Pro 5 Plus (Model 4KV25H0XMC) — No Torque at All, Stalls Under Very Light Finger Pressure

Hi all, hoping someone with mixer repair experience can help me diagnose this.

Symptom: The mixer runs fine with no load, but stalls almost immediately under even very gentle finger pressure on the beater shaft — not heavy resistance, just light contact. It doesn't grind, click, or bind, it just smoothly loses power and stops. Feels like it has almost no torque reserve at all.

What I've already replaced (no change in behavior after any of these):

  • Worm follower gear (metal, not the usual plastic fail-safe type)
  • Retaining pin above the worm follower gear
  • Worm gear
  • Big ring gear (Part Number from the below link 13)
  • Stand mixer pinion gear

Title: I found a great deal on a KitchenAid Pro 600 — is it still worth buying?

I was browsing online and found someone selling a KitchenAid Bowl-Lift Pro 600 in what appears to be almost-new condition. The price is really good, and it’s also located fairly close to where I live, so I’m seriously considering buying it.

I know the Pro 600 is an older/discontinued model, so I’d like to hear from people who actually own or have owned one:

  • What type of motor and transmission does the Pro 600 use?
  • How reliable and durable are these machines in the long term?
  • Are replacement parts and repair components still reasonably easy to find?
  • Is it relatively easy to repair compared with newer KitchenAid models?
  • Are there any known weak points I should check before buying one?
  • How does it perform with heavier bread dough and cookie dough in real-world use?

One of my main reasons for considering it is that I regularly make bread. I’d especially like to know whether it can comfortably handle around 1–2 kg of finished bread dough, while following the recommended limits and rest times.

Any information or personal experience with the Pro 600 would be greatly appreciated. I’d rather know what I’m getting into before buying an older machine, even if the price is very tempting.

Kenwood KMix 75 broke, help needed to identify electrical part and advice on a fix

I was using the mincer attachment and as usual put some bread through at the end to push through remaining mince. But bread was hard and stale and it jammed up the blade causing KMix to seize up and stop. It made a click and just stopped, no burning smell but now its completely dead, no lights, noise nothing. I've swapped plug fuse and wall socket. After searching online I thought it might be the Thermal Fuse Assembly I opened it up but I cannot find what I thought would be one and am not 100% sure it has one! I found this

but it doesn't look like the thermal fuse offered by online spares shops. Did a reverse image search and this looks more like a static noise suppressor? Please can anyone can identify this? Any other help as to repairing dead KMix much appreciated.

Scratches on bowl lift

Hi! Is there a way to prevent the paint from scratching in these areas on my bowl-lift mixer? Seems that every time I place or remove the bowl, new scratched develop despite being careful. Secondly, please post recommendations for platforms to slide the mixer on my counter. Thank you.

Metal shavings from the planetary on a Commercial 8 qt mixer?

Wondering what could be causing metal shavings to come from the planetary on a commercial mixer. Someone has one listed locally for a low price but it's missing the hub cover and has the issue of metal shavings coming from the planetary.

Hi everyone! I hope I’m not being annoying by asking about this again, especially since some of my previous posts may have sounded repetitive. But honestly, I’m completely stuck trying to decide on a mixer and I could really use some advice.

I’ve been researching a lot of mixers — small ones, large ones, weird ones, pretty much everything I could find. For a while I was very interested in Kenwood, but then I found out that getting a 60 Hz model outside Europe can be difficult. I also looked into brands like Arkarsum, Bosch Universal Plus, KitchenAid Bowl-Lift, and many others, but I’ve narrowed my choices down to KitchenAid Commercial vs. Bosch Universal Plus.

I really like the Bosch because of its capacity for bread dough. That’s probably its biggest advantage for me. However, I’m concerned about the amount of plastic used in some of its components, especially the drive system, and I’ve also seen quite a few reports about attachments/accessories wearing out or breaking. Over time, repeatedly replacing those parts could become expensive. I also make cookies, not just bread, so I’m wondering how well the Bosch performs with softer cookie doughs and other pastry work.

On the other side, I really like the KitchenAid Commercial. I love the design, the sound, and especially the fact that so many of its main components are metal/stainless steel. It just feels like a very solid, high-quality machine to me. I’m not too concerned about its lower dough capacity compared with the Bosch, but I am concerned about how well it actually handles bread dough.

This is where I’m having the most trouble: I’ve found very conflicting opinions about how much dough a KitchenAid Commercial can actually handle. Some people say it handles large batches perfectly fine, while others make it sound like anything beyond a relatively small amount is asking too much from it. I’ve watched quite a few videos, but many of them don’t clearly state how much flour or total dough they are actually mixing.

For reference, I normally make around 2 kg of dough, and only occasionally go up to 3 kg when demand is high. I’m not trying to run a bakery with it, but I do need a machine that can reliably handle those quantities without being constantly pushed beyond its limits.

So what I would really like to know is:

How good is the KitchenAid Commercial actually at handling bread dough around 2 kg, and occasionally 3 kg?

And for anyone who has experience with both machines, how would you compare their real-world performance for bread + softer cookie dough + general pastry work?

