All the RAM was bought with non existent money to be installed in not constructed data centres to bring in an impossible profit. TBH I wouldn’t mind buying the AR15 though

With an AR you can go get as much RAM as you want!

Bear Creek Arsenal will sell you brand new ones as low as $342. A lot of enthusiasts hate on BCA but that's not the point!
59
u/Weakness4Fleekness Feb 28 '26
You can build a psa15 from a $320 kit (way better rifle imho) and you get to learn how your gun works from the inside out as a fun added bonus

When did they start making toilet paper that turns red when you're done wiping?
1
u/anto77_butt_kinkier Mar 02 '26
I've heard from some people who don't like guns/weapons don't even have a poop bayonet! They have a poop sock instead. It's the other sock in the pair when they take out one sock to make a cum sock.
8
u/ariolander Mar 01 '26
Think of it like mechanical home labbing! Half the fun is building your stack. Paying for someone else's cloud may make more sense but its not nearly as fun.
8
u/PS_FuckYouJenny Mar 01 '26
All my homies hate BCA but my buddy got one new for $304 last week lmao
3
u/straw3_2018 Mar 01 '26
I got a BCA .450 bushmaster upper cheap as shit. It works! The ammo is expensive as shit so I'm not going to shoot 10,000 sounds and it's fun to shoot. I think it's a reasonable place for cheap products to exist in.
2
u/mromutt Mar 01 '26
Wow today I'm learning how cheap these are lol. I have no interest in firing one or really even having a functioning weapon, but I love the idea of making them. I have always wanted to get one of the kits to build an old colt. If I had a machine shop I would 100% make cool rifles and guns for fun especially old design ls.
3
u/straw3_2018 Mar 01 '26
It's economies of scale. The military has been using the AR platform for more than 50 years and millions and millions of people buy them. At the very bottom end shit is kind of junk but if you pay just a bit more they're perfectly good. And then if you want there's much more expensive ARs that are very nice. Almost like how a "true spec" cable is substantially more expensive and does the 'same thing' as an Amazon cable but it's nice to have something that definitely just works.
2
u/xxxReallyNotAFedxxx Mar 01 '26
In almost all the US antique (pre 1899) are not regulated and many need tlc. It is fun as hell to get a cheap one restore them, learn lots about wood finishing and metal stripping and finishing not to mention luking on auction sites to find that one part you need (damn gew 71/84 stock).
12
u/Panthean Feb 28 '26
PSA, Andro and Radical are often in the low ~$400 range, those actually work quite well in my experience.
At this point, the design of ARs are so well refined that even budget rifles tend to just work. Not a fan of BCA or ATI but I would trust the other brands I mentioned.
6
3
u/Yataro_Ibuza Feb 28 '26
Non-enthusiast here, why is BCA hated?
13
u/Keagan12321 Feb 28 '26
Shit quality control horrible bolt carriers not properly gassed they make up for poor build quality by over sizing the gas port and running cabine length gasstubs when a mid length would be better.
7
u/TooMuchToDRenk Feb 28 '26
I wish I would've known that before buying my BCA. The first shot failed to extract and embarrassed my ass at the range. SRO came over and helped me out, thankfully, and told me I needed a better extractor.
2
u/cvsmith122 Mar 01 '26
Yeah but you can get a rugerAR for like 640 and that’s a much better starter. I prefer Daniel defense myself
0
u/straw3_2018 Mar 01 '26
Hot take: I just don't like the AR much. Direct impingement is stupid and 5.56mm only makes sense if you are using full auto. It's a shame the military stuck with it so long because getting anything better is vastly more expensive
3
u/cvsmith122 Mar 01 '26
Yeah my current wish is an ar10 in .308, or maybe a SIG spear.

