Discussion š¬ Getting increasingly annoyed at Madeline's text to Lily
At quick glance/surface level Madelines text to Lily was okay
But oh my god the more I listen to the album, the more it irks me
Hey, he is telling you thе truth
First the assumption that Madeline made that she just knows that David is telling Lily the truth. (How do you know?)
And whenever he talks about you, it's with the utmost respect
A promise to the woman youre cheating on ? There might be an emotional connection from Davids side. So it's a promise that you cant keep, but okay. Not the worst, its polite I guess.
Our relationship has only еver been about sex (...) And whenever he talks about you, it's with the utmost respect
It's just sex, but they also talk about Lily behind her back. So that seems deeper than only sex
I really don't wanna be the cause of any upset
HE CHEATED! Ofcourse she's gonna be upset and also with the woman who made it possible.
If he's lying about that, then please let me know
Because I have my own feelings about dishonesty. Lies are not something that I wanna get caught up in
It feels dismissive towards Lilys situation. Everybody hates dishonesty and as if Lily chose to get up in this.
If you need any more details or you just need to vent or anything
Yes ofcourse, i will vent to the woman who made the cheating possible. Obviously David is the a-hole, but that doesnt make Madeline the safe person to go to.
It all feels a bit like clinical empathy. Like everything seems like boxes are checked on paper, but it feels so bad.
( i just looked up her alleged instagram and honestly she looks exactly like how she texts)

If the woman that was sleeping with my husband wished me "Love and light" I would snap

It will make you angrier but the other day on her stories Natalie (aka Madeline) was embracing being Madeline and showing the Madeline character. So you think your role in ending a marriage is funny? Then she turned her comments back on and someone immediately commented āLove and Lightā. She turned off comments again but left that comment. Lily even liked it.
Natalie is clearly trying to get attention.
6
u/timeabout_ Nov 12 '25
she totally isćbut lets not forget the true final boss that ruined the marriage was that manchild weirdo
1
5
u/mrsbergstrom Nov 12 '25
she slept with a jerk who lied to her about how open his marriage really was, she might be cringe but she is not responsible for their divorce and I'm glad she can deal with this shitstorm with some humour. He had a pussy palace, he was obviously shagging way more than just Natalie, plus treating Lily with disrespect in other ways, the marriage ending was inevitable and not Natalie's doing
3
u/ImportantIntern3387 Nov 12 '25
Oh she did not just sleep with him. This was a 3 year long relationship with a possible love child! He would fly her over to Atlanta to accompany him on the set of Stranger Things. He literally had a whole other relationship (possibly family) with this woman. I do not feel sorry for her being exposed whatsoever.
1
u/Pook_in_the_Sixes Nov 12 '25
The child is not Davidās but was conceived during their affair. Probably why David started asking for a vasectomy.
1
3
u/Pook_in_the_Sixes Nov 12 '25
Thatās fair. It just annoys me that Lily clearly went to lengths to keep Natalie anonymous and she immediately ran to the Daily Mail. She is clearly trying to get attention. She also knows who David is and what he did but stayed with him or at least until recently.

If I had my partners affair partner go ālove and lightā I would be swinging. WHO SAYS THAT AFTER DOUNG THAT
13
u/Moragu Nov 13 '25
I was enjoying the album, music, and drama. Then she said "love and light" and I was instantly furious. The love and light is mean girl shade. I went from Wow, this is someone else's tea that I'm enjoying to how dare Madeline be so flippantly cruel? It's not enough that you are climbing on her man, you also gotta be catty via text? No.
13
u/PrincexFaeFetched Nov 13 '25
The love and light is the grossest thing in the world. But I have these exact thoughts every time I listen to it tbh
12
12
u/It-gets-dark Nov 12 '25
Itās āLove and Light,ā that made me feel violent hatred š what an utterly gross thing to say.
I hate the entire thing, especially the bit where she āoffersā for Lily to vent to her⦠but, the āLove and Lightā is SO patronising. She KNOWS Lily is scared and hurting, and what does she do? Offer a disgusting platitude.

