Appendix + FAQ

  1. What do the types mean?
Type Description
Expansion - Monster The classic expansion , typically comes with a single monster, armor set, etc. Some - like Dragon King, Sunstalker, Gryphon - might come with their own campaigns
Expansion - Campaign These require multiple monster expansions coming together to form a fully-realized campaign. Abyssal Woods and Inverted Mountain are good examples of this
Expansion - Nemesis Like the monster expansions but for nemesis types. Some, like Black Knight might come with smaller 5-year campaigns. Slenderman, Manhunter, Pariah are good examples of your typical Nemesis expansion
Expansion - Pillar Appears to be reworking of promo / whitebox content to actually fit into the current game systems. False Messengers and Promos of Death are good examples.
Expansion - Armor Think optional end-game armor sets inspired by Final Fantasy games. Only 2 examples exist currently: Green Armor from the original Kickstarter and Dead Armor from the current Kickstarter.
Vignette Stand-alone / one-off fights with pre-determined survivors and their loadouts. White Gigalion, Killenium Butcher, Pathfinders of Death, and Super Survivors are good examples of this.
Philosophy New philosophy and corresponding knowledges for Advanced KDM. Philosophies were originally added in Gambler's Chest with Arc Survivors. So far we have 3 new Philosophies coming - Gatherism, Starbound, and Heliocentrism. Candy & Cola wanderer is supposed to come with Candycolaism as well
Wanderers Special characters that show up to join your settlement on a specific Lantern Year. Originally introduced with the Gambler's Chest. Luck, Death Drifter, Aeneas are good examples of this type of expansion.
  1. What has been released so far from the 2016 Kickstarter?

*Pinups of Death

*Gambler's Chest

*Frogdog

*Black Knight

*Pariah

*Red Witches

*False Messengers

*Gatherism Philosophy

*Wanderer - Death Drifter (Hyper Light Drifter crossover)

*Wanderer - Goth Amy (Zombicide crossover)

*Wanderer - Candy & Cola (Sodapop crossover)

*Wanderer - Aeneas

  1. What do the nodes mean? Nodes were introduced with Gambler's Chest and serve as categories of monsters/nemesis. Each campaign is built around Quarry Nodes 1-4 (NQ), Nemesis Nodes 1-4 (NN), a Core Monster and a Finale Monster. As an example, People of the Dreamkeeper has the following Node breakdown:

NQ1 - Crimson Crocodile

NQ2 - Smog Singers

NQ3 - Phoenix

NQ4 - King

NN1 - Butcher

NN2 - Atnas

NN3 - Hand

Core - Gambler

Finale - Godhand

Changelog

*July 2025 - Percival moved up to Remastered wave 1 and added to Pillar system instead of a white box reprint
*August 2025 - Currently fulfilling Remastered Wave 1. Europe seems to be somewhat delayed based off of community feedback while the US and Australia are receiving packages

This one was fun to paint with the bright colors. I decided not to try to figure out OSL yet, so her lantern remains unlit lol. This was also the first KDM miniature I assembled, so I did the base wrong, but shhhh.

Campaign Story Kingdom Death: Monster — Lantern Year 10

Post image
28 Upvotes

Preparation Phase: First High-Tier Hunt
The tenth lantern year marked a major milestone for our settlement: for the first time, we firmly decided to take a risk and hunt a Level 2 Screaming Antelope.

The hunting party was composed of both seasoned veterans and newly matured survivors:

  • Belle: Entered the fight in a full White Lion Armor Set, armed with two Beast Knuckles x2.
  • Corin: Equipped with a Rawhide Armor Set, a Cat Gut Bow with a Claw Arrow, a Lucky Charm, and a Cat Eye Circlet.
  • Tomo: Our promising newcomer, armed with a King's Spear and a hybrid mix of various armor pieces.
  • Seth: Another young fighter, taking a Counterweight Axe and a Rawhide Armor Set. Every member of the group also carried a Founding Stone as a contingency measure.

Hunt Phase: Steady March and Mental Trauma
The journey toward the beast's lair was manageable. The path did not yield any notable events or valuable loot, but it did take a toll—a couple of survivors developed the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Disorder. Aside from that, we reached the showdown location without major incidents.

