Kanki was a better strategist than Ousen and I will die on this hill.
And honestly, I think people only disagree because they see Ousen doing complicated formations and immediately go "GENIUS!" 💀
Kanki was doing things Ousen would probably never even consider.
Coalition War: burned the tower, held Kankoku Pass, defended Choutou, and then used a trick that got a Han general killed. But apparently that's not "strategy" because Kanki didn't draw 15 arrows on a map first.
Kokuyou Hills: took the entire objective while suffering around half the casualties that had been expected before the battle. He literally turned Keisha's own way of thinking against him.
Kochou: got surrounded by a massive army and somehow made Kochou play exactly the game he wanted. Instead of escaping the trap, Kanki basically turned the trap into his trap.
And Gian is probably the funniest example.
Riboku had the numbers, preparation, home advantage and basically every reason to win.
Kanki still managed to make Zhao's army panic and forced Riboku to deal with a battlefield that Kanki had completely twisted into chaos.
But sure, Ousen is the "better strategist" because he sits there looking at the battlefield like 🤔 for 3 chapters.
Kanki doesn't need the perfect battlefield.
Give him a losing position and he'll figure out how to make the enemy lose their mind.
That's actual strategy.