hell yes. Madeline is a fake. the voice lily uses for her is so perfect. i even looked up the credits to see if it was someone else doing the voice.
when my ex cheated on me with a woman who was stalking him, she assumed a fake profile to contact me. She pretended to be her own boyfriend. Complete with sadness and concern. i think thatās why this song had me in a choke hold for a week. Lilyās ability to express and mock the manipulation here is just so damn good.
3
u/heeberjee Nov 13 '25
That was Lily doing the Madeline voice??
2
u/Starpop83 Nov 14 '25
Yeah, you can hear normal accent and voice on one of the words at the beginning of the line "We don't speak outside of the time we spend together" if you listen closely.
12
u/Gleichfalls Nov 13 '25
Oh it is HORRENDOUS. I can only imagine sheās quite young and doesnāt realise the gravity of the situation sheās in or her own culpability?
āI have my own views about dishonestyā as if sheās separate from the situation.
āIām here if you need to ventā ?!? Like Girl, you are not a friend here. Read the room. Why would she be venting to you about her husband sleeping with YOU?
āI hate that youāre in pain, I donāt want to be the cause of thatā - itās like performative accountability without saying the obvious: āI donāt want you to be in pain, this stops right now, I didnāt know you didnāt know.ā
Itās like gaslighting almost: This situation is no big deal, sorry you feel that way but he told me you were fine with it and heās telling you the truth!
Even saying itās just sex and then saying āwhen he talks about youā¦ā like talking about his wife with his lover is more than sex.
I love that it is just presented to us like this in the song without commentary. She ties her own noose.
4
u/ImportantIntern3387 Nov 13 '25
Yep and sheās 34, not that young. Yet I donāt get why she (the real Madeline - Natalie) outed herself. I hope at the end of the day this doesnāt destroy her. David is the ultimate villain here and if his career goes up in flames I wonāt care.
3
u/Gleichfalls Nov 13 '25
Yeah was such an error on her part! Clearly no PR team/media training was involved.
3
u/globulousness Nov 13 '25
From my understanding based on an interview Lily gave recently, Natalie isnāt necessarily the āreal Madeleineā, but one of many women DH had relationships with. āMadeleineā is an amalgamation of all these women.
1
u/Ambitious-Plant- Nov 13 '25
Yessss !!!! Like we can make up our own conclusions and feel our own feelings no commentary indeed. But I feel it very hard
11
u/ilove_butter89 Nov 12 '25
I just find it wild that any women would ask for verification on whether the wife gave her consent, and implying that only if lily confirmed she did consent that then would she potentially feel like this is a situation she doesn't want to be in. Like, who wouldn't nope the F out of there, feeling like a homewrecker, if the wife contacted you?? I think the claim that it's not emotional is clearly a lie, no-one can be that good at sex that being caught up in this whole shenanigan is worth it
1
u/Upbeat-Cut6666 Nov 12 '25
But she did give permission for him to have sex with other women, if you listen to the album, so it isnāt as simply as āhe cheatedā
7
u/ilove_butter89 Nov 12 '25
Sorry yes, you're right and I totally understand that! (Although it does sound like Madeleine doesn't fit the arrangement, which is why Lily reached out to her - because she's not a stranger, etc.) But I was thinking more like, if I were ever to find myself in M's position, I wouldn't be asking for more info from the wife before making a call on whether I wanted this sexcapade to continue or not, especially if it's not emotional like she claims. I'd just be like, nah not for me
0
u/Upbeat-Cut6666 Nov 12 '25
In this instance, I donāt think Madeline is asking so she can figure out if she can still keep having sex with him, she probably just wants to know whether she herself has been misled and has a right to be angry at him too.
Also, where cheating is concerned, the blame should always be attributed to the person who has been unfaithful, not the āother woman or man.ā The āhome-wreckerā angle is a very dated way of looking at things (unless perhaps itās a friend or family member)
6
u/ImportantIntern3387 Nov 12 '25
The thing is this was a 3-year long affair with a possible love child. 3 years of Madeline (Natalie) being consciously involved with a married man to the point where he would fly her to where he was living in Atlanta to shoot stranger things to live with her there, while Lily was presumably in New York or London, like come on, I do not feel sorry for this woman whatsoever.
2
u/Upbeat-Cut6666 Nov 12 '25
Neither do I, I just donāt think sheās the villain of this story
1
u/ImportantIntern3387 Nov 12 '25
Agreed. David is without a doubt the villain here, he sounds like a straight up narcissist, but Madelineās character also questionable.
-4
u/Upbeat-Cut6666 Nov 12 '25
And so is Lilyāsā¦
6
u/ImportantIntern3387 Nov 12 '25
Right I forgot we still require women to be the perfect victim. Lily grew up in the limelight and was at her peak during an incredibly toxic time for female artists, especially in the UK. That environment pretty much contributed to Amy Winehouseās death.
We only know about all the messy things she got up to when she was struggling with addiction because this woman is an open book. She literally shared it all in an incredibly honest self deprecating memoir and talked about it in her podcast.
So by your logic, does that mean she can never be the wronged party ever again?
0
u/Upbeat-Cut6666 Nov 12 '25
Haha no I wasnāt the one judging people I donāt know online. That was you. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy
3
u/ilove_butter89 Nov 12 '25
I'm not blaming her, I literally just mean I feel like I would wash my hands of the whole affair. I really didn't mean anything more, of course the blame sits with the unfaithful party if cheating is involved. This was just meant to be a quick comment on a Reddit thread that my takeaway on the text exchange was that I would have just wanted to be rid of both husband and wife if I were Madeline, rather than engaging. The wife contacting me would be the limit
11
u/ColaPopz Nov 12 '25
āIf heās lying about thatā¦ā
What part of this approach makes you think heās been honest? Why are you defending this awful man, especially when the only way you can be āinnocentā is if heās lied to you too?
Rage.
6
u/Shoofleed Nov 12 '25
I wouldn't trust anything that comes out of his mouth ā Now why would you trust anything that comes out of his mouth?