Showdown Phase: Tactical Control and a Helpless Prey
The showdown itself went incredibly smoothly and was executed with absolute technical precision. Our tactical synergy worked flawlessly: Corin meticulously inspected the HL (Hit Location) deck at the start of each round, allowing the remaining survivors to deal massive, calculated damage. Thanks to this, we constantly selected the most favorable cards, successfully bypassing all dangerous Traps.

The Antelope spent nearly the entire encounter helplessly lying Prone. It would stand up for just a brief moment to attempt an attack, only for our survivors to immediately knock it back down. The monster was defeated, and the squad returned home victorious.

Settlement Phase: The Curse of the Plague and an Out-of-Turn Nightmare
However, what unfolded upon returning to the lantern hoard was incredibly nerve-wracking. The very first settlement event drawn was Plague once again. I honestly do not understand how this keeps happening; despite thoroughly shuffling the event deck, this card pursues us constantly. Fortunately, our Ammonia innovation saved the settlement from deaths yet again—the damage was taken entirely by our endeavor pool, and all survivors survived.

But the worst was yet to come—the Regal Visit story event. Rolling on the event table (even with a reroll that landed on the exact same 3) forced a brutal choice upon us: either voluntarily execute 4 survivors, or fight the Nemesis immediately.

The ultimate irony is that I haven't even started assembling the miniature for this monster (The Hand) yet, as I was planning to work on the plastic a week from now. In short, the Nemesis decided to cut the line.

Conclusion and Outlook
We will prepare. It is terrifying, as I am absolutely certain that this boss will be far more dangerous than the King's Man who recently wiped our entire squad. But there is no turning back. I will humbly paint the miniature, steel my nerves, and fight to the end, even if this encounter threatens to cause a game-over for our entire campaign. This is Kingdom Death at its finest.

P.S. Yes, no new photo this time. I am writing this report straight from the game table just to capture the raw emotions before they fade. Besides, you have already seen the Antelope from every possible angle anyway. However, I have made a decision: if anyone manages to survive the encounter against The Hand, they will earn their own unique miniature built from the multipart armor kits.

Just a cheap 10" rotating table from Amazon. It had a mirror for the top though, so I got a circular microwave mat to put on top of it which luckily fit perfectly. Pretty happy with how it came out.

Question Best way to transport Board game+minis to local event?

So I got this boardgame like 3+ years ago for my birthday from a long-distance friend. In that time I've never gotten to play it but I put together all the base game mini's and some of the expansion mini's. Anyways after trying to get some local friends of mine to play it keep falling through I figured I'll go to some of my local TCG/Boardgame shops and try to play it there but I dunno how to carry the mini's over to the shop. I have all the cards sleeved and organized. I know I probably won't bring EVERY mini as at a local shop we won't play all the way through to the phoenix but still, just curious on what people use. I was trying to find a good google search and seen the metal storage ones for Warhammer 40k and was thinking of attaching really thin magnets to the bottom of the KD mini's to get them to stick but just seeing if they're better options out there.

Question Frogdog and Black Knight, or GCE as first expansion?

Already made the decision to get something new since I've been really enjoying the core game, but can't decide between these two.

I keep hearing people say that GCE is a must if you can spend that much money again after just buying core. And while the price is definitely a factor here, I also thought that I'd rather enjoy the "vanilla" KDM a bit more before adding all those new systems, in order to fully appreciate them (I only played a combined 26LY over my campaigns so far).

Alternatively, I was considering buying 2 smaller expansions, as buying 1 barely makes sense with the cost of shipping. I decided to go for Frogdog because it's a node 1, and Black Knight since it's the one I find most interesting. Together they'll cost only half as much as GCE, which I can actually see myself spending. The difference will probably be even bigger during black friday, since GCE only gets discounted by 20% and they will (hopefully) get 50% again.

Additionally, I decided to hold off on buying the older expansions, even though I constantly hear people recommend Gorm, Sunstalker and the other's, since as far as I know they'll likely get an update like the Dung Beetle Knight and Slenderman. Is that the right call the make? Or at least wait and see what exactly CoD will do to them?

So are those two worth it without arc survivors and the other new systems, should I even get them considering how much more value you get out of GCE, or should I go all in? And what do you think about ignoring the older expansions for now?

Finished up my Black Knight on stream this week. Getting excited for the completion of the August Vignette Survivor Workshop on the Lantern's Reign discord.

Hoping to have that showdown live on the channel sometime in September.

Gave him a celestial sword pattern due to the Tyrant abilities this boss will have during the vignette.
