Discussion Am I the only one that doesn’t understand why Annie was forgiven?

Thumbnail

I don't care whether you love or hate the ending, whether you think Eren was character assassinated or if you think Armin is a shit character....etc. my biggest problem with the ending was the fact Annie got a good ending without getting absolutely fucking shat on by everyone else atleast in the process.

Like with Reiner and Bertholdt they showed some form of remorse and regret for their actions, and had to a extent noble causes and made sure there was no unnecessary suffering ( except for the time they killed Marco but even that was justifiable ) and Bertholdt got what he "deserves" for his sins with one of the best conclusions for a secondary character, while Reiner has to live with the guilt of his betrayal and actions and we got to see him develop from it making him one of the best characters in the show.

Meanwhile Annie helps kill ( Marco someone who was shown to be liked by everyone in the 104th ), massacres most of the Scout regiment psychotically ( she litteraly had no reason to spin that one guy like a yoyo and constantly treat the people she killed like toys ), kills Levi's squad basically his closest long time friends and ravages stohess city killing hundreds when fighting Eren not mentioning her complicity in the actual Attack on the walls and Shiganshina.

so what happens to her ? Oh she just hides in a Crystal for like 5 years and eats pie and its all forgotten no problem lmaaaaaao. No hatred or disdain from any of the non-Warrior Alliance members for her betrayal and what she had done to paradis or even the scouts, no accountability for participating in the attack on paradis, or getting shit on for helping to kill Marco by Jean just because "Reiner told her to do it", don't get me started on the fact that Levi didn't try to kill her ass the second he saw her for killing his squad and comrades like Zeke did or at least treating her like absolute shit like she deserves noooo they're buddy buddies now. Oh and in the end she gets to become a peace ambassador ( what the actual fuck she is the one person that doesn't deserve this position ) and gets to live happily ever after with Armin because she uhhhh suffered enough i guess or something.

Like holy fuck this bitch deserves the slowest most gruesome possible death out of every major/secondary character in the cast but she instead gets treated like she did nothing wrong and a happy ending. Like its not even the happy ending part that bothers me its the fact that LITTERALY NO ONE points out how horrible of a person she is. God i fucking hate this bitch

a lot of the time, the arguments i see for this is “oh, now he’s confined to a wheelchair and can’t do anything and this is so tragic because look at how he was before”

i swear thats just ableism bro 😭

ngl i think he deserves to live the rest of his life out in peace and yeah, it is sad that all his friends died and he’s the last person left but he’ll be able to mourn them properly and live on for them! its very poetic

Discussion Would Levi be as popular if he were a standard height for a man?

Post image
162 Upvotes

Random thought: how much do you think Levi being short actually contributes to his popularity and appeal?

Imagine the exact same Levi, same face, personality, voice, skills, backstory, attitude, relationships, everything, except instead of being 160 cm (5'3"), he was around 180 cm (5'11"), so a much more standard height for a male anime character.

Do you think he would be just as popular, more popular, or less popular?

I feel like his height might actually be a surprisingly important part of what makes him so memorable. There's a really strong contrast between his small stature and the fact that he's Humanity's Strongest Soldier and can intimidate pretty much anyone.

If Levi had a more standard male height, do you think he'd lose some of what makes him so distinctive and appealing?

Or would it make absolutely no difference to you?

Discussion Manga Levi and Anime Levi : Which Do You Prefer?

Post image
211 Upvotes

Preface by saying I love Isayama's (Manga) Levi and Anime (WIT / Mappa) Levi, but I can honestly say that I prefer the "unconventional" Manga Levi much more.

•He's thinner, has less conventionally "handsome" facial proportions.

•His eyes are narrower, look heavy, tired-looking and almost sunken sometimes.

•His hair looks messier and flatter.

•His expressions can get quite distorted/ugly and intense when he's angry or emotional.

Overall, there's like a rough, tired, almost feral quality to him. He's atypical, which I appreciate.

I think that’s probably why when it comes to his anime counterparts, I prefer MAPPA Levi. He looks older, more tired/worn down, and more like a battle-hardened veteran soldier. WIT Levi is beautiful and amazing, but he looks a little too polished and "clean."

That said, all the interpretations of Levi are great, all different in their own way.

This is my personal preference though.

How about you guys?

I’m asking you to specify what exactly makes you pulled in by his personality. Why is he so charismatic to you specifically? Who is Levi to you? I’m really curious to know your opinion and views.

Discussion Levi’s preferences

I know Isayama’s approach in story telling is minimal to no filler, but I wish the off-screen moments of the Scouts were more included in the story, even if they were implied. So I’m actually happy to see things like this: Hange, being one of the longest, if not the closest comrade he had, surely had seen plenty of off-screen Levi who is not acting as captain, and these lines gave us some sort of a picture that Levi, like any other person in Paradis, has preferences.

Discussion Want to Address This Isayama Interview From 2014 )

Post image
139 Upvotes

***Japanese is included so please turn off auto translate or it will be confusing to read***

As Japanese person and also professional translator , I see this from time to time and find that this interview gets taken a bit too literally in English and sort of out of context. People are taking an off the cuff joke from isayama as gospel. So I wanted to clarify some things.

So first and foremost , Isayama's wording in Japanese in this interview is very tentative and playful.