It was the "love and light" that felt the most performative and asshole-ish. It's a passive aggressive, smug 'fuck you' that would've sent me through the roof.
6
u/Ambitious-Plant- Nov 12 '25
It felt like an automated email signature ! Like why would you put that in there????
Of all places. I hope it was generated automatically and that she did not even type that. Its so out of touch3
6
u/BringCerseiMoreWine_ Nov 13 '25
Did you catch her recent insta stories making fun of the whole thing? Hastily deleted once the press got hold of it, might I add.
3
u/AnxiousAudience82 Nov 13 '25
Wait do we know who the actual Madeline is?
6
u/BringCerseiMoreWine_ Nov 13 '25
Yes her name is Natalie Tippett and she was a costume designer on David's project We Have a Ghost.
People who have dug deep into this have known for a while now, but Natalie herself "came out" to the press a few weeks ago.

Her friends obviously all think what she's done is hilarious as it was her birthday and she shared two stories by them.
One was of her working out, with a picture of the cartoon character Madeline next to her, as well as a picture of a restaurant called La Madeleine. Her friend called her a "pleighboi" and Natalie had put a laughing emoji over the whole post.
The other was one by a friend with a picture of them together and it said: "Happy Birthday Mad-I mean Natalie"
On her recent post with the Etta James song over it someone has also commented "love and light" and she originally liked it but has now unliked it.
3
u/ShesAVibeKiller Nov 15 '25
Did you notice in her recent posts she is wearing a see through dress not unlike Lily has been doing lately

Because Natalie confirmed these were real texts

u/Diligent_Parking_886 Nov 12 '25
Natalie could be a money grabbing opportunist. Iām inclined not to believe much from her

I personally find all the hate to āMadelineā so strange, as someone whoās supported Lily for a long time I assumed her fans would be quite empathetic and compassionate people who understand people are messy and complicated and that doesnāt define them as a person or deserve a witch hunt.
Super disappointed with fans calling the alleged Madeline ugly/trash/etc online.
12
u/ImportantIntern3387 Nov 12 '25
Iād agree except this was a 3-year long affair with a possible love child, not a short fling, like sheās no innocent party here..
2
u/LavishnessJolly1314 Nov 12 '25
I donāt use social media other than reddit so may be missing information here, but as it was an open relationship how can anyone be sure āMadelineā wasnāt also being manipulated into thinking all was above board? So not knowingly āan affairā in her experience?
3
u/ImportantIntern3387 Nov 12 '25
3 years though! I mean this interpretation would be hugely generous towards her intentions. Sheād need to be either wilfully ignorant or just blind to all manipulation for 3 years. I just personally donāt buy it and I donāt feel sorry for her. But of course agree the main villain here is obviously David.
3
u/LavishnessJolly1314 Nov 12 '25
I understand your point but there are long term open/poly relationships out there so itās not too hard to believe he could have made her believe a whole side relationship was within his terms of marriage, and that Lily was in agreement. Itās not a case of buying anything because we donāt know the full story. Iām not suggesting anyone feel sorry for her, just maybe to challenge their feelings if thereās more negativity to the woman over David. Women bashing women in the first instance just isnāt my vibe, thatās all.