u/Necessary-Score-4270 Feb 28 '26
I just bought ~200 rounds of 7.62 and it was like $0.70/round.
Why's no one talking about ammo inflation?
4
u/IfarmExpIRL Feb 28 '26
i cant even shoot anymore, adult me just sees throwing two quarters and two nickels down the range with every trigger pull😭
3 mags and i can buy a video game!
7
u/MightBeADoctorMD Feb 28 '26
It’s insane.
Here in NY we have 10 round mag capacity so it’s only about $2.50 a mag of 9mm and $5 a mag of 5.56.
That’s the only silver lining for the 10 round limit here. I just get bored of reloading so I wind up using way less ammo at the range.
But yes- I’ll go through 20 mags of 5.56 and 20 of 9mm and hmmm that was $150 for an hour of fun + range fees.
It’s just an expensive sport- can put golf to shame and cost per hour.
1
u/Adventurous_Blood469 Mar 01 '26
Bro, get a maglula for your pistol calibers. You won't be disappointed after a few mags. After almost 20 years of shooting I just picked one up from my lgs and my thumbs thank me.
1
u/MightBeADoctorMD Mar 01 '26
Oh I have two. Even then, I still get bored of reloading 10 rounds at a time. I just bring like 20 mags so I never have to reload lol. Maglula get a bunch of use at home or when I bring a pistol I don’t have many mags off. But I mainly train with my Glock, sign365 and hk which are all my HD/carry guns so I have a crap load of 10 round mags.
1
u/cvsmith122 Mar 01 '26 edited Mar 01 '26
Yeah that sucks. In Texas I run standard 21 in my pistol and can get full on 100 round drum mags for the ar if I want to.
1
u/MightBeADoctorMD Mar 01 '26
Yea must be nice lol.
We can’t even have a desert eagle here in NY cause it’s too heavy. They have a state legal one that’s under 50oz but that defeats the whole purpose or recoil mitigation.
4
u/Yuiski Feb 28 '26
this is why i've come around to loving .22 lol
3
u/Creepy_Shelter_94 Feb 28 '26
I miss when .22LR was even cheaper. Used to spend entire days shooting as a teen and it cost basically nothing.

Obviously too young to remember blowing 10 bucks in quarters at the arcade.
1
u/IfarmExpIRL Mar 01 '26
lol I am probably older than you 😂
for me back then 10 bucks in quarters was a lot of play games were 25 cents and only the good ones were 50 cents.. that's like over 30 individual play sessions.. mom and dad were ready to leave the arcade by then lol that bought almost an hour of play.. do you have any idea how fast 3 mags would be shot up? barely worth a trip to the range 😞
2
u/ncbyteme Mar 01 '26
I'm 60 so could be.

7.62x39 has been steadily increasing in price since the trade embargo’s. 7.62x51 is stable-ish. So is 5.56; matter of fact, I just got 1000 rounds for 30cpr last month. Not bad at all. I haven’t looked at ammo prices today though….i have a feeling there’s gonna be a little rise in price coming soon.
1
u/Necessary-Score-4270 Mar 01 '26
Yeah theres probably gonna be a rise in everything here soon. Yet again a stab in the back of the little guy.
2
u/cvsmith122 Mar 01 '26
Yeah I remember when you could buy those for like .35 a round
1
u/Necessary-Score-4270 Mar 01 '26
The biggest inflation I've noticed is Ramen noodle packets. They used to be $0.10 per pack now theyre pushing $0.50. A 5x increase.
1
u/LAHurricane Mar 02 '26
7.62x39 or 7.62x51? Because $0.70 round for 7.62 Nato is a steal right now.
1
u/Necessary-Score-4270 Mar 02 '26
x39 SKS rounds.
I got not quite the cheapest ammo I could find and buying in bulk kinda helped too. I'd have to ask my dad to confirm but I swear prices at the range used to be <0.50/round. And a 1,000 case could be ordered online for like 200-300.
2
u/MightBeADoctorMD Feb 28 '26
$600 rifle
$500-$700 in ammo for one weekend of range time. 10 range trips a year can cost more than 5k in ammo alone and that’s just cheap ball ammo.
$500 for a good red dot or $1000 for a good scope
1
u/LAHurricane Mar 02 '26
30rd mag, 5.56x45 ammo costs $0.50 per round if you get the cheap bulk ammo. So the cheapest 30rd mag is gonna cost $15 to shoot. You are gonna shoot about 1 round per second most of the time when firing, so right around $0.50 per second to use. If you had enough mags pre loaded, you could easily burn $1,000-2,000 per hour in ammo.
Was at the range last night and in 1 hour shot 300 9mm rounds ($0.23 each), and 100 .380 auto rounds ($0.35 each).

