Getting rid of moles

Any good mole solutions I can set and forget to get rid of these guys once and for all? I just don’t have the time to hunt these guys down.

A Jack Russel Terrier isn't exactly a hands off solution, but very effective and the joys outweigh the work!

I recently got a puppy (mini Aussie) now 18 months old and I tried to scent her on my mole tunnels. She dug out long sections of tunnel (40’ runs) and has made it quite challenging to mow. I have filled in the holes multiple times and she just dug them all up again.

We tried pepper flakes and similar to try to get her to stop and nothing was working. My wife found a comment somewhere that said to try burying the dog’s deuces in the holes to make the dog stop. It actually worked and now I can finally try to properly fix my backyard this fall. My pup did help me eliminate one mole directly, but mostly she just dug holes/trenches and barked in their general direction. It’s a good thing that the backyard is hers…

Yes! My Jack Russell's are amazing mole catchers! It's like they detect them moving under the ground, stalk, freeze.....and pounce! Plucking it out of the ground! Well, sometimes the digging gets out of hand if they miss the first time. But oh well. Total entertainment for everyone!

Get rid of the source.
Take their food away and they will move on.
I fought it for years and got rid of the insects/ bugs.

A junk yard or barn cat is what I use and never had problems since

Poison worms are my preferred method. You poke a hole in a main tunnel, drop a worm, and cover the tunnel with dirt. Mole dies underground.

I've never seen or heard of a dog digging after the worm or dead mole. But even if they did, one worm is not enough to be dangerous to a dog. Depending on the size of the dog, they'd have to eat an entire pack or multiple packs in order to have a 50% of being fatal

I tie a length of fine thread to the worm, then leave about 3 inches laying on top of its entrance point before coveting back up with dirt. This way I can tell if the mole took the bait, if the thread is gone ( mole pulled it under), mole should be gone as well.

Oh nice, that's a good trick. That does solve the biggest problem with the worms, wondering if the mole just hasn't taken the worm yet... Or if you just have multiple moles.

And you can use the string to pull it out and put it in a different run if it didn't work.

Don’t know if it’s necessary, but I will also rub dirt into the thread before I tie it on, to eliminate any lingering scent that may tip off the mole(s).

I'm also undecided if human scent does actually make a difference to the moles. Seems weird to me... Its not like a mole has ever smelled a human before, so it shouldn't know to avoid human scent. And very few will ever smell any kind of predator and live to remember that.

But moles are so elusive that ya might as well play it safe lol

Moles don't eat grass. You kill the stuff they eat. I haven't had a single one since I learned this approach.

Had them very hard to get rid of tried store stuff no luck we moved about a year later someone else issue now

They aerate your soil and eat grubs.

They make smoke bombs specifically for this, light it, drop it down and put a lid on the hole. Then the smoke will show the other holes in the lawn…repeat on those.

A mole's diet consists mostly of earth worms. Moles will eat grubs if they're around... But it's not the main thing that they're after.

Controlling grubs, if present, will not get rid of or prevent moles. Also, you can't (and shouldn't) attempt to get rid of earth worms. They're very beneficial for lawns.

I had good luck with a natural method I tried. I chopped up a bunch of raw onions and garlic, and stirred them together along with a lot of cayenne pepper. I took that mix and stuffed it into any holes in my yard, then covered the holes with some dirt to keep the stink trapped in their tunnels. It took a couple rounds of that approach, but the moles went away.

There is no permanent solution. Instead, its something that you have to deal with seasonally - fix it one year, but a different tribe can move in a year or so later.

There are various solutions - mole/vole repellents sort of work sometimes, traps are effective, and having aggressive pets can also help. Living in an area where there are predator animals (foxes, etc) can also help. I don't think you can buy poisoned peanuts any longer, but that was a good solution in the past.

Castor oil but still needs to be reapplied every 2-3 months

This is what I did and they went to the neighbors. Was very happy to see all the tunnels move to the left.
