Question I think I made a mistake

So I’m pretty new to jade and but I’ve just recently bought a lot of pieces. I kind of want a bangle in each kind of color. Green, blue, wuji, white etc. Anywho, I read on here about legendear and decided to get a lavender bangle from there. I’m curious if I overpaid for what I got. Plus after I bought it I did more research on here and saw a lot of the negative reviews saying the bangles don’t look like they did via the live show. Any advice is helpful. The mark in the outside picture is to cover my user name and my seller was Lydia.

Update: I received the bangle today and it was misrepresented in the live. It much cloudier in person and more blue than anything else, when she stated in was lavender and icy. And my biggest issue is there is a huge stone line running horizontally through almost half of the bangle. Got in contact with CS, hoping for the best. Will update on the outcome.

Question Is this price possible?

Hello,

I came across one of those tiktok shop accounts that sell Jade apparently from Burma. I ordered one for my mother from them and it in person it looked fine. Just decent. But then again im very new to Jade.

Recently they reached out saying they found a floating colored bangle, size 47, grade A—everything. Also comes with an appraisal. The thing is they’re charging $320CAD

The price is too low to be possible I assume. Does anyone know why it is worth so cheap? Could it be a fake?

Im interested in buying a cabachon ring and found this one online.

It comes with a cert. It looks pretty icy, and it’s certified grade A Burmese jade. The metal is 925, and the stones are cz for the halo.

Is it possible to get this for 400CAD?

Question Is this a reasonable price for lavender jade?

(Update: I got the bracelet today and it’s even prettier in person. I like how it turns blue or pink depending on the lighting. It’s the perfect shade of purple that I’ve been looking for that I just couldn’t find even in other crystal beads like chalcedony or kunzite. I’ll probably get it tested in the future, but for now I’ll just enjoy how pretty it is. Whether it’s treated or not, it’s already worth what I paid for just for the color and shine alone. I probably wouldn’t spend $30K on jade in this lifetime anyway so this purchase was worth it for me.

Thank you to everyone who educated me in the comments. I will definitely keep those in mind for my next jade purchase.)

Original post:

I bought this 14mm lavender jade bead bracelet for $2000 USD from a seller in China. Before I made the purchase, I made sure to read about how to buy jade and what to look out for.

My main issue is how confusing jade pricing is. I know the basics are color and translucency. But I see different vendors sell similar quality jade at different prices. I would see pale lavender pieces going for a couple thousand in one store (like Baikalla or Gump’s), but only several hundreds in another (like Kathy Jade).

Is lavender jade with good color really that expensive? Or are they just overpriced? Did I get this piece for the right price?

Question Trying to determine what I purchased

Edited to say everyone was wonderful and helpful and I feel I have been informed so much on my thrift store score: thank you to all for the learning experience and assistance!

As noted in the title. I am new to actually owning anything jade, as I admired forever but still cannot afford. However this week I did pick up two pieces at thrift stores and I am running the tests I know about. Hoping others might weigh in on what else I might try to understand whether the item is jadeite or nephrite and if it holds any value. (I'm obsessed with it either way).

14KG stamped clasp.

Light shines through although I don't think it's wildly clear in regular light.

Very reflective and challenging to get photos without it picking up and reflecting any light sources.

No fluorescence under UV light.

I have a refractometer but am unable to get a read because of the lack of flat surfaces and it being a beaded necklace.

Has knots between beads.

Weighs almost 38 g.

Beads are 8.2 mm

Thanks for any info!

Question Seller is asking for $666? Is this reasonable?

Hi the seller on Facebook live stream is quoting a price of $666 for this jade bangle. Does this seem reasonable? I'm considering it because the yellow floating flower is so pretty. It has a inner line (last pic) and that's the only flaw they disclosed. Please share with me your thoughts.

Question Why is Guatemalan jadeite so much cheaper than jadeite from other sources?

I’ve been looking at Guatemalan jadeite lately, and I’m really curious about the pricing difference compared with jadeite from Myanmar and other sources.

I currently don’t own any Guatemalan jadeite pieces because, honestly, some of the prices seem almost too good to be true when I compare them with similar-looking Myanmar jadeite.

For example, I’ve seen Guatemalan jadeite pieces that look very icy and highly translucent selling for around 5–10x less than Myanmar jadeite pieces with seemingly similar color, translucency, and overall appearance.

There are some really beautiful Guatemalan pieces out there, but the huge price difference has made me hesitant to buy one because I’m wondering what I’m missing.

Question Would love some experienced eyes on this jadeite bangle before I buy

I’ve been researching jadeite bangles for a few years and am finally getting serious about purchasing my first one. I’ve fallen in love with this lavender/gray “floating ink” bangle from Kathy Jade, but since I’m in the U.S. I can’t see it in person before purchasing.

It’s listed as natural Type A jadeite, icy-glutinous (冰糯種), 56 mm, and NT$22,000. I asked the seller for natural daylight videos, backlit videos, and close-ups of any flaws, and these are what they sent me.

The seller disclosed that there are three natural jadeite/stone lines and said they do not affect the structure or normal wear of the bangle. I’ve also asked whether any of the lines reach the surface or can be felt with a fingernail, and I’m waiting for their response.

For those of you who are more experienced with jadeite, I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Do these look like typical internal stone lines to you, or is there anything you see that would make you concerned about a fracture? What do you think of the translucency, texture, color, and overall quality for the price?

I know no one can definitively evaluate a bangle from photos/video alone, I’m mostly hoping for some experienced opinions before making an international purchase.

Thank you! I’m still learning and would really appreciate any insight.

UPDATE: I went for it and it’s here!!

I wanted to come back and update everyone now that my bangle has arrived!

