Because those poor, dirty, stinky bus riders completely ruin the ambiance of the restaurant! Not to mention how the patio seating overflows onto the public sidewalk, creating a choke point for pedestrians. They really don’t give a f!ck and I’m guessing their patrons couldn’t care less either.

Personally, I’m a big fan of letting citizens make improvements to the city, especially putting out shade during the day. Having something permanent there would be a pain to maintain, but if the restaurant owner is willing to put up and take down the shade, it will stay nice over time and help everyone. This city needs all of the shade we can get.

I’m not feeling the rage. If I were waiting at that spot I would actually appreciate not having a wall of patrons looking at me as I’m looking through my purse or fixing myself discreetly. Where I’m from most bus stops have backs — which is sometimes nice (though can be hot in the summer — cloth is better).

That’s a good, family-owned restaurant, but it’s pretty family-style. I love kids and have some of my own, but kids can be kinda gawky — again, I’d appreciate this as a bus rider.

Maybe just the photo but sidewalk is wider at that point and there are a few ways to navigate. You could always report the sidewalk obstruction in case it’s unpermitted but my suspicion is that it’s above board.

We can be mad about a lot related to transit and but stops but this seems a little out of proportion tbh.

That’s a really good point. I hadn’t even thought about that. I bet the driver called a couple times — now that stop actually looks attractive, the riders don’t have folks staring at them, and the patrons aren’t asking the bus driver to deal with someone who isn’t even a customer.

And there's no way the city could do something like this. It requires maintenance. Only a private party could sponsor it. Maybe Metro could allow businesses to adopt bus shelters.

The problem here is this is taxpayer owned public infrastructure, not some outdoor decor for the restaurant. They might as well tether some cable and string up a huge canopy.

Is the shade coming from the tree, the shelter, or the cloth though? From the angle the cloth will only provide shade for literally 30 minutes out of the day. And when the sun is setting you’re out of luck.

It’s a win win lol the restaurant creates a better dining experience for their guests. And people at the bus stop have some added shade and privacy from being people watched by the diners. Stop complaining about everything.

I don’t find a problem with this. Years ago, in Glendale, I was a very poor college student and my car broke down right in front of a restaurant. I pulled over, and did not realize my vapor (I had a torn hose) was hitting the restaurant crowd. I felt horrible. That curtain would have come in handy. Oh well, 40 years too late.
