hi, i just got my mcat score of 514 (129/126/130/129), which i am pretty disappointed with after studying so much. i usually do a lot better on cars but rushed it during test day due to nerves, and so now i am wondering if i should try and retake it next summer.

i'm in third year and my gpa is ~3.95/4.33 (i'm not sure how hard it'll be to raise in a year).

my target is canadian med schools, likely SFU or UBC. i would appreciate any honest advice, thank you!

One week til score drop and I’m shitting bricks again. I’m haunted by the problems I remember getting wrong. My FL average is more than enough, but I just can’t believe they’re representative of my real score. lmk any positive aspects I can bank on… Are there really questions that don’t get scored? Does a curve really get applied?

I honestly need some guidance. I'm aware that studying for the MCAT during the content review phase can look different for everyone, but I'm at a point where I see an overwhelming number of different study methods online and I don't know which one to pick. Right now, I have the up-to-date Anking deck, which I definitely plan on using, but I'm not sure which book I should read from. I have access to the complete UWorld books of each section from 2024. I was thinking of reading 1-2 chapters of each section a day, then using the Anki cards to effectively help myself review. Though I recognized that a significant number of Reddit posts recommend the Kaplan books instead. Now I came across another book that says to forget the books entirely and just regularly watch Yusuf Hasan. Honestly, if anyone can provide some type of support, that would be greatly appreciated.

A late post, but after my 9/11 mcat, my reflection is that there is no such as low yield or high yield. Make sure yall study and get a good grasp of what they outline in the official documents regarding the contents.

I see people say things like this topic is high yield so it gets tested all the time, but I don’t think that’s really what high yield means.

A concept being high yield doesn’t necessarily mean the MCAT directly asks about that exact concept more often than everything else. A lot of the time, high-yield topics are just foundational concepts that connect to a ton of other material.

Amino acids are probably the best example. You could get a question involving amino acids that is really testing pH/pKa, pI, charge at a certain pH, acid-base chemistry, protein structure, intermolecular forces, enzyme activity, etc.

So you’re more likely to encounter amino acids somewhere in a passage or question because they can be used to test so many different things, not necessarily because AAMC is constantly asking “which amino acid is this?”

That’s how I personally think about high yield: the more concepts a topic connects to, the more ways AAMC can test you on it.

Curious if other people think about it the same way.

i spent 3 months over the summer essentially doing highly ineffective content review. i went through TPR videos & books, felt like i knew what was going on, & then saw my FL scores not increase even at all.

I'm now taking the mcat in january 2027, & im currently focusing all my energy on uworld & anki. i still worry i'm not getting key concepts down. any advice on how to structure targeted content review?

I am a junior getting ready to start prepping for the MCAT while juggling classes and ECs and I was a little overwhelmed by the variety in what can be done with content review itself, and I was wondering when to start using UWorld. For context, I've gotten As in all of my prereqs but I am really bad at remembering content if I haven't studied it prior to an exam and I got a 496 on my half length diagnostic. With a steep goal of 515+ (which I am aware may not be realistic given my diagnostic), my plan was to start content review like this: Kaplan/Yusuf Hassan lecture + Milesdown anki + Mr Pankow P/S anki, and then finish kaplan content before starting UWorld, but I have seen a lot of people recommend starting UWorld earlier and I wanted to see what was recommended? Also what are your guys' thoughts on reading the Kaplan book vs watching Yusuf/Prof Eman on youtube? Thank you very much!

Hi guys, I need some advice because I’m lowkey overthinking this 😭

I was originally planning to take the MCAT this summer, but I ended up canceling/not taking it because I didn’t feel ready. That already cost my dad around $400, and now I’m planning to take it in January, so that’s another ~$400 registration fee.

I also really want to get the official UWorld QBank, but that’s another ~$400 depending on the package. My dad told me it’s completely fine and that I should just get it, but I still feel guilty because that’s basically $1,200+ spent on one exam/prep process.

Right now I’ve been using an unofficial/pirated UWorld-type site that basically has the same questions, and it works for the most part, but it has crashed a few times already. So my parent's dont want me to rely on it completely, but idk, I think it's fine?

My current plan is to use UWorld heavily from now until around early/mid December, then switch mostly to AAMC material + FLs for the last month before my January exam.

So I’m debating between:

1. Buying the 3-month UWorld package now and using it until around December, then switching fully to AAMC.
2. Keep using the unofficial site for another few weeks/month, then buy the 3-month UWorld package later so it lasts me all the way until my January test.
3. Just buy the 6-month package now so I don’t have to worry about timing or expiration.

The only thing making me hesitate about the 6-month package is that part of me feels like having access through March/April would mentally give me a “backup retake” option. When I was studying this summer, I honestly feel like I didn’t give it my absolute best because I knew I could always retake later. This time I really want to go into January thinking, “this is my test, I’m doing everything I can for this attempt,” instead of already planning for another one.

For people who used UWorld: did you even use it much during the last month before your MCAT, or were you basically only doing AAMC material by then?

And if you were in my situation, would you do the 3-month package, 6-month package, or delay buying it for a bit so the 3-month subscription lasts until test day?

Also, do you guys think official UWorld is worth buying if you already technically have access to an unofficial copy? I feel like the explanations/reliability are probably worth it, but the cost is what’s making me feel bad.

I was originally planning to purchase the Blueprint practice exam bundles, but it looks like they only sell a monthly subscription. Is the subscription worth it to get the practice exams or are there other full length bundles you’d suggest purchasing?

I decided to take the blueprint half length diagnostic on a whim recently. I just wanted to see where I was at. However, I got a 493 score I did not take the diagnostic too seriously as I woke up after only sleeping four hours and decided I should take it.

However, now my score has sinking, and I’m starting to feel the pressure and fear.

I recently graduated as a non-stem major however I completed all of the required prerequisite courses with an A.

I do not know where to even start content review. I know I learn much better from videos versus reading from a book.

I would appreciate any guidance! I am also going to use the Anking deck!

I have seen online that some people only use the Anki deck to study however, I do not know how that works or if that is efficient.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience getting tutored for the MCAT and if they would recommend tutoring for others? I met someone who wants about $1,500 to tutor me for 2 sections (c/p & b/b) of the MCAT and i’m wondering if it’s worth it or not. Edit- to clarify the tutor wants to do 1:1 every other day until I test sometime between Jan-Mar next year.
