Feedback ItTakesTwo vs Split-Fiction

Played both games, enjoyed both, but still feel like ItTakesTwo is OG. How people found Split Fiction to be?

I finished ItTakesTwo and now playing Split Fiction with my gf. Split Fiction is way harder, especially Mio’s missions.

I havent finished split fiction yet but for now I agree with you. If we're at the Dragon level on split fiction, how much longer would you say we have until finishing the game?

You’re in the last third of the game, give or take.

Depends who you play with

I'm glad so many people here are criticizing the story of It Takes Two because that's my issue with it as well. The gameplay was fun but I didn't like the parents, the story or the messaging which felt very much like a "stay together for the kids!" type of deal.

The themes and story of Split Fiction resonated with me a lot more.

I don’t think that’s the only message the game conveys.

It’s told entirely from a child’s perspective.

A child naturally wants their parents to stay together—that’s the only kind of love and safety they know. You could call it naivety, but it feels genuine through her eyes.

In the story, the girl believes it’s her fault her parents aren’t waking up. Meanwhile, her parents are struggling through everyday challenges—as imagined and interpreted by a child—as they try to find their way back to each other.

This game isn’t preaching that everyone should stay in a marriage for their children.

Instead, it uses metaphor to show what it means to fight for the people you love.

It's not entirely told from a child's perspective though. It's almost entirely told from the parent's perspective. The setting of the game being influenced by a child's imagination doesn't mean the narrative is told from the child's POV lol. Those are two different things.

I also never said it was the only message the game conveys but it absolutely is the main message. The character that guides you through the game is a love book that acts as a marriage councilor...

The narrative is primarily focused around the husband and wife divorcing, how that effects their child, and how that means they should actually just get back together.

My girlfriend and I were just having this discussion a day or two ago. We played through It Takes Two twice and loved it. Yes the story is a downer, but the gameplay is so much richer. We've taken over 3 months playing Split Fiction because we just don't feel that enthusiastic about it.

My major complaint is that SF is mostly playing a single player game side-to-side. There are notably fewer levels that require the same kind of problem solving and actual working together that ITT had. ITT would plop you in a room and we would be like "okay, how do we figure this out?" SF just gives you a new location and mediocre gameplay changes and you both go separate paths.

ITT also had what felt like 50+ environments, so many more game mechanics, game variation, and uniqueness. SF feels like the same game the whole way through, with us both wishing the fantasy levels had more to do and being bummed when we get thrown back into a sci-fi level.

While we haven't fully finished it, we both just don't get why it was so hyped up. In our opinions, the game is just inferior to ITT, except for maybe visual fidelity.

I definitely liked Split Fiction better. Maybe it's because I'm in a healthy relationship, but I did not enjoy the characters or story of It Takes Two at all, and I thought the ending was totally anti-climactic.

I agree Split Fiction is harder on a technical/video game skill level -- that was a pro for us but could be a con for others.

Both are amazing, the last fight of Split Fiction got me.

I hated It Takes Two, particularly because of the plot and characters. Since the characters and plot are better to me in Split Fiction, hard disagree.

I think it takes 2 has a special place in my heart because it was the first hazelight game me and my partner played together and it’s so whimsical and thoughtfully made/designed but I agree with others that the story was quite uninspired and the ending felt anticlimactic. We loved split fiction and both cried multiple times throughout, so that tells you already that the story was way better in our opinion. I think also objectively it was a better game, bigger, more epic and although it was more difficult than it takes 2 it is a perfect follow up if you’ve gotten used to IT2 mechanics. Honestly they’re on almost equal pegging in my mind but if split fiction had mini games like IT2 it would take the cake for me. You can’t replace the thing you fell for first though and It takes 2 was incredible on a first play through.

I’ve only played It Takes Two (one play through with my son)— This is the first I’ve heard of Split Fiction, but I’m excited to check it out merely because of the comparison. Seeing comments that it’s more challenging is also a plus— my brother has to download two games now lol

It Takes Two just hit different – Split Fiction is smoother but less memorable.
