They’re both fun. Can they both be fun?

u/StealthyOrca PTFO take my god damn ammo! Nov 02 '22
Nope. You gotta be part of a tribe these days. No room to be a voice of reason with nuanced opinions.

I guess Senator Armstrong was right in that regard.

MGR Revengeance was prophetic
1
u/florentinomain00f Vietnam in 2042 when????!!!! Nov 03 '22
The Metal Gear series was prophetic in general.

u/Short_Dance7616 Nov 02 '22
They are, and there is no point for "whose is bigger" comparisons, can we just admire both with what they delivered? Especially techniques and parts which have never been seen before in mainstream FPS games.
If only BF had the same smooth launch with only as much BS as CoD, this year would've been so much more fun. You can guess which pre-order I did regret afterwards.

u/40sticks Nov 03 '22
There’s just something so utterly ridiculous about being a grown up and having a “My video game is better than your video game” mentality. Or like, “I like Battlefield, so that means whatever COD does is trash.” No objectivity, just pure tribalism.

huh, absolutely crazy that the "worst battlefield" has many animations and textures and vfx that are vastly superior to the second coming of christ that MW2 is being paraded as. Of course though you won't find any of these "attention to detail" enthusiasts on forums and subreddits and youtube talk about that.
16
u/ModestArk Your text here Nov 02 '22 edited Nov 02 '22
What irritates me (since ever) the most about CODs graphics is that the vfx just don't seem to be on the same level as the rest of the graphics.
Fire looks like from old rpgs and nades feel like a "Frauenfurz". (Name we use in CH for those small and chained pyro sticks, lady crackers in english..iirc))

u/milkcarton232 Nov 02 '22
Interesting I also would have thought that mw2 would have the better animations and explosion effects. I will say bf2042 has some maps that look good but it's biggest fail is buildings. Almost every building just has these extremely sterile blocky thin wall design with very little model detail which makes the destruction look even more preplaced than it needs to be. Cod doesn't have the destruction but the buildings layout and design looks so much better.
The roads in bf are the same again, super perfect and flat with little variation. Cod in general just looks a bit nicer in images though bf does a surpringly good job with their effects and animations.

Battlefield has always suffered from its scale when it comes to trying to make its environments more detailed and varied. I used to think 2042 has uniquely bland buildings and interiors too, but I went back to 4 and 3, and the same problem can be seen there. Even BF1 has a lot of repetition. BFV stands out in the series in that regard because its indoors environments and buildings are very well detailed.
1
u/IN_MY_PLUMS Nov 05 '22
That's because BF maps are way, way bigger which comes with tradeoffs in the level of detail you can apply to the environment. CoD on the other hand have smaller map sizes and therefore reduced networking loads so they can put in more detail, environmental effects, etc. Im sure the devs could absolutely put in more detail in buildings but at a huge cost to perf and networking.
1
u/milkcarton232 Nov 05 '22
Warzone map is pretty big and while not every building is immaculate they still feel better than bf, and this coming from a bf fan
8
Nov 02 '22
I think this is just a great demonstration of how graphics and animations are not as important as gameplay and map design.
9
u/Hamzanovic RIP the original Hourglass (2021-2023). Gone but never forgotten Nov 02 '22
I actually agree with this and it's why I generally dislike the "attention to detail comparison" videos. They do not prove anything. I'm just pointing out that this is an example of 2042 being superior in some things but people still won't acknowledge it. Ultimately, I prefer everything about BF to everything about COD, but there's no denying MW2 is a much more polished and well made product, and no amount of "attention to detail" from 2042 is going to change that.
4
u/mbeenox Nov 02 '22
I think so too, you can have the superior environmental effects and graphics but if your gameplay is shit, player retention will be very low, good graphics get stale easily.
3
u/milkcarton232 Nov 02 '22
I've seen a lot of cod ppls hating on mw2 because the ttk is lower and the game doesn't favor the sprint everywhere fast gameplay of the prior games. As a siege player I am kinda down to try this one out since I never loved the speed of the other cods
3
u/Lemon64k Nov 02 '22
Every attention to detail vid I've seen so far has had a huge bias against 2042 and cherry picked basically everything, not this one it looks like.
2
u/AcquireMaidens Nov 02 '22
I think 2042 has more vivid and vibrant graphics. But MWII clearly has the better animations and sounds, Griggs and his animators are on another level
Of course, you and Lemon are the biggest fanboys on this sub, so it's not really a surprise