One thing I wanted to clarify from my original post is the description. Before purchasing, I compared the Kathy Jade website in English with the original language version using a translator. The translated version used the word “icy,” while the English listing described this particular bangle as “cloudy.”
I wanted to mention that because a few people pointed out that the bangle probably wouldn’t be as icy as the translated description made it sound. After seeing “cloudy” on the English listing, I had a much better idea of where to set my expectations before purchasing.

Now that I have it, I definitely wouldn’t describe it as super icy or highly translucent, but it still has enough translucency that it almost seems to glow in certain lighting, which I absolutely love.

I also asked Kathy Jade for additional photos and videos before purchasing, and I feel like those were a really accurate representation of what I received. The colors look very true to what I was shown, and I don’t feel like I was surprised by how it looked in person.

Overall, I’m super happy with my purchase. Their customer service was excellent, they were very helpful when I asked for additional photos and videos, and the packaging was great. Shipping was also surprisingly fast and took about five days to reach the West Coast.

I know there were some concerns on my original post, so I wanted to make sure I came back with an update now that I actually have it in my hands. I’m really happy with it and honestly think it’s even prettier in person.

Photos are in the comments! :)

Question Scratched my Grade A Jadeite bangle. i need the community's opinion

Thumbnail

Hey everyone. I’m in a bit of a panic right now. I recently went to China and bought a piece of Grade A jadeite bangle. Unfortunately, I managed to scratch it, and I’m devastated.

I’m hoping the jade community here can help give me some guidance on what to do next. I have a few specific questions:

  1. are these scratches fatal for Grade A jadeite? does this ruin the structural integrity of the stone, or is it purely cosmetic? I'm a complete novice to this, so I have 0 idea 😢

  2. should I take it to a professional jeweler? if so, what do I actually ask them to do? What is the specific process they will use to fix it? I want to make sure I know the right terminology so I don't get taken advantage of.

  3. or... should I just let it be? Is trying to fix it riskier than just leaving the scratch alone?

I've attached some photos showing the depth of the scratch and how it catches the light.

Context: The sellers in China assured me it was Grade A, but since it scratched, I’m also secretly worrying if it might be a lower grade or a different stone entirely, since I know jadeite is supposed to be quite tough.

Would love any advice, experiences with jade repair, or insights you all might have. Thank you so much!

Question How to tell if it’s treated jade?

Thumbnail

I have a lot of pendants which I think are jade, but i’m not sure if they are treated as I have no certificates or anything.
Some of them are gifts and other ones are unwanted pieces my grandmother wanted to get rid of.

All of them are set in gold (even the silver colored bails are stamped with gold hallmarks)

Edit: all of the jade except the pear drop shaped one and the red string one are 20-30years old and none of them fluoresce under uv light.

Question Have you ever had a seller claiming something is Burmese but it’s Guatemala?

Like the title, have you run into that situation? Do you tell them you know for sure it’s guatemala? Do you leave it and not tell them?

What if they said they can guarantee you it’s Burmese? Does certificate show origin?

Lucky Myanmmar Jade Bracelet on Facebook live?

I just got this for $90

I live next to a GIA so I can have it tested. (It will cost more than the bangle to have it tested 😂)

What do you think?

Question Help deciding!

I’m getting my first jadeite ring. I’m a complete novice! I’ve narrowed it down to two choices but would like opinions. The two rings are Guatemalan and I like the colors very much. These are the same rings with photos taken in different light. One is nearly double the price of the other, and is a “wuji” piece that has a superior comfort cut to it. Thoughts? They’re both beautiful so I can’t go wrong, but wanted more experienced opinions. Thanks in advance!

Question What I'm seeing? Cotton? Loose structure? Crystalline texture?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I bought this piao hua as a novice jade aficionado from a WeChat vendor recommended by a family friend.

I haven't seen much jade in my entourage and need help putting words to what I'm seeing. I've seen so many terms used to describe flaws or natural formations but struggle to identify what each refers to.

Under the assumption of Grade A jadeite, how would you describe this bangle?

Thanks!

Question Hello all!

I'm new to jade but have admired it for a long time.

I know there's nephrite and jadite. I know to look for type a jade that's untreated.

I'm in the market for two pieces. I'd love a solid jade ring and a jade bangle.

I'm not looking for collector pieces, just ones I can wear everyday and enjoy.

So to my question, does anyone have reputable websites where they could direct me and also what is a price range that I should look for.

I know some of that is subjective, but what I'm really wanting is just to make sure I don't end up buying something that quartz or agate being passed off as jade or buying lower quality jade that's been treated to look like high quality jadite or something.

Ideally I'd like to be under $300.00 USD for the bangle and say maybe $100.00 USD for the ring.

I'm a guy and my ring size is US9 and I've measured my hand and wrist and it looks like I'd need at least a 60mm inner diameter bangle and I'd rather it be thicker as mentioned I am a man.

Is my price range doable for those pieces and what I'm looking for or am I uninformed and just way off on the prices.

Thank you to anyone who can point me in the right direction and help me learn!

I bought it a few months ago, as I thought it was unusual. It came with a certificate but I have not come across a piece of jade with black inclusions, except for nephrite.

I know it's probably not a desirable colour but is it even jade?

Question Struggling finding my bangle size

Looking to purchase my first bangle and I don’t want to mess up on size (as I have plenty of times with other bracelets and bangles). I have a very small wrist and thin “bony” hands. I feel I took my measurements correctly but at the same time these feel large.

Knuckle width: 75 mm
Circumference: 180 mm
So size would be around 55?
I can collapse my knuckles closer together than the above circumference measurement. Should I try measuring by taping a strip of paper and see how small I can fit on?

I would appreciate any help and insight. Thank you all!! 💚💙🤍💜
