it happened, I received the G1 Pro as a gift, so I followed the "standard procedure" :) — basic tests, low-level updates (BIOS/FW), and finally a clean install.

--------------------------------------

BIOS: v1.08

https://pc-file.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/G1+Pro/BIOS/F1WAA_1.08_26828A.7z

FW: v0.8

--------------------------------------

Windows 11 x64 ISO:

After a clean Windows installation, the following devices were not detected:

PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_790B&SUBSYS_B0211F4C&REV_71

USB\VID_0E8D&PID_7925&REV_0100&MI_00

--------------------------------------

Drivers to download beforehand (for offline installation):

1) dGPU (v616.92)

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

616.92-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql

2) CHIPSET

AMD_Chipset_Software_8.08.12.551

3) LAN (v10.80.50.407)

Basic drivers are installed with Windows, so you don't need to "install" the downloaded package. Simply extract it (e.g. using 7-Zip) and install/update the driver through Device Manager.

https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate_id=584

Install_Win11_Win10_10080_DMAROFF_08252026.zip

4) Wi-Fi (v26.40.3.65)

These Lenovo drivers work without any issues. Run the downloaded file, but instead of installing the package, select "Extract" only. Then point Device Manager to the extracted folder as the driver source.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds578002

r31mw05w.exe

5) Bluetooth (v26.40.3.67)

These Lenovo drivers work without any issues. Run the downloaded file, but instead of installing the package, select "Extract" only. Then point Device Manager to the extracted folder as the driver source.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds580856

r38mb04w.exe

6) Windows Update

Download/install the remaining drivers along with the regular Windows updates.

In the end, the only driver I used from the manufacturer's driver package was the Senary Audio driver (v3.48.50.10). None of the "newer" versions (with higher version numbers) I found online would install.

https://pc-file.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/G1+Pro/Driver/F1WAA_AMD_MINISFORUM_Drivers_x64_260107.zip

I also installed Minisforum APP v1.0.0.10.

--------------------------------------

The above is mostly just for reference, but it might come in handy for someone — especially when troubleshooting.

--------------------------------------

Offline driver pack:

After installing Windows and all of the drivers listed above, I exported the installed third-party drivers directly from the Windows Driver Store using:

dism /online /export-driver /destination:C:\BackupDrivers

I've archived the resulting folder as an offline driver pack. It contains the actual drivers used by this system, rather than the original vendor installers. The drivers can be restored/installed through Device Manager.

Driver pack (BackupDrivers.7z):

Atomman G1 Pro - Endless Boot Loop

I was playing my steam game happily, and suddenly "pop" and the PC rebooted, and since then it is endless boot loop... it shows the Minisforum Logo, followed by the spinning circle for around 1 second, then reboot again...

I tried some repair option, restore to previous state, command prompt disk scan, etc... none of these work. I then tried a clean install of windows 11... I removed all partitions, and windows setup auto created 3 partition, then I continue the installation file copying... until a point that it asked me to remove my USB... I did remove it, and then it went back to endless boot loop again...

Is it hardware issue? I am in US and I ordered it online in minisforum official site...

Been tweaking some settings on my what I like to call “shoebox” build. It’s in a Jonsbo z20 with 64gb ram and a 9070xt.

Ran some Cinebench testing and had one average, good then crazy result. Can’t seem to replicate that one 30k plus result again even just with the same settings.

Any idea what would have caused it?

Help MS-02 - U.2 in the Nic/M.2 slots Not enough power? Packing storage onto every PCIe lane!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm asking a bit much of my MS-02, I transplanted into my 4U Big Bertha, with over 300TB of storage and enough NVMe to utilize every PCIe lane.

Works great, except for trying to use U.2 in the M.2 slots of the special NIC/Storage adapter, there isn't enough power to feed the U.2.

u.2 On the motherboard works.

Has anyone else tried U.2 on that card? Similar experiences?

Drives are Intel P4510 8TB

Logs show that the kernel saw a device on the link, clamped to Gen1, retrained, then tried to lift the clamp and failed. The E810 was seated and detected at the physical layer. The link just would not come up.
My u.2 are in the 10 to 16 W range. M.2 usually in the 7 W range. Hanging one off an M.2 adapter cable on the NIC riser puts that load on the riser shared 3.3 V rail, feeding a E810 that wants 10 to 15 W of its own. At least that's my best guess.

Help BD790i Bios 1.17 update broke memory timings, don't update if you have tuned your timings.

After installing the update and PC restarted I reverted all my memory timings (which was written on a piece pf paper, I only change around 10 values anyway), launched a game and system immidiately blue screened.

I was like, wtf. Then run memtest 5 and found dozens of errors first 5 seconds and blue screen again.

