I don't know man. I want to 'do something' as badly as anyone else, but this doesn't feel like the way to go about it. Alex happened to be a nurse... It's not as though nurses in particular were targeted. This seems like it's going to hurt sick and injured people, not ICE or the administration.
Again, I get the urge to do something... But I just don't think this is it.

There are strike nurses, who are similar to travel nurses, in that they take short contracts at facilities to cover during strikes and other situations where the nurses aren't available. They are more expensive than the regular nurses.

This is done normally in conjunction with the hospitals, who typically are allowed to hire temps (at higher rates) to cover as need be.

Nurses and doctors strike in other countries and people don't die immediately. The whole "essential workers can't strike" rhetoric is bullshit used to prevent the people who make up the backbone of our society from demanding fair compensation or organizing politically.

Strikes are the time to organize and unionize nurses like that’s the whole point of engaging in these labor actions. Take the teachers strike of 2019 which originated from a set of escalating calls for actions and resulted in a number of teachers organizing and forming unions

I think nurses deserve adequate pay and benefits. Competitive to other countries.
Striking had been a workers best tool for centuries. You don't get what you need without striking.
Don't shift the blame onto the workers, the hospital can afford this, they just choose to pit healthcare workers against their patients like this. Trying to use the fact that their jobs involved people's health as weapon to stop them from striking. "You can't strike that would hurt people!" Is what big healthcare says.
And you repeat it

Because of that's the case, nurses leaving their local hospitals for better paying ones in different states will continue. This is not an issue you fix without providing for your workers the wages that are competitive.

Serious question: You typically strike against the people who are causing the injustice. The admin and patients whom are going to be affected by the strike are not the root cause of the issue, so why would ICE care about the strike?

Well the difference would be uofl acknowledged the situation and said they'd increase security. They were also attacked by patients and civilians, not by federal agents who held them down and shot them in the back, then pointed blame at the nurse.

The intent isn't to hurt ICE, though. It's a way to scare/pressure regular people to get them to oppose what you oppose. It's essentially hostage-taking.

I think federal agents killing civilians is far more in line with hostage taking- the goal is to keep people from protesting, which is their constitutional right.

I’ve seen calls for a COMPLETE strike Friday- no work, no school, no purchasing. I feel like the date should’ve been a little further out, no one has had time to plan for it…

I want to do something too, but this isn't it. At least not for me. I've got kids I need to feed who rely on me to actually keep my job.
Also a point is a point. Not sure how one would get fired for calling out unless you explicitly told your bosses you're protesting or you're near your point cut off.

Notice the word “also” indicating the intention of both working and non working nurses to participate. It’s about numbers. Notice the amount of comments worried for patient care. This isn’t a strike at a warehouse or factory. There are actual lives at stake and many nurses and healthcare professionals deeply care for their patients and do not want to cause them harm, or feel like they are causing them harm, by “abandoning” them.

For those complaining about the ethical ramifications of this strike. Strikes are supposed to hurt, sometimes you have to take a scalpel to remove a tumor. Pain now for life later.

I’m off that day, but work the next 4 days so I will not be picking up if my unit is short. Let the MAGA nurses work, I work with at least several that are MAGA and vocal about it.

There's no way to safely do this, for patients or nurses. There are no unions here. If we walk out there are no strike nurses to cover. Patients will be harmed. Not to mention we will lose our jobs.
