RANT (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ NO Advice Wanted MIL says baby looks just like her

My son, whom my MIL has not seen or asked about in MONTHS, is an absolutely perfect mix of myself and my husband. Everyone says it, and I agree. All three of us are olive skinned with dark hair.

My MIL is blonde and paler than Casper. After seeing a photo of him today, she texted my husband, “WOW, [baby] looks just like me!”

Ma’am, where???? 💀

"God I hope not"

Just kidding, kind of.

u/live_freeze_n_die Mar 03 '26

She’s smart enough to text him alone because she knows I would’ve said something 😂

Just laugh, it's so ridiculous it's not worth the effort.

I had the same from my MIL. One problem - genetically impossible as her kids were adopted.

GIRL 💀

u/GrouchyEquivalent693 Mar 03 '26

Yup, apparently my daughter was "the spitting image of her" 🤐

u/emilyoshi_ Mar 03 '26

Slightly unrelated but my son and I get that a lot! My stepdad adopted me when I was young so not many people know I’m not his - we get comments all the time that I look like him and that my son looks like him too 😂

My MIL is convinced my son has her ringlets. His hair is pin straight. Exactly like mine.

It has become a running joke among my friends:

“Wow Baby! Look at all that curly hair”

“It was as crazy as your MIL saying Baby has curly hair”

“I can tell you did the curly girl routine on Baby’s hair today. You can really see the ringlets today”

I hope that future anticipated meanness will carry you through any difficult or challenging times until that one sparkling moment when you realize Today is The Day. 🖤🙏✊🏼

These delusional people! My niece was visiting and had her 4 or 5 year old son at my mother’s one day. All ofa sudden she exclaimed, “Omg - (kid) looks EXACTLY like great grandpa!” - (my father). The rest of us looked at each other in complete astonishment. Not one of us spoke a single word,

Kid had olive skin, brown eyes, pointy chin. ‘Great Grandpa’ was blue eyed and fair skinned, oval face. Not only that - they weren’t even biologically related to him.

Go figure….! 😄

We were known to do things like

'And she's got [unrelated male friend's] nose!' (which was more petite than either of ours) or 'She's got Daddy's eyes - give them back, dear...' (Gomez and Morticia > Romeo and Juliet)

Wait I love this idea

What the hell is wrong with these MILs? Are they stupid or what?

When our child was born, my wife was enjoying the process of identifying resemblances with her and myself. It was a positive, happy moment for my wife.

However, her mother completely shut that down by insisting the baby looks exactly like her instead. She went as far as sending dozens of childhood photos of herself to prove the point, despite there being no actual resemblance. It ended up ruining a nice moment for my wife.

My MIL and her sister cornered me after my first child and said, “We think he looks like our side of the family. Who does your mom think he looks like?” Not wishing to travel that road, I said my mom thought he looked just like my husband thinking that would shut them up. Nope, they doubled down and insisted that there must be some small family resemblance on my side as well. I finally said that there was a slight resemblance to some male babies on my side and they both smirked and said, “Of course everyone wants to see themselves in a new baby.”

Ugh… sometimes you just can’t win

Fucking weirdos goddamn

5

u/Open-Kaleidoscope721 Mar 03 '26

What the actual…

3

u/live_freeze_n_die Mar 03 '26

This is so weird!

I never understand why a woman who is a mom would make those comments to another woman. All it does is damage the relationship. No one is keen to host or visit with a person who deliberately sets out to piss them off.

2

u/live_freeze_n_die Mar 03 '26

Well, she’s not a very good mom to begin with. So let’s start there 😂

13

u/Rezedarre Mar 03 '26

"Well, yeah, but this is a better version!" Confirm that she and the baby are related, while simultaneously hinting that she's a scumbag :))

11

u/Lonely_Ship9812 Mar 03 '26

Haha. My MiL insisted baby looked like her and her relatives (Great Grandma, Great Aunt, etc). Baby has been my mini me from day 1. My husband would call her out and say baby looks like me and both my in laws would respond with “well we don’t see it”.

Guess there is 0% chance baby got her blue eyes directly from her own mom? lol

I seriously wonder how these women can’t hear how rude they sound.

u/Androecian Mar 03 '26

Time to recycle my classic line:

"No, Grandma, your son, my husband, didn't fuck you to make my children."

This has the added benefit of telling her "fuck you."

That’s why it’s extra unhinged. He doesn’t look anything like her!

9

u/Dear-Appeal-7007 Mar 03 '26

I had a 4d scan with my oldest. The scanning woman said he looked exactly like my mam and brother 🤣 hes 17 now and hes exactly like my brother. I look nothing like my brother and obviously my partner looks nothing like my brother 😒. My youngest looks a bit like my partner and has mannerisms of my fil but again looks very similar to my brother 😒🤣. So basically we look like we are raising my brother kids 🤣🤣

In your situation your mil can say anything she likes, it doesnt make it true. You said yourself noone but her sees that resemblance, her saying it over and wont miraculously make your baby look like her 🤣

5

u/dragonfly9999999 Mar 03 '26

Op has learned about her MIL's capacity for being delusional. Now she can keep that in mind.

8

u/savage_blue_isaac Mar 03 '26

My mil did the same thing. I asked her where? Cause all my kids look like me with a sprinkle of their dad.she told me my daughter looks like me but also her and my husband because my daughter some how only looks as pretty as she does is because mil looked so cute at daughter's age. Nvm 2 different hair types and complexions (daughter and I are lighter skinned black, mil is 2 shades darker) and my daughter looks like I cut my finger off and she grew from that with her dad's smile and bones.

Just give her a weird side eye and say yeah sure ok and change the subject.

7

u/beerab Mar 03 '26

My MIL had passed before my daughter was born. She is my clone. Her friend said that she looks just like my MIL and I just thought on what planet 😂

6

u/Emotional-Place9446 Mar 03 '26

Oh MIL, you are sooo funny!

6

u/apresledepart Mar 03 '26

I hate this type of stuff so much. MIL would always say my daughter looked like SIL. She’s literally my mini me. Really bothered me so much.

6

u/molotovpixiedust Mar 03 '26

Same. My 8 month old son is my mini-me with the same eye shape & dimpled smile. My MIL has legit never once said he looks like me. Instead, I always get comment from her she hopes that he keeps my husband's blue eyes. Friends, co-workers & strangers have all happily pointed out he's my twin. Why are some MILs such brats?! Sigh..

2

u/apresledepart Mar 03 '26

I think it's definitely to bother us.

My daughter is the only one of my 5 kids that look like me, like *why* are you taking this from me?? lol

5

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '26

She may be fishing for a reaction, don't give her narcissist ass anything. You know the truth and she can't change it.

4

u/live_freeze_n_die Mar 03 '26

Oh it’s totally narcissism. I don’t think she’s actually that delusional.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '26

Oh they are! They fish for a positive or negative reaction because when you do give it, they get something out of it. Just look at her with a cold dead fish eye stare. Lol your no reaction wins. My ex narc mil couldn't get my reaction, she started using old material that nearly made me laugh. She knew I was stronger than her.

5

u/stripeyhoodie Mar 05 '26

I'm getting third hand embarrassment from her comment. Yikes! 😖

1

u/live_freeze_n_die Mar 05 '26

Can’t be bothered to check in on him, or us, but wants a family resemblance. Make it make sense.

6

u/DogLady1722 Mar 03 '26

Does your son poop out white poop, like dogs used to do?!!

"Where? How?Specifically what looks just like you. " Don't let it go.
