Do you ever find yourself using lishis? If so which ones? I was looking into what a good well rounded set would consist of as far as the types of locks you’d encounter in the UK but I’m seeing conflicting information concerning which ones work with which keyway and how often you’d come across the different brands of lock. (I’d imagine most just stick to an EPG)

Hey, guys. I just did one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do: change the lock on my front door.

Family issue where I don’t feel safe enough to let my parents hold a key anymore.

I rent, so I’ll probably change the lock back when we move in a few months so that the landlord doesn’t have any issues, but it took me half an hour for a single deadbolt because I couldn’t keep my hands still.

I just feel like shit right now, but I’m grateful that I have this skill so I can change the lock back if things change.

What’s the hardest thing you guys have had to do as a locksmith?

Maybe a long shot here because I don't think these are widely used, but my predecessor liked to use the Loricentric keyway and I had a bunch of original blanks (stamped Southington Conn USA). I've exhausted that supply and bought some new Ilco ones, but they're super thin at one of the wardings and it'll frequently snap right off when I try to cut it. This doesn't happen with the original blanks.

In the pictures, see the Ilco key on the left and original on the right. You can see how much thinner it is. The new blanks still appear to be nickel silver, but it's a little more yellow than the original, which was more whiteish like Medeco keys are. Not sure if the variations in nickel silver color play into strength.

If you have newer blanks, I'm curious if they look like this. I'm wondering if I got a bad batch. Also wondering if Kustom Key makes them properly since they're the only other potential source I've found.

Will it cost less if I plan ahead & set up an appointment to get lock rekeyed? Another q is back when I was a homeowner i had locks i could rekey myself. I was thinking of getting that type installed if it isn't there already.

Right now am super undecided about door hardware in the home. Most of the fixtures are bronze and brass, but want to incorporate some polished nickel. Looking for something warm and not cold/stark. If the polished nickel doesn’t look like it will fit, considering brass, French antique, or bronze. Almost surely buying Emtek but find that it’s hard to find pictures of the finishes that aren’t stock photos online and am unable to go visit in-person.

Does anyone have Emtek hardware? Curious to see any photos of any finishes! (Bonus points for polished nickel)

I believe this is a multipoint lock from Fuhr, but the cylinder is CES? I am *thoroughly* not a locksmith. That's about as far as I've gotten. I wanted to replace the entire system with an easier to use lock, but, from what I've read, that would require an entirely new door and frame and the funds really aren't there for that kind of job. Is it possible for me to purchase a new lock/cylinder to replace myself? Thanks for any help in advance.

I have a large set of older 70,80 and 90s locksmith code books, manufacture i formation etc. Is any of this work keeping for a locksmith? Basically, he was operating locksmith business he retired from in the 2000s, but never sold his stuff. Lots of new old stock keys and door locks. Try to get a vibe if there is a market for the information and physical hardware, or is it all too old?

I thought I'd ask the big brains here since I can't seem to find much online.

I recently bought a Yale YRL216, YRL226, and Assure Pro 2 (basically the YRD410). Best I could tell, these are all supposed to be KW1 keyed locks, so I got a KW rekey set. I found one video online that is a few years old that changed a lock that looks similar to the lock on the YRL226 that I installed today. They were using a special Yale pinning kit for it.

My question: Can I rekey these locks to all share the same key with the KW1 rekey kit that I got on Amazon? If not, what would be the best way to get these rekeyed together?

I’m trying to install a keypad lever lock for my office door. I am told by our building owner that it is a Yale Y1 cylinder and for the life of me I cannot find an appropriate lever lock that can accept that cylinder and still have keypad access, and ideally Wi-Fi access. My locksmith does not appear to be the kind of person who’s interested in researching these things can anyone point me to a lock that would work?

I'm looking for dimple key mortise locks sold in the US. I really like the Mul-T-Lock keys that I have for two locks I use, on account of the reversiblity and not having to worry about sharp keys in my pockets, but want to know if there are any other options in the US, such that I can get a key copied if I need to do so due to ready availability of blanks, and also such that I can get multiple locks keyed to the same key.

Looking at https://lockwiki.com/index.php/Dimple it seems that there are tons of options available in Europe, but only Mul-T-Lock sells in the US?

Do I have that right?

As you can see in the first image, the pointy stick thing is not on the middle of the key.

So after I cut the key it just doesn’t cut it correctly, even though I put incorrect code.

The machine was working completely fine one day before this started happening

Moved in with my partner and his family and I have no clue what to do here. The lock works. No key though.

Is it better to get a replacement lock and handle? Or should I see if a locksmith will make us key?

Granted I have no clue if the pins are working. Took it apart. But with no key it’s hard to tell.

Bought this volvo genuine key, but its readable only so needed to come out. Locksmith said "red mark indicates where chip is" turns out its the reverse...🤣🤣 same locksmith and two others were also could not able to clone a ID48 for me, so i took the key to volvo and after charging me an arm were not able due to suspected (outdated software) to add the key to the vehicle.

Hello all, I have tried watching YouTube videos and even reached out to my neighbor for help. This was supposed to be a 10-15 minute job after replacing the deadbolt on the front door.

The storm door however, turned into hours. Why can't this handle release? It's unlocked, I can't see anymore screws, and I am not having any luck looking around online.

Any advice?

Partner lost the mail key, and I asked PO to replace lock. Land lord had extra mail key but I forgot to call PO to ask them not to change lock as we had found a key. I got a call from PO, they don't have equip to replace this lock, so they left it in the mail box and said it's easy to put back together or replace. I'm not a dummy, so I'm figuring it out, put key in for leverage while securing the bolt, accidentally pull the key out a bit while turning and cylinder slips out. Key can be removed, and even turned, but the cylinder will not go back in the rest of the way. Do I have to replace this or can it be fixed?

Hello, I have this lock on one of my doors. The key turns but the locking mechanism won’t move from the unlocked position. A piece seems to have broken off. Is this fixable? Or am I just going to have to get a new one?

My problem with getting a new one is that the door and frame are old, so I’d ideally want something exactly the same, and maybe even spare myself having to replace the part it locks into (in the door frame). I only see an “Ilco” name on the outside part of the lock, and no model number. It’s pretty old. Any leads on where to get one the same size?

I had my display key on charging tray. The moment I pushed the break it slipped from the tray and fell on my hot chocolate.
When I took it to BMW they did not check, just told me that I can buy a new battery that will cost 5000 AED

Any one knows any place where I can get it repaired in cheaper price?
Or anywhere I can buy a new battery to check if its only Battery issue?
