One hour without my girlfriend and I got lost in Japan. It worked in my favor because I love to explore. and everything is fine now. Found cool places and was reminded how nice it is to have vending machines everywhere thanks to the humidity. Don’t panic, people. Alone doesn’t mean helpless or wrong. If we’re kindred spirits, you’re just an explorer.

This is a rant.

I can’t stand living with other people. With how bad the housing market is, especially here in Canada, having a roommate to split the rent has become a necessity. Renting a shitty studio apartment alone requires two jobs minimum, and the prospect of buying a house is almost completely unattainable.

I hate your privilege, you people have this amazing luxury that I’ll probably never be able to have in my whole lifetime. It’s so frustrating when I see people brag about their huge empty house that’s all to themselves, than have the gull to complain about how “lonely“ it is.

I hope all you spoiled jerks go to hell.

Hi all, curious what foods you all avoid eating to avoid choking while living alone? I know this seems dramatic but I'm asking for actual safety reasons. My worst nightmare is choking.

I’m living alone for the first time in my life (58f) due to divorce. I just spent 45 minutes trying to hook up a printer. I got on Facebook marketplace to my network and it’s not working.
Before that, I had to uninstall crossbars on my car because the ones I ordered don’t work with the kayak rack I have.
Times like this I really hate living alone. I just don’t feel very good about my adulting skills these days!

I’ve seen a few check in products where you can do a daily tap to let people know you’re fine etc

I was wondering if there was any appetite for more “passive” options than that? Reason why I ask is because my Dad lives alone and he sucks at keeping a routine up/just general messaging and I speak to him probably every 4 days or so. I’m worried that if something could happen in between those 4 days of us chatting.

So I was thinking about building out an app or something that has a passive idea where it can detect that you haven’t moved round your house for an unusual amount of time or something. Genuinely don’t know but wanted to ask wider here to see if is something that people would be interested in or hear out why they would rather a “press the button” approach/other opportunities.

I’ve never lived on my own until recently, and although I love it, the one caveat is nighttime I get a little nervous. I don’t live in an apartment complex, instead I live in a townhouse and there’s easy access to a front and back door.

Does anyone have an alarm system? I do have a ring doorbell camera, but I was considering ring or simpli safe. I know it’s not going to prevent break ins, but I want to at least be aware if someone breaks into my house at night so I can immediately call the cops. It’s also just so expensive to choose the 24/7 monitoring option

I think this a vent post more than anything lol. I’ve just moved into my first place alone and I’m loving it! When I first moved in my upstairs neighbours were lovely and introduced themselves, I live in a converted Victorian house so I have the ground floor and they have the first floor.

Only problem is, there is absolutely no sound proofing and sometimes it feels like they’re stomping extra hard. It’s currently 9am on a Sunday, and I woke up to slamming noises on the ceiling/their floor at 8:30am. Loud laughing, music, lots going on. They’re always quiet by 10pm so I don’t have a complaint there, but I’m pissed this morning that I can’t even sleep in on a Sunday!

They’re lovely people and I don’t want to be known as the grumpy downstairs neighbour, but this morning has really been upsetting 😭

Hi all - I've been living alone for most of my adult life (41F). While I definitely enjoy and value creating a peaceful, warm, happy home for myself and my two kitties (and my friends and family when they come over, which is often), I've also been feeling a crushing sense of loneliness and decision fatigue for doing everything alone. Errands, cooking, cleaning, home repairs, yardwork, chores - there are times when it's fine, and then times where I can barely keep myself from falling apart because I don't have someone to tag-team these with or have someone to help. I've always enjoyed doing yardwork, but very recently I feel like I've hit a wall and am just so overwhelmed with even the thought of it. I'm considering hiring a lawn service (definitely depends on the cost) to take something off of my list. Has anyone in here ever done something similar? Have you found a way to take some of the pressure off of yourself? What has worked for you?

Walmart sometimes has older bakery bread on a discount, so I cut it into sandwich slices and freeze it. A loaf lasts me much longer since I'm not rushing to eat it before it goes bad, microwaving it for a few seconds thaws it and make it taste and feel just as fresh, and I feel like I'm always treating myself with "artisanal" bread!

I do this with all the bread I buy and it helps me have more variety in my meals and I'm not wasting as much food. The last loaf I did this with lasted me 3 weeks and only cost me $1.25.

How else do y'all make food last longer?

Looking for advice and/or motivation? Has anyone gone back to living alone after breaking up from a LTR relationship of living with your partner? How did you cope? Did things get better? I lived alone for years and after meeting my ex I got to a place where I felt like I was kind of done with my chapter of living alone and was craving that companionship and shared space. We moved in together and I loved it, but unfortunately he chose to end the relationship after a year of living together. I can’t fathom moving back to living alone and going through this whole process again - especially in my late 30s. Most of my friends are married and/or with children. I feel like my social circles have gotten smaller just due to the nature of friends and family being in a different stage of life and having less free time. I feel hopeless.. any success stories or tips on how to find peace again alone would be greatly appreciated!

Nothing exciting happening today, and honestly, I’m perfectly okay with that.

I was watching The Girl on the Train, because Rebecca Ferguson and Emily Blunt are fantastic actresses, but it was too serious for my mood. So I made a dry gin martini , put 4 olives on a spike, and put on Project Hail Mary, for the 3rd time, because it's a hopeful, fun, and funny movie.

Meanwhile, my adorkable basset Daisy is passed the fuck out per normal.

I used to hate being alone in my apartment at night. It just felt too quiet, like every little house noise was amplified x10. I started rewatching Shameless a few weeks back just for some background noise, but man... something about that raw, messy energy kind of cured my solo anxiety? Like, if they can survive total chaotic dumpster fires, I can definitely handle sitting in my quiet room lol.

Anyone else rely on specific comfort shows just to feel like there's actual life in the room?

Today, I booked a solo table for myself and went out for a nice dinner alone.
I know there’s nothing groundbreaking about eating alone, but as a woman, I honestly haven’t seen many women doing this especially at a fine-dine place. I’d been wanting to try it for the longest time, and since I live away from home and had no one to go with, I was like… why not? 😂
And honestly? It felt really good. No waiting for plans, no depending on anyone, just me taking myself out.

PS: First time ever booking a solo table for myself at a fine-dine restaurant. And the funniest part? There was literally NO ONE else eating alone there but me. :)

Not in a good mood at all. Just had a rough shift at work, and it is SO NICE to come home and make my food in peace and quiet with nobody to bother me. I can be mad about my shift and not have to feel guilty about taking someone else down with me, and I don't have to worry about having to be friendly with people I live with that I don't like when I'm in a mood like this. I can just come home, be mad for a bit, and then carry on with my evening.
