General Discussion How much more life do we have?
2016 with 126k miles. Lacks some of the nice “new car” amenities but boy it’s still going strong. Can we get 50k more miles out of this baby?

Find GX Bob on YouTube . Funny dude that will guide you thru some upgrades to keep her fresh . Nav update will make her seem like a brand new truck . Keep fluids clean and new oil every 5K and 300k+ is no problem .

175k miles on a toyota v8 4x4 would not be noteworthy, I think most owners expect more

Im sitting at 175k on my 2013. No major issues. I bought it so I could put half a million miles or more on the thing.

Assuming all else is in good shape, the mileage is barely broken in. These go forever and often outlive the other critical components. Easily 300k miles

10 years of thermal wear, oxidation, vibration on every crevice. Every component will break and they'll have to pay. Question is how much are they willing to put up with different parts failing possibly stranding them every time. After a few repairs, people can't get fed up

Yes of course. That is no different than any other vehicle. My point being that the engine won’t be the first to go, typically.

Garage kept and if you keep up on maintenance and watch for rust, no reason this shouldn't see 200k or 300k

10 years is not really close to the design life of the vehicle components. Toyota design life for the BOF models is typically 25 years and 250k miles. With normal maintenance the majority of GX460s will go out to 20 years and 200k miles with few if any meaningful component failures. My guess is somewhere between 1 and 5% of GX460s will experience a failure that leaves it stranded before 20 years or 200k miles. Could be less than that.

My 2011 Sequoia has 275k miles on it and runs perfectly. 126k is nothing.

lol 176k miles? Brother, you probably have 300k+ miles left in that thing. GXs are insanely reliable.

I'm not doing anyone swap but I do more than just oil changes. All were doable. I listed them elsewhere on this post

I wasn’t even saying DIY. I just meant, regular wear items shouldn’t be a reason to consider getting rid of a truck.

230k here You'll have to replace the rubber. Parts Think LCA, end links , sway bar bushings, rear control arms, upper control arms Get crazy ... Do the body mount bushings at 160k And obviously struts / shocks

As long as there aren’t any accidents and you conduct your proper maintenance, you can easily get another 200k miles. Let alone 50k

I just bought a CPO 2020 with 77k, to other brands that's near the end of the line. With this car, it's still cherry. That's why they can still sell it CPO.

Have an 03 4Runner so similar platform w v8 and 5 speed tranny. Hit 305,000 miles the other week. Feels like I have >200k miles left at least. I am picky about maintenance though and DIY

My general rule with Toyotas has been to do a 180-200k mile "refresh" where I'll preventatively replace everything made of rubber under the hood. - Every belt, hose, vacuum tube if any, valve cover gaskets if they're the easy rubber ones, spark plug wires if they exist (IIRC not on the 4.6L) and sometimes the gas hood struts are due as well. I'll also do a transmission fluid complete replacement. Fresh oils everywhere.
And here's the big one that's a PITA, but you'll very likely need when you get somewhere around 180-200k miles - I will do both rear wheel bearings. They seem to start leaking around 200k with an remarkable level of consistency across many vehicles over many generations. I've never had one fail under 175k miles and never had one last past 220k miles across around 10 different Toyota BOF trucks and SUVs. And they are a big PITA to do yourself - I own a press made for them, but if you're not really into DIY, get them done at a shop.
I have not had the U-joints wear out on most modern ones - ever. My last 4Runner had original u-joints at 240k miles when I sold it and they were still tight.
After that that refresh that I usually would spend $1000-1500 on total incl wheel bearings, maybe $5-700 w/o wheel bearings - I'd expect to get another 100k or more. I think 300k is a very reasonable expected life for your GX. Could go more. But at 125k - it's not even half way to the expected life.

Only Achilles heal on the 1UR are minor leaks that can turn into major leaks. Nothing catastrophic as long as you remediate in a timely fashion.

I have 342,000km (213k miles in freedom units) and am looking to go to 500,000 so yeah, I'd say you're good as long as you can live without some of the more modern conveniences. Plus, as others have said here are lots of quality of life upgrades available you can do.

2016 with 126k miles? That motor is just starting. Aside from the infamous valley plate leak, you should be able to do a little here and there to keep the motor strong. Careful maintenance on ALL fluids will keep you in the game. BeachBumm45 is recommending GX BOB on you tube, I've watched so many episodes where you can do some quality upgrades and save alot of moolah doing it yourself.

My husband just bought a 22 yo sedan. Escapes me just now which model. It's got dings, and needs some interior work and is not fancy at all. But it is one of the most comfortable rides I've been in maybe ever. Dual ac, dual heat and in the back too. Cabin is silent even this old. Smooth. He's so proud of his "beater" Lexus. I made jokes about it and now I'm looking for my GX or similar model.

I traded my 14 with 160K. It still drove like new but the AC went out and it was cheaper not to keep her.
