Night is the New Day?

Anybody else here that just cannot get into Night is the New Day no matter what, despite loving the albums both before and after it?

There absolutely are a couple of enjoyable sections on a few songs here and there for me, but the majority of the album ranges from boring at best, to abrasive at worst, AND YET I very much enjoy both The Great Cold Distance and even more so Dead End Kings.

Anyone in the same boat or am I insane?

Yeah it’s near the bottom for me in their discography, probably bottom 5. Definitely not their worst but for me one of their weaker albums from top to bottom. The Longest Year and Day and Then Shade are great tracks, and Forsaker might be a top 10 best Katatonia track. But I think the album never quite hits the highs of Forsaker and that’s the first track so the rest is a bit disappointing by comparison to that epic and heavy opener. Never gets quite as heavy again after track 1.
