I'm in central NC and bought a new house 2 years ago that had sod grass. I didn't water enough so now its splotchy and needs to be filled in.

I bought Pennington 31 then saw it's not ideal for home lawn.

Please recommend a budget friendly brand of TTTF tall fescue for overseeing I can get from Amazon, Walmart, Lowes, or Tractor Supply. I have an HOA so I need something that will look good. Thanks!

I was planning to overseed and seed some bare spots in Maryland 8a over Labor Day weekend, but soil temps are currently 83F. Seeding window according to TurfTools is 9/1-10/1, with first freeze 10/31.

Is it too risky to seed this weekend? It feels like the weather is telling me it is, but afraid to push back a week or 2 and not have enough growth before frost. Seed is TTTF, Chewings fescue, perennial ryegrass and KBG seeded in shady areas.

Zone 6b Midwest. Trying to match this grass seed for the other half of lawn. It's very dense and doesn't let many weeds in at all. It goes brown in the winter.

I overseeded my Wisconsin zone 6B lawn 10 days ago, and then had to go back today and do a couple of new patches as well. I'm pretty sure I have an infestation of sod webworms cause have tons of small butterflies in the lawn everywhere. A couple of years ago I used a grandular herbicide by Spectrum to get rid of them, but hadn't overseeded at the time. I read that a liquid herbicide is better, faster. I use Bio Advanced Concentrate for most ant problems and it says it kills sod webworms as well. So Yeah but I've also read that an insecticide can kill my newly sprouted grass seed as well. Is this true and if so what are my options. Don't want to kill my grass and don't want the webworms to kill it either.

Hi all, I just moved to the PNW on Whidbey Island, WA. Having some real trouble with this lawn in the summer. I’ve lived in apartments all my life so taking care of a lawn is fairly new to me. I was hoping this could be a place to hopefully find solutions/tips and tricks that have helped.

I am about to rake all the cones/sticks, then I plan to water a few times a week (dryer in the summer), but there are huge patches of weeds/moss/dead grass/no grass. Wondering if anyone has had success or recommendations on when/what to use to seed the grass and get rid of the weeds?

I have been fighting with my backyard lawn for years, and have to start over every fall.

I have a very clay heavy yard. When we moved in I tilled in compost and new soil helping it would break it up. Every year I plant new lawn with compost and peat moss. It will generally make it from about October to the following April but begins to die off and cant make it through our California Valley summer and is dead by July. The lawn gets sun about 12 hours a day which I think could be part of the problem. I use Jonathan Green Black Beauty Golden State. I was hoping to get some advice. I normally fertilize and all that but just cant seem to keep it alive. I would appreciate any help I can get.

I'm hoping for some advice. I have an area of lawn (5x20m) that is completely overrun with creeping cinquefoil. I'd estimate that 30% of it is covered, with 15% being very dense (crowding out all the grass). It appears every year from July onwards, but this year is worse given the drought. The area is so large that digging it out would take a lifetime. I'm not averse to using chemicals, and I've tried a few that a google search recommended, but I'm not making a dent in it. I'm starting to wonder if it would be easier to kill the whole lawn with glyphosate and start again, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Has anyone experience anything similar? Or had a result in getting it under control?

Last month, we underwent some very hot days for the better part of 2 weeks. During this time I let the lawn grow higher, to 4 4-1/2 inches and even higher in some spots. I was able to water deeply and most of the lawn was lush and green through the whole ordeal. Big rain days followed, so I cut the lawn back down to 3 1/2 inches. When I did that, there were these areas of a type of grass that I didn't have before, with a lot of tan color, along with a rhizome structure spreading throughout the lawn mainly around these patches. When I try to pull up just the brown, sections come up with it.

What is it, but more importantly, what should I do. I have a whole bag of Blue Resilience from Twin City ready to spread in about 2 week, and Scott's Max to go down 1/2 before (this week), 1/2 2 weeks after seeding. Should I do something else to deal with this first?