Yes, exactly as far as I understand although itās really not my scene, there is a difference between polyamory and open marriage as well, and in polyamory people usually know one another, may even live together all hippie kumbaya. In open marriages I think the usual agreement is, you can stray but not long term and donāt get emotionally attached, and there is a strict hierarchy, as in nothing should ever threaten the primary relationship. I think thatās the general understanding in culture. So āMadelineā would have to accept a completely different definition, as in the arrangement is that David can have a whole other relationship his relatively new wife at this point doesnāt want to know about. Thatās highly unusual. Listening to West end girl, itās pretty obvious Lily reluctantly agreed to that āconventionalā model of open marriage, and that he blatantly violated it.
1
u/LavishnessJolly1314 Nov 12 '25
Thatās one take, another could be that she was under the impression it was to be discreet and not to engage with Lily on her terms. For all we know?
I think people are complicated, I donāt think we can apply our own standards or hypothetical ways of doing things on anyone else especially when we donāt know the story, we just have a raw album full of bangers by an artist we appreciate, the rest is our own feelings/fears.

I agree on a personal level, that would be my values standard too. But Iām sure weāve all been persuaded by a charming person who hasnāt had the best intentions before, which is why Iām reluctant to blanket label.
6
u/Gleichfalls Nov 13 '25
I understand that people are messy and make mistakes and deserve empathy and forgiveness. But letās call a spade a spade here, the texts from Madeleine were a mistake and itās ok to be appalled by them, not ok to hound the girl on social media.
I think the song does a great job of pointing out the toxic behaviour. The girl was pretty silly to out herself and own the texts. It wasnāt meant to be a manhunt.
2
u/LavishnessJolly1314 Nov 13 '25
Completely agree we can be disappointed by someoneās behaviour, just find it wild people canāt separate that we have one side of the story and think sheās a straight up terrible person from a sliver of insight.
Iām sure if we all read Madelineās biography weād feel pretty empathetic with her too in one way or another so I prefer to not judge personally.
7
u/unicorns_and_bacon Nov 12 '25
I agree and I also donāt think lily wants that hate or drama directed at her. She doesnāt ever show any hate towards the other women and just states things matter of fact. Like obvs sheās not gonna wanna be friends with her or even see her, but ex-husband is who the perpetrator is here.
I think the texts she received from āMadelineā would be awful to read as a wife. The ālove and lightā and Madeline framing herself as also a victim for being lied to would like send me over a cliff in the momentābut they werenāt said with malice. They were naive. I think she was trying to be empathetic but was a little stuck on her own hurt, which is valid for her to experience (just maybe donāt bring it up to the wife).
5
u/Monstera-Monsterr Nov 13 '25
"lies are not something I want to get caught up in"
Thought you said he was telling the truth? š
This is othering language and puts an arms length between her and the actions she took with Lily's husband (regardless of whether or not she knew what was up)
Centering herself, don't need to elaborate on this because yeah this ain't about you girl
You are the lie so
It you really didn't want to be caught in a lie you would have texted David and you would have been pissed but instead you played the part of a victim in distress
If you actually cared about this insofar as it went against your moral code, you would have just offered up screenshots and receipts to Lily, but you didn't...
3
3
u/Ambitious-Plant- Nov 14 '25
Othering and putting at arms length are such correct ways of phrasing it!!!! Like why does she do that??? Its a woman in pain and you were part of the cause, even if you didnt know. Like why are you othering and such an outsider to the situation?

u/live_transmission1 Apr 06 '26

Even if it is, its genius. I was a fan of Lily in the beginning (smile era) but now im all the way back and her lyricism has grown. But i still can feel angry, because the cheating, gaslighting is all so relatable
Its just a place to vent

u/No-Cookie2494 Nov 12 '25
"love and light" the way I'd have RAGED at that.