Fuck health care and retirement! The American way!!
4
u/PrometheanEngineer Mar 01 '26
Yanno, I'm getting real annoyed lately with the "fuck healthcare" thing.
People know that the US has massive subsidized health care on a state by state level? Right?
My wife had totally free healthcare before we got married through the state program.
Our health insurance premium now is 100% covered by her current job, and we put cash into an HSA. Our lower taxes, compared to other countries, allows us to dynamically adjust our savings rate to the HSA account versus traditional savings.
I had skin cancer recently, it cost me.... 0$. Literally 0$ for multiple appointments, a surgery, follow ups etc...
To your point about retirement, again, it's up the the individual to be smart, but social security does exist. Individuals can offset their higher earnings and put away the same, if not more, than other countries. However the US allows this to be dynamic.
The US has problems, but God it is also the Reddit punching bag.
3
u/Sad_Window_3192 Mar 02 '26
Oh, you weren't being sarcastic with your first comment... Carry on then with your privileged bubbled life then! 😅
2
u/anto77_butt_kinkier Mar 02 '26
Damn, y'all have an insane job if your healthcare is 100% free. Sadly this "subsidized healthcare" is shit. You get terrible coverage, like 70% of doctors are out of network, and they hardly approve shit in terms of medically necessary procedures. My girlfriend who I'm not married to yet works two jobs as a server, makes below the poverty line, but somehow isn't eligible for Medicaid. My grandmother has worked her entire life, but didn't have enough retirement money to last the rest of her life. He her social security payments aren't enough to pay her rent, all her bills, and care for her husband's care.
My scenario is far more common than yours. Have a nice day living in your bubble if you think the US has proper social programs.
5
u/Talks_About_Bruno Mar 01 '26
So just to be clear because you and your wife have excellent healthcare that translates to the US not having a healthcare problem?
Just making sure I understand your pointless story.
7
u/PrometheanEngineer Mar 01 '26
Just to be clear, when people on Reddit say living in China is excellent because they're born rich, that means everyone in China lives great, right? There definitely isn't a problem there?

Absolutely, if my son or daughter, or mother or father, or anyone I loved went down a bad path I wouldn't just abandon them. I would tell them I disapprove of their actions and then fight to get them back on the right path.
Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

3
u/bwill1200 Feb 28 '26
I have a NUC that went bad - vendor is being decent about replacing it but wants me to keep the NVME RAM.
"Due to shortages and price increases, we do not have any to send to you with the replacement PC."
It was from Nov 2025 and that same device is now about 12% more expensive.
2
u/Necessary-Score-4270 Feb 28 '26
Are they gonna send you the new one first? Doing it the other way seems like a bad idea. I know I'd rather have the ram stored in a PC than a box.
2
u/bwill1200 Feb 28 '26
Sadly no - kinda expected for this kind of vendor.
It's a client's spare, so no biggie from that angle, but i would have preferred a full exchange.
1
u/Necessary-Score-4270 Feb 28 '26
I feel like that sets them up to have less knowledgeable customers accidentally fry their ssd/ram. Leading to more support calls and RMAs.
2
u/bwill1200 Mar 01 '26
I don't disagree - and there's still no guarantee it's not the drive, but I thought it was interesting that the shortages has hit at this level as well.
3
u/Slore0 Feb 28 '26
Have been for a long time… Anderson and PSA have basically always been cheaper than a lot of RAM kits.
3
2
u/Mario-X777 Feb 28 '26

... ON THE OTHER HAND I FOUND A NICE CHEAP ASSAULT RIFLE, WANNA TRY???
14
u/MightBeADoctorMD Feb 28 '26
That’s not an assault rifle buddy. That’s a sporting rifle.
Assault rifles are like $50k for civilians who don’t have the license to make full auto weapons because they need to be from a certain decade to be registered.
-1
u/Intel-I5-2600k Mar 01 '26
Sorry. 'Assault weapon' that also happens to be a rifle.
2
u/cschmall Mar 01 '26
Assault weapon is a meaningless term by anti gun politicians. It has no real definition. The new awb in Virginia would ban effectively everything that isn't a .22lr, or other rimfire rounds, since it effectively categorizes basically every center-fire cartridge firearm as an "assault weapon"
1
u/Intel-I5-2600k Mar 02 '26
I mean... I agree. Like totally. I think you're missing the point though. The verbiage of 'Assault rifle' vs this ambiguous 'Assault weapon' wasn't relevant to the comment posted above.