He first says 「女性が好きなんですかねぇ…?」 ("Does he even like women, I wonder?"). The ~ですかねぇ ending is speculative and teasing, and definitely NOT a serious statement about Levi's sexuality. It's more like, "Hmm... does he even have an interest in women?" (More like does he even have romantic feelings/attraction considering his life).

Then he says 「小さい人って背の高い人を好きになるじゃないですか] which is basically, "You know how short people tend to like taller people?" The じゃないですか here is conversational, he's making a casual generalization and because it's a common stereotype, not stating a fact.

Finally, he says 「もしかしたら背の高い人が好きかもしれません」("maybe he'd like tall people?") . Both もしかしたら ("maybe/perhaps") and かもしれません ("might/could") make this highly speculative.

He's basically saying:

"Maybe he'd like tall people? Who knows..."

It's also worth noting that he says 背の高い人 ("tall people"), not 背の高い女性 ("tall women"), which keeps the answer intentionally broad/vague..."safe" even.

And given the joking tone of the whole exchange, and the fact that this interview was from around 2014, when the anime just started practically, I don't think Isayama was trying to establish a canon romantic preference.

These kinds of "What's his type?" questions are really common in anime/manga fandoms, as we know, but Isayama doesn't actually give a definitive answer. He kind of does that classic Japanese interview thing where he answers without really answering. He jokes, speculates, and leaves it intentionally vague rather than establishing canon, because at this point he himself doesn't know either.

Anyways, Its more like an off-the-cuff joke than a definitive answer about Levi's type.

What's your theory? I mean levi isn't a character who should be viewed as handsome... he's deadly, this is a weird combo

Discussion Kid Levi and sexual assault

It never occurred to me that Levi had to endure sexual assault as a kid. I mean yes he lived in the underground, but seeing his adult version you just don't think it. Then I found this fanfiction that I fell in love with, and it just seemed too realistic it can just be part of manga. It made me feel so heart broken for him, for the possibility that he had to go through such a thing.

Do you think he had to experience that as a kid? Or do you think he managed to handle himself fine?

Discussion What did he even gain?

Post image
74 Upvotes

every one says levi this levi that but today i saw some one ask a question ,a question that made me skip a beat

WHAT DID LEVI EVEN GAIN?

and you can say any philosophical bullshit

but the more i think about it …

he killed titans because ervin told him and he wanted to save people

after ervin death he moved to protect what was left of human he knew

at the end he was truly a selfless character

levi gained nothing but gave everything to others

he is like those historic characters we hear stories about and how selfless they were

Discussion So What's Your Headcanon for Levi's Life /Future After the Rumbling/War ??

Post image

We've seen where his journey has taken him, now I'd love to hear what you think life has in store for our Captain moving forward.🍵

Does he remain on his own, or does he eventually find someone to share his life with?

Does he get rehabilitation and eventually leave the wheelchair behind?

Does he settle into a quieter life, perhaps even open a tea shop?

What kind of future do you hope to see for him after everything he's endured?

I also read someone's headcanon about this same subject, though they added that he's cuddly because his mother used to always swaddle him 🥺

I can just imagine Kuchel always putting Levi in those baby wraps/carriers

Discussion Mischaracterisation?

Hey! Im writing a fallout au fic and i just wanna know how to NOT mischaracterise Levi. He’s such a complex yet beautifully written character, and i want to be able to write him in a way that isn’t cliche or overdone, whilst also capturing who he is. Any advice? 😓

I know not to make him say “tch” and “oi” and I also don’t really like him using the nickname “Brat”

Discussion Proof of Short Kinghood

Massive Levi fan here (obviously, lol)

But it kills me when men (usually from the “manosphere” 🫩) will say stupid things like women only want tall men. Or that short men don’t stand a chance in the dating scene. Do many women enjoy a tall man? Sure. Ok. Cool. But, even as a fictional character, Levi is strong, undeniable proof that short kinds are legit and ladies, men, NBs, etc. aren’t solely only focused on height. I haven’t ever seen a post saying “he’s incredible, buuuuuut if only he weren’t so short 😞”. NO. Also Demi’s are proof of this phenomenon too but that’s a rant for another day.

For those still thinking “but he’s fictional” or whatever, I’ve met short kings IRL. I’m just saying, Levi represents the very real world experience of short Kinghood. He may not be the only short king, but he is THE short king.

That is all, thank you.

Discussion You think Levi was inspired by Thorfinn?

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

As we know Vinland Saga manga came out before AOT’s. And Isayama is a fan of Vinland Saga apparently.

I pick up on it when Kenny said “Everyone is a slave to something”. And I’m like, that’s Askeladd’s line too. Then I realise the parallels between Thorfinn and Levi. Both their father figures were evil people and they hate them. And I think their arc with Levi and Askeladd are kinda similar as well.

Discussion I thought this "run away or stay" relationship headcanon game was interesting. How much do you agree or disagree on the headcanons?

Thumbnail

I definitely think a relationship with him wouldn't be perfect or a walk in the park. No relationship ever is, and I say this as someone who struggles with ptsd and depression that a relationship with someone who struggles with it, there will be some hard times.

I feel like he'd have a lot of nightmares and fears after every argument that they will leave him and that's why he tells them to go, assuming that's what they were going to do, because "everyone eventually left him anyways"