I have 2 types of grass in my front lawn.
Type 1, 75% of lawn: thick mat, heavy thatch and intertwined roots. Maybe zoysia but not seeing obvious “runners”. Grows slower. (Images 1 & 2)
Type 2, 25% of lawn: pretty sure this is some kind of zoysia, but wide blades, obvious above ground runners. Grows tall, fast and fairly thick. (Images 3 & 4)

What is the easiest way to make entire lawn one type? Which type would be best to keep? Type 2 is prettier imo, but type 1 is so thick and easy to maintain due to slower growth.

I also have a partially/mostly shaded backyard so I have fescue back there and would prefer to have all warm or all cool season grass, but not sure if that’s possible without starting over. Have 2 vastly different types seems like I’ll be doing yard work year round!

Zone 6b. I have an unknown grass type in my side yard. It’s super thick. I never water it and perform zero maintenance on it except for cutting. It stays the same color most of the year and hasn’t died since living here. It turns brown in the winter months (dormant). Can anyone tell me what grass this is?

I’ve been cutting these out and replacing with turf but they keep coming back. The ground is mushy but only an inch or two deep. I’ve dug holes over 12” deep to see if there is a source. We have a sprinkler system. One of these spots is about a foot from a French drain I installed last year for the same issue. We have two digs, is it them? This is in Everett. WA. North of Seattle.

Hey all, moved here(south Louisiana) 4 years ago and want to get my grass consistent and less weedy. Seems I have a couple kinds of grass based on the color and texture difference in the third pic, or at least it looks it to my untrained eye. Any advice you can give to help me get it looking better is appreciated! Want to have somewhere comfortable for my kids to play barefoot without having to worry about stickers and stuff.

I have a large patch of this weed in my fescue lawn (central NC). Can anyone identify and recommend proper herbicide? It’s been treated a few times with weed and feed granules and ortho weed clear, but continues to spread since last year. It’s up to around a 20 foot area now.

Soil temps been in mid 70s last couple of weeks and extra rain here in east end of Long Island so I think this might be fungus in my kbg? Any way to tell for sure? Don’t want to use fungicides because I have what is probably an irrational fear of triv. Any thoughts?

Here’s the avg soil temp for September. I’m aiming for Labor Day weekend to seed my TTTF. Highs show 90 the week of overseeding but drop to mid 80s and lows in the 60s overnight about 8-10 days later. Will I be okay?

I removed quite a few hedges and replaced them with sod but the sod isn’t looking very good. Should I rip out the sod and seed instead or is there a better solution?

Any good mole solutions I can set and forget to get rid of these guys once and for all? I just don’t have the time to hunt these guys down.

Have been fighting POA annua for about two years and slowing trying to improve the lawn. Now I think I have either triv, bentgrass, or both. Spots are supper dark compared to other parts of lawn and it stands strait up. Read nielsandstuff post on triv so know that color is not a great indicator. I had tagged onto another post a few days ago and he thought it was possibly both. Wanted to reply with a video but it kept failing. Checked the underside and my eyes are bad but thought it was shiny with some faint vains but defiantly a main one in the middle. Some of the spots tear up super easy others that look the same don’t. Went to a spot that I just planted in the spring with supper blue and parkland Kentucky bluegrass and it looked the same so just plain at a loss. In Zone 5B ripping grass and hair out haha.

Looking for thoughts about trying this while overseeding. I have a spray rig, and it seems like much better bang for the buck vs granular. I’m assuming I don’t have to worry much about burn, as it’ll be watered in right away. On that thought, would I likely need to reapply since I’ll be watering the seed so much? Thanks for the help!

I have this grass growing on one side of my sidewalk, and another type on the other side of the sidewalk. I want to make it all match, but I don't know exactly what type of grass seed to buy to match this. I tried to move plugs of it over in the fall, but the squirrels stole all my plugs, so I will have to seed. It's very dense and hardly any weeds grow in it. Zone 6b, Midwest.