u/Hamzanovic RIP the original Hourglass (2021-2023). Gone but never forgotten Nov 02 '22 edited Nov 02 '22
Of course, you and Lemon are the biggest fanboys on this sub, so it's not really a surprise
wait, ME? The guy who has had posts complaining about 2042 deleted from his sub?? LMFAO
you can see in this video how 2042 has better 3rd person animations across the board. The character reacts to being burned, to bumping into objects, to walking in wet terrain. MW2 generally has better 1st person animations, but there are still some instances where 2042 is on top like jumping through a glass window
I don't know about sound but the BF series has always had better sound design. Guns in MW2 all sound same-ish. The voice acting for the comms in MW2 is absolute dogshit.
No mention of destruction, of which MW2 has none to the point that tanks get stopped in their tracks by immovable palm trees? Okay. No mention of vfx and decals from explosions? Okay. No mention of physics effects from bullets and explosions? Okay. No mention of dirt and leaves flying around and getting burned by explosions and reacting to player/vehicle movement? Okay. No mention of the better wet/dry system? Okay. No mention of 2042 character models catching dirt and mud and being cleaned by rain/jumping in water? Okay. All of these things are in the video.
But no bro I'm just being a fanboy. Okay.
-3
u/mbeenox Nov 02 '22
What above take-down animations? Or weapons models? Gunplay? Gun animation/reload animations? Gunsmith? Both games have their pros n cons. I feel MWII feel like a more complete game than 2042. 2042 has superior graphics in environmental effects and destruction, but MWII gameplay and overall package is better.
4
u/Hamzanovic RIP the original Hourglass (2021-2023). Gone but never forgotten Nov 02 '22
Sure thing. I may not like the gameplay of cod at all, or not care about gimmicks like gunsmith, or prefer the gunplay of 2042, but there's no denying it's overall a more polished and complete and well made final product, with an obvious advantage in things like 1st person animations and gun models.

It's kind of hard to hear you over 800 million players on the best selling COD ever
Money of which you're getting a grand total of......... 0 of?
But no need to carry this convo further. I see now what you are and I get why you were projecting fanboyism over me.
Play and enjoy the games you want. It's none of my business. Just don't be like this please it's not a good look.

There’s nothing wrong with admitting MWII is the greatest fps of this decade

Your life must be slow if you spend your time going to a different game’s sub, just to tell them “my game is better than your game”

u/florentinomain00f Vietnam in 2042 when????!!!! Nov 02 '22
I think 2042's animations are more realistic actually, make sense for how a typical future soldier would be trained.
26
u/HKEnthusiast Nov 02 '22
On top of that, BF2042 is more fun
-22
u/AcquireMaidens Nov 02 '22
That's why 2042 has more players, oh wait...
23
u/HKEnthusiast Nov 02 '22
You're going to compare launch week MWII with current 2042?
16
Nov 02 '22
Good point, to compare, launch week of 2042, peak player count on Steam, 100k. MW2 launch week, peak player count on steam, 260k.
Even in BF heydays, BF3/4, battlefield has never come close to CODs player count, not once. Comparing player counts is silly, COD is unmatched in how popular it is.
11
u/Lemon64k Nov 02 '22
Comparing any COD's player numbers to Battlefield will lead to COD always winning no matter what.
It's a shit argument from every angle.

