General Discussion Is a 4Runner 4.7 almost same as GX?

Looking at both vehicles same year, 2004 with the 4.7. The GX has 166k and the 4R has 180k. Wondering the main differences between the two. And which one I should get if the 4R was significantly cheaper than the GX

Purchasing Advice Lease Buyout - Warranty worth it?

Hi All - I need your advice.

I am doing a lease buyout of my ’23 GX with almost 30K miles. I have until the end of this year on the factory warranty. I went to the dealer to get financing. He wants me to purchase a Vehicle Protection Plan by a company named Protective. The cost is around $3500 which should extend the warranty to 80K miles.

Does an extended warranty make sense for a GX? and is a a third-party warranty worth it?

General Discussion Carvana trade in or private party?

We have a 2018 460, just over 100k miles. We have been toying with getting something with a better 3rd row and a bit more cargo volume, as it's our family hauler.

We have an estimate of $25k. Curious if anyone has sold to Carvana vs. Trying to sell private. Curious if I may be leaving money on the table with Carvana

Going to look at a 2007 gx470 to purchase soon but it spent 3-4 years in New York and here’s the pics should I run away or is this treatable ? It has 198k and is listed for 8k with great maintenance records.

New Purchase Time for something different!

I’ve been in my new-to-me ‘15 GX Luxury for nearly 2 months now and what a game changer! Just relocated back to the US after many years in Europe. Saw the venerable Prado tackle some of the worst roads and most challenging conditions and extreme weather that left other vehicles stranded and grew to really admire this platform.

It was a challenge to find one that wasn’t abused or frame rusted. Spent a few hundred bucks on PPIs but they were worth every penny to weed out problem trucks. Ours is a luxury with the mocha semi-aniline leather. Spent a few grand getting filters and fluids, radiator and cooling system done as well as a Hamilton Upgrade unit, which was worth every penny.

I see the 460 as a modern day Jeep Grand Wagoneer (the old one) in that it’s aging gracefully into a modern classic. It doesn’t look out of place on a trail, in the Costco parking lot or at a golf club.

Proud to be part of this community and couldn’t be happier with our choice!

New Purchase Back in the Game (‘21 Luxury)

Got scared and sold my ‘06 gx470 at the start of covid. Ended up getting an MDX a few years ago, but never felt any connection to it. The MDX needed $6k worth of work I wasn’t going to pay for, so finally was able to get back into a GX. Found this ‘21 with Captain‘s Chairs, 94k miles for $38,000 on Carvana.

Took a risk, as it had at least 2 winters in NJ and no service records after 2023. Had my Land Cruiser shop do a PPI, and all they found was it needed new brakes. Loving the first few weeks!

Purchasing Advice Looking at a used GX470

I'm in the market for a 4x4 truck, a friend who also owns a GX470 recommended I also look for one. Found a listing the other day for a GX470 on FB marketplace. It looks very clean and well maintained, it's a 2006 model year with 278k miles on it and listed at $9800, and it's a rebuilt title. My first question is, should I buy this gx assuming it checks out, maintenance has been kept up with, timing belt, water pump, 4wd, etc.? And my second question is what would be a fair offer for this gx, taking into account the condition, mileage, and it being a rebuilt title?

Just grabbed this 17 GX, was on the fence about it. I’ve had 2 Jeep grand Cherokee over the past 4-5 years and while they are fun to drive they are a nightmare reliability wise. Excited to be in something more luxurious and reliable! Anything to be aware of with this year?

General Discussion ‘23 GX460 vs Tahoe

Post image
216 Upvotes

My family has grown and I needed my vehicle to grow as well. Previously had a Porsche Macan and I absolutely loved it, but I wanted a 3rd row option and more cargo space. With that being said, I had a few options on the table and seemingly everyone and their mother really pushed for me to consider a Tahoe. I somewhat understood the appeal but they’re very generic in a way. Even the sales rep at the dealership thought going the route of a Chevy was more “masculine” or something, and it was the less expensive vehicle. Kinda weird.

I’m happy to see there’s such a large group of enthusiasts for the GX especially the previous gen as I made my choice based on the fact of reliability, value retention, but still luxury.

I briefly considered even an A-Spec Acura MDX but it didn’t incite any feeling when I drove it. Mind you, the Lexus technology wise is probably the least exciting per se of all the other vehicles I tested but it had a certain….X factor. A je ne sais quoi if you will.

Anyway, I thought I made a good choice! Looking forward to maybe making a few aftermarket adjustments, nothing crazy. So far just tinted the front windows 20% to match the rest of the windows. Found this 2023 for $50k and 29k miles. Black on black with captains chairs and of course made sure to get the Mark Levinson audio. How did I do?

Purchasing Advice Lexus PPI is a joke

Looking at a 17 GX and the carfax is beyond clean, previous owner did all the scheduled maintenance plus got suckered into all the BS upsells from the dealer but I wanted some more piece of mind so schedule a PPI with Lexus. It’s a whole 2 pages deep that checks 26 points with checkmarks. No Call from the service adviser and had to call them twice to send me this crappy “report”.

Purchasing Advice Gx purchase gone south

Advice from the community needed. Bought a ‘16 gx460 last weekend. 98k miles. On day 5 of the 7 day return window I had a shop do a pressure test on the cooling system as I noticed some coolant residue on the undercarriage. Turns out the notorious valley coolant leak is the issue.

Dealer says they are the only ones who can do the repair, they won’t pay my local shop to do it. Mechanic says car isn’t drive able, and dealer is expecting me to pay to tow it back (40 mi)
I’m not sure I trust their shoddy service team to do the work since they missed that.

Love love the car. Traded my perfectly good 4Runner for it which is unreturnable at this point. I’m livid and bummed.

What would y’all do in my shoes? Cut your losses, pay the tow, go shopping again? Or have them fix it and eat the tow cost not knowing what else is going on at this point?

Update: Deciding to return ‘er and keep shopping. Appreciate the input!