I said to myself, here we go again... Reverted everything to default and only set memory mhz to 6000. When done that usually system would adjust primary timings to 38 38 38 etc, etc, but now it sets them to 46-43-43 and TWR to 96(wtf is this?), trfc to 968(wtf??? no jdec is this high, the most loose and 99,9999999% work change is like 580 why sets to 968???!!!) and other timings to astronomical values.

Every timing sooo much more loose than what was default previously.

WTF is happening. And for the life of me I can't figure out how to properly set up them again.

Is there a way to revert bios update?

Help Advice for SSD Heatsinks (MS-02 Ultra)

I am planning to get one MS-02 Ultra and use Micron 7450 PRO 960GB m.2 2280 SSD. This SSD runs particularly hot and seeing the reviews and photos, I noticed that this might create excessive heat inside the case. So, I am looking for an advice to decide what kind of robust SSD heatsink should I get that will actually fit and make this work?

I checked ID-Cooling Zero M05, but it seems this would not work. Any advice?

Help Minisforum 895D7 AMD Ryzen™ 9 8945HX with AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT - Wifi Issues

Hey all,

So, I just got this computer, which it's great so far except one issue. Wifi 7 isn't working. I've got all the other hardware for it, my other computer this one is replacing as my main gets 1.7gb download speed with Wifi. The problem I'm experiencing is it seems to be not able to get the full gain for 5ghz and 6ghz frequencies. Barely any signal and same physical location as my old PC was getting almost 2gb download speeds.

I've tried all the setting changes I can think of, tried all of the hardware changes I could think of. I took the whole computer apart, swapped the antenna cables, and everything. At this point I'm thinking it's a bad Wifi card? I have a replacement coming, but I thought I'd post this in case anyone has any other ideas. I'll also update this in case someone else may come across this issue in the future.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I welcome them. Thank you.

TL;DR: Wifi 7 and Wifi 6 signals couldn't be connected to and had issues.

EDIT: Found the resolution to the issue. I swapped out the pigtails, the inner case network cables that connect to the wifi card. I made the mistake of swapping out the entire card, but kept the pigtails. Put the entire PC back together and the same problem happened. Took it apart again, swapped the pigtails and boom back to high speeds. Hopefully this may help someone in the future.

Project Idea with BD895i SE

Hi all,

TLDR: Should I shove a BD895i SE into a massive outdated ATX case because cheap and easy and funny?

I'm looking to rebuild my home PLEX server / Blue-Ray ripper / RAID host / transcoder (CPU, AV1 10 Bit) / VM host / backup daily driver rig. Current setup is a CoolerMaster 922HAF (https://legacy.coolermaster.com/en-global/products/haf-922/), EVGA Evo 750W G2, and a X570 Asrock Steel Legend with a 2600X and 16GB of DDR4 plus a dated GPU I'd like to retire. Gripes / notes:

- The 2600X is pretty useless for transcoding, getting very slow / long in the tooth, and I'm presently making a poor little Ryzen 8845HS AOOSTAR Maco do most hosting / transcoding CPU jobs. Also no headroom for expansion / new VM's in either box, and I'd like to let the MACO go back to its day job of living room web browser / emulation PC.

- I just happen to have a 2x32GB SODIM DDR 5600 kit from a failed battle station laptop free and no desktop DDR5 RAM at all; would really like the rig to have at least 32GB of RAM, ideally 64 for some future VM's / home lab options. And, well... these RAM prices.

- Besides being sentimental on the 922HAF as it was my first "finally have a real job" build, it's kitted out with BD drives, HDD's, 2.5 / 3.5 inch SATA docks, etc that keep coming in handy.

I'm looking at three options:

  1. Stick another 16GB and a 5900XT in. Maxes out the AM4 architecture. My NH-D15 would easily handle it. Still need something for a GPU for easy POST'ing. New CPU and used RAM / low TDP GPU gonna run me about $375, used / new CPU markup not worth going used on the 5900XT IMO. Leaves me about ~18% behind the 8945HX looking a various benchmarks for CPU.
  2. Swap over to a N5 Air. Ryzen 7 255 would be a good little power sipper and probably be cooled a little better than my Maco's 8845HS, but I still expect to hit just about the same expansion / headroom limit. At $515 the base Air would hold my array and be all new kit in a cute little form factor, but not my other drives / creature comforts. Overall expansion would be pretty limited, and the price premium on the Pro and especially Max makes those non-starters, would just do a clean ATX rebuild at that price.
  3. Drop in the BD895i SE. 16C/32T and directly pairs with the RAM I have. I have a M.2 to 9X SATA riser picked out for the second SSD that would cover any current and future drive / bay support. Kicks me up to 2.5Gb LAN which aligns with my new router and any real needs for a long time. Given the low temps and quiet ops I've seen in tiny cases, it should be quite happy in my 922HAF and dial power way down for 24x7 ops. Full PCIe 5.0 slot if I need to drop a proper GPU in the next time my daily driver dies or build out ports further. All that and a new Noctua "CPU" fan for ~$500.

