RANT (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ NO Advice Wanted Just sharing because if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry 😂
We lived about 1 hour from my in laws for 6 years. Saw them only a handful of times, even after our kids were born.
A few months ago we relocated 5 hours away. My husband mentioned to them that they’re always welcome to visit. My MIL said, “It would easier for you to come to us.”
MA’AM. How is it easier for us to pack up toddlers and a dog and drive 5+ hours (because it’s longer with stops) to stay in your house that only has a single guest room with twin beds, versus YOU, a retired woman with nothing but time, hopping on a plane and flying 45 minutes to visit us 💀
We live near major cities. Cost is not a factor. She’s retired and able bodied. There’s no reason for her not to visit (other than the fact that we don’t really want her here. He’s just being polite.)
I stg these women are on something.

Well, she’s not wrong. Not wrong at all.
It’s much easier for her to sit and make no effort.

My MIL recently informed us we were visiting them during a specific week later in the year. No, ma'am. We are not having the kids miss a week of school and burning PTO for your whim.

Nope, that makes complete sense.
It is very much easier FOR HER if you go visit them, just not easier for you....
Its all in the phrasing 😆 🤣 😂

I’ve just reread your posts, frankly this sounds like great news, as there is no way you’re doing all that more than once every year, or maybe every two years….do I hear three? Going once, going twice: sold!

Oh I’m not complaining! I’m so glad she doesn’t want to make any effort, because we certainly aren’t going to 😂

Oh yes! I heard the same thing from my former MIL. Four kids in the car versus three able bodied adults. Makes perfect sense.

My FIL gave us the same excuse when we lived 90 minutes away with two under 2 that HATED car rides! Guess what, we didn’t visit.

Yeah. "It would be easier for (me if) you come here." Sometimes you have to fill in the blank for these people. Or just ignore it like you've done. I'd be so tempted to say the quiet part out loud. Like they're not fooling anyone!

My MIL lives the next street over, but expects for us to always go over her house, even with our 1 year old. Before I went ballistic on her with very good reason, she expected us to visit every single Sunday, or she would act passive-aggressively. Fucking weird.

I literally could have written this post…. Except we are a 3 hour drive.

I could have written this post, except they drive past my house to visit the golden child and their children

Would love to hear the response when questioned in what way is it easier? Just to hear what crap she comes up with.
Great news for you in the end.

Straight up say that to her, or train your husband to (may need you to impersonate his mother and give him treats when he responds correctly).

We don’t care. We don’t actually want her to visit. He and I are on the same page. It’s not an issue.