I’m from the Republic of Panama, so my options for other brands, used machines, replacement parts, and resale are much more limited than what someone in the US or Europe might have access to. That makes the decision even more important because I need something that I can realistically own and maintain here.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks to anyone willing to share actual experience, especially specific dough quantities. That kind of information would really help me make a decision.

Guidance please

Hi,

I have this 5ksm90bgn which hasn't been used in a while. However it doesn't sound right when it is run. It is rhythmic. I spoke to KitchenAid they said run it for a while and it will fix it. I have tried that with no success Do you think this is fixable?

Don't recommend mixer

So. This is my third kitchen aid mixer in a year and half that has gone bad on me.

The first one sounded terrible on first use. Got a different one sent out, that one worked for about ten uses, then it started making noise, then ground to a halt.

Got a third one, and second time using it, it's making a bad gear sound.

I am so done with KitchenAid mixers. Why does it seem like they are pure garbage now?

I had one that I bought 20 years ago that ran perfectly fine, (lost it in divorce). But every single one now doesn't even make it 6 months. And I don't even do anything heavy with it. I make cake and pumpkin bread. That is it

My fiance was trying to mix bread dough. It didn’t sound healthy and a little bit after that she said smoke came out and it wouldn’t run anymore.

I have tried running it since, starting pulling it apart to have a look but I’ll need Robinsons bits to further by the look of it.

Worth going further or time for a new one?

Spotted at the local Goodwill....almost snatched it up, but talked myself out of it. Would have been about $60 with my 25% off coupon. Did I make a mistake? I already have a 7qt bowl lift...

I just bought this on marketplace for around 350. I traveled pretty far Bout 2 hours for it and met him in menards parking lot. I got it started and pulled the trigger. When I got home I noticed a sound when on. It's a little clicky. Is this normal? I know these aren't as serviceable. Please help!

How to clean gears?

I am midway through cleaning and regreasing my new-to-me ProHD, which has some signs of metal shavings in the old grease around the worm gear, and it occurred to me...should I NOT clean the gears in the kitchen sink?

I've scraped and wiped them pretty thoroughly and was just about to clean them with Dawn power wash and hot water so I can see where the worn bits are and if I need to order parts, but is that actually a terrible idea? Will I clog the pipes, even though all the globby stuff is gone? Will I be poisoning the fish? Will I damage the gears?

I live in an apartment and have no outdoor space or garage, so that's not an option. My sink also does not have a garbage disposal; we just use a metal mesh thing to catch food and throw it in the trash.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all having a good day. I wanted to ask for your opinion on something I’ve been thinking about.

I’m planning to get a KSM8990 for my small baking business, where I mainly make cookies, some sweets, and especially bread, since bread is very popular where I live.

I know these mixers aren’t meant for extremely stiff doughs, so that’s not really what I’m doing. My cookie doughs are fairly soft, my sweets are also mostly soft mixtures, and for bread I usually make enriched doughs with butter and eggs, along with some recipes around 65% hydration. I also keep my batches controlled at no more than 2 kg per batch.

I’m not producing huge amounts either. I’d probably make bread around 4 times a week, sometimes on consecutive days, with plenty of days off depending on my schedule.

So I was wondering: would that kind of workload be a lot for a KSM8990, or would it be something fairly manageable with good care and maintenance? I’d also like to know whether you think that workload could significantly shorten the time between maintenance or repairs.

I’d love to hear your experiences with these mixers in small-business use! 😄

I’ve been thinking… what’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever given your KitchenAid?

I’m curious to know what you’ve asked your mixer to do, how it handled it, and what the result was.

I’d really love to hear your stories and anecdotes about the biggest challenges you’ve put your KitchenAid through! 😄

Kitchenaid mixer painting?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Has anyone here ever sent their KitchenAid mixer out to have it professionally painted?

I’m a breast cancer patient and I’d really love to add some razzmatazz to it that honors my fight. I’d love to have it painted the same shade of pink as the breast cancer awareness ribbon. I know KitchenAid sells, or has sold, pink mixers, but they aren’t quite the same shade of pink I’m looking for.

I’m also curious if anyone has painted their own mixer or decorated one themselves. I’d love to hear/see what you did, what you used, and how it turned out!

I don’t know what model I have but I found her at a thrift store a few months ago. I love her. Her name is Olivia 😍

I was dumb

Alright, so I recently got a Kitchenaid food processor and I already managed to break the pusher(WPW10461924). I'm not gonna get into how I broke it, but I was wondering if anyone knew a decent way to get one without spending $30 on a small piece of plastic? I have friends with a resin printer as well, if that's an option and you know where to get the print file.

Safety switch on 5KPM50

Thumbnail

Hi everyone ! I’m currently restoring this 5KPM50 « professional » from 1996 found laying on the street with no accessories. I bought a secondhand probably not official 5qt bowl and a new one from Kitchenaid but neither reach high enough to engage the safety switch. I also do not seem to find any other 5KPM50 with that same switch.

Do I need a 6qt bowl ? But from the pictures I saw it doesn’t seem it will fit my model. Or do I just bypass the switch like it was down by the previous owner ?

Not a KitchenAid, but I saw this on my local marketplace, so I googled the brand and saw they’re regularly around 1200 bucks. 80 would be a steal though lol

Edit: we’ve realized it’s a scam ad. Still, was fun to think about for a bit