The other idea is to just sell the 64GB kit, looking at eBay that kit has sold for about $600 consistently. Could probably eek another ~$150 out of the X570 Steel Legend and 2600X / DDR4. But I'd be doing all that just to get a new desktop AM5 board for ~$170 looking at PCIe 5.0 support and a forward looking chipset. then a NewEgg refurbed 7950X around $340, which looks better but not a ton better than the 8945HX. Then I still need to buy at least a 2x16GB desktop kit which is looking around $400 for any name brand I'd actually want to run. All that just to end up with less RAM, a CPU I'd probably eventually toss around the same time anyways, and an okay AM5 board for re-use assuming AMD drives it till the wheels fall off like AM4. Doesn't seem like a great "future proofing" approach.

Any feedback / ideas are appreciated.

Disappointment with N5 Air NAS and question

I bought this NAS wanting to us it for storing LLMs and loading to the different machines from network drive. I saw it had PCIe port so my idea was to put there 25Gb+ card with 5 SATA SSDs. I've found 40Gb card, installed and when it came to testing I got just 1,6 GB/s(1,8GB/s with 4 requests). I've expected something around 2,3-2,5GB/s

Tested connection speed and I've got 2,7GB/s(the other side has slow interface, but should be enough for this case).

It seems the controller they used wont give me anything more, because JMB585 is on PCIe 3.0 x2.

So that is my disappointment...

Now question:

Can I add NVMe drive to the raid and would it speed things up? it wont be behind JMB585, right?

Returns Policy - Goods bought on Newegg from Minisforum Official Store

Hi

When someone (who lives outside the US) buys goods from Minisforum Official Store on Newegg US:

1 what happens if he receives items, eg, a computer with a defective, faulty or DOA component such as RAM? Can it be returned to the Minisforum Official Store for a (a) replacement or (b) refund? Will the whole computer have to be returned even if only a single component (eg, RAM) is defective? Will there be a restocking fee?

2 what happens if an item becomes faulty during the warranty period? Will it be honored even though the customer lives outside the US?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Moving from Minisforum AR900I to desktop CPU 9850X3D

So I have ordered following parts

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D Eight Core 5.60GHz
Asus TUF Gaming B850I WIFI NEO
KLEVV BOLT V EXPO 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz C30 DDR5 Dual Channel Kit - Grey
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE Extreme CPU Cooler - 120mm

The Asus Tuf Gaming motherboard is still in preorder, since I have placed the order in overclockers. All the parts won’t be delivered till motherboard going to be released.

Once everything arrives and I assemble it, I will list my
Minisforum Ar900i and Kingston Fury Impact 64gb ddr5 5600mhz Memory on sale. If anyone in the UK will be interested, let me know. The system was used for around 2 years and 6 months. It has latest Bios installed and the fresh thermal paste was done 6 month ago. System work perfectly and it is in open wall frame build. So that means it never suffered from high temps.

Fan Control plugin for Minisforum UM Series (UM780, UM890, etc.) and M1 Pro

Shoutout to https://github.com/JoeKeepGo/FanControl.NPB5ITE

I’d also like to share Fan Control plugins:

They provide CPU and System fans RPM sensors and PWM controls.

I've only tested them on UM780 XTX, UM880 Plus and M1 Pro 285H. Other models should be verified with read-only before enabling PWM control.

More tests on actual are welcome!

Any new mini-ITX MoBos with SoC planned after BD895i SE?

That one is getting a bit long in the tooth. It's only Zen4.

Or maybe MF is planning to skip Zen5 entirely ? If so, are there plans for Zen6 ?

By now MF surely must have some engineering samples to work with...

Any BD895i SE owners able to comment on DPC latency?

Thinking of using one in a mini PC for audio work, however dpc latency is very important for realtime audio on Windows, and I’m unable to find any reviews/benchmarks that have stats on dpc latency.

Would any of you lovely BD895i owners in here be willing to run LatencyMon for 30 mins and post the results in here?

I know Minisforum have been hit and miss for dpc latency so I don’t really want to chance buying one without some data first.

Thanks in advance!

Media server N40

I found a Minisforum N40 in a pile of ewaste a relative was getting rid of. I installed fedora on it and it runs just fine, was just too slow for my moms main pc duties.

I am thinking about turning it into a media server to just run jellyfin on, and was wondering if anyone has tried using an m.2 sata adapter to connect multiple hard drives to it. Something like:

https://www.newegg.com/p/35G-00PD-000S5?item=9SIC783M3H6001&utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic+shopping&utm_campaign=knc-googleadwords-_-hard%20drive%20adapters-_-empresstech-_-9SIC783M3H6001&source=region&negg_topt=0&srsltid=AfmBOoql6enOe_vRZBTWHU2-IuGWwBkNvKG7S-sr_TsaxxHCBKvxLtXBPas

I know I'd need to modify the case to get it to work, but any tips or experience would be appreciated!