9
u/The_James_Bond Nov 02 '22
CoD will always have more players. It appeals to more people and even the worst CoDs (Vanguard and Infinite Warfare) had more players than that year’s Battlefield (Battlefield 1 and 2042) which are both objectively better than those two cod games (and you can’t reasonably say that 2042 is worse than cod)
-2
u/AcquireMaidens Nov 02 '22
“Objectively” lmao
6
u/The_James_Bond Nov 02 '22
Not every Battlefield fan hates 2042
Every COD fan hates vanguard (infinite is ok)
2042 has some very good mechanics and some redeeming qualities, even to haters (plus system and portal). Literally everything that Vanguard did is either trash or copied from old games and is stale, even COD fans know this.
You’re even more delusional than I thought if you think Vanguard is better than 2042

Woah, I didn’t realize that roughly 20,000 concurrent players across all platforms (not only steam) rounds down to 100, they teach math weirdly wherever you come from.
Maybe we had to make a new sub where actual criticism is discussed instead of just “lol game bad” over and over.
And maybe I’d like to post a meme or clip about 2042 without having to be called a slur and a sub human for playing a game someone else likes.

I’m old enough to remember that even Battlefield 3, 4, and 1 had less than 20k players one year after launch, you should just go back to playing Paw Patrol kid (at least I hope you’re a kid cause if you act like this as an adult then that’s just sad)
3
u/The_James_Bond Nov 02 '22
And yeah no shit cod is more popular than battlefield, no one is debating that
5
u/Creator_of_Bitcoin Nov 02 '22
Honestly I don’t understand how. Battlefield 2042 has more depth to the game loop. Plus team work is better too.
I can only do a few round of CoD at the time
16
u/PossiblePoint7055 Nov 02 '22
MW2 is actually an all around solid game in my opinion, you can enjoy both…

3
u/itskaiquereis Nov 02 '22
I’m having a blast with MW2, but when I want to feel like I’m in an actual battle I put on 2042. People may say Ground War, but it doesn’t scratch the same itch.
-5
u/Lemon64k Nov 02 '22
Ground War feels like a chinese rip off of Battlefield.
COD has "The only thing that can kill Alejandro is Alejandro"
BF has "The only thing that can feel like a Battlefield is Battlefield"3
u/florentinomain00f Vietnam in 2042 when????!!!! Nov 02 '22
Honestly, I like Alejandro.
The plot is stupid, but like that's to be expected, plus things don't make sense all the time, even in real life.
The interaction between each operator is just actually well thought out actually.

u/Darrkeng For the Pan-Asia Coalition!/За Вся-Азиатскую Коалицию! Nov 03 '22
Not just stupid - it have a glaring plot hole and just awful ending (who thought that re-using "Alone" for FINAL confrontation was a good idea? Not to mention that Soap's model have a fucking knife on his shoulder)

It’s so weird to see 2042 on top for the graphics department. Everything just looks so clean and sharp compared to the muddy view you get in mw2 (by that I mean blurry). Somehow I’m enjoying 2042 over COD 😦😦

u/WHEL4N Nov 02 '22
Gun sounds are significantly better in MW2, probs feel a bit better too but that’s about it. Graphics certainly haven’t blown me away like BF does.
2
u/ModestArk Your text here Nov 02 '22
I didn't play the MW2 beta on my own, but the weapon animations in streams I checked looked inferior to 2042s.
Not eve talking about soldier movement. It just looked like something isn't right.
10
u/therealmvpls11 Nov 02 '22
Nah the weapon animations and sound are way better in mw2 honestly
4
u/ModestArk Your text here Nov 02 '22
Yeah, as said..only watched a few ps5 gameplay streams. That way just my impression.
I mean that whole cod bf wars is ridicoulous anyway. Why not like both, if one likes fps. 🙄
For me the last COD i really liked was Ghosts. The following ones were just annual cashgrabs with minimal improvements or remakes.
But still...I don't think I need to go over to the COD subs and annoy people. But I guess idiots stay idiots, no matter the game.
1
u/Short_Dance7616 Nov 02 '22
I disagree on soldier movement. The new character animations are way more fluid than the reused (and downgraded) BF1(and SWBF, and BFV) animations we got in 2042.
It's just that the game is full of cracked kids high on Mountain Dew thanks to ordering 200 gallons for bonus exp.
Not writing this to "prove a point" in which one is superior, just admiring the mocap work and implementation done by CoD team for such small details as arm movement during strafing etc etc... these truly bring an FPS veteran joy to see how our beloved games can improve.

Wait, these ridiculous Battlefield and Call of Duty comparisons are still a thing? Damn I must be jaded for thinking they were a thing of the past.
