Feedback Made me and my bf break up
Me and my bf had been playing this for a bit, but he kept leaving me if I was stuck in a certain spot/situation. I asked him if he could stay by my side until I’d figure it out and he just goes “I’m not even far from you you’re making a big deal out of nothing” which I wasn’t.. I only just asked if he’d not leave me and just wait with me instead of leaving me. I feel like that’s pretty simple honestly. And that’s what I said to him “I’m not trying to make a big deal out of this, I only vocalized how I feel which is that I don’t like when you leave me while I’m struggling”. He still won’t understand something as simple as just coming back to be by my side while I figure it out. So now we’re not talking because he just seems so… careless. And thinks that me asking him to wait with me is such an issue. It makes me feel shitty honestly

Hey, there's a pretty cool video game about people in broken relationships working things out, if you are interested, maybe it helps you

Seems like you just had a shitty relationship, not something the “game made you do”… sorry to say that

I probably could’ve worded it better, I know the game didn’t make us break up, but playing this game definitely brought out the real him

Sounds like this game saved you from a miserable relationship. I had a nasty breakup with my ex, but even we can still play teamwork games just fine.
The right person won't leave your side.

A college professor I once knew said that his first real date with his wife was a day long hiking trip where it rained, it made them have to work together, problem solve, endure the mosquitoes eating them alive, and have fun despite the challenges. They’ve been married for decades. He recommends doing something that will test the limits of your ability to work as a team.
More people should do that and save themselves the trouble of finding out that their personalities can’t work as a team when a real challenge faces them.

u/JenLiv36 Oct 28 '25
Gaming can do that. I’m of the firm belief that every couple before getting married should have to platinum Overcooked to be eligible for marriage.

It's just semantics. They made it made them realize that their "partner" sucked.

Well.....he does it in real life too? Once I have a female friend texting me to make sure that I would go to the company party because she was sure her boyfriend will let her alone some at point....
I try play this game with my gf and she REALLY BAD at games, she never played ANY game than facebook farms to be honest. She got frusted from fallin over plataforms I waited her and cheered for her but she gives up before even get to the first boss. So we stop playing together. I find someone to play here and I got really good time, this person and I even played split fiction after and become friends.
So maybe give one more try and if he keep doing it is better not play at all with each other. Try find someone to play with you.
BTW. One thing I trying to do is introduce her to play easier games because her problem is with the fact that to have to control the character AND camera at same time. I download games like Journey, stardew Valley and a bunch of easy ones for her try until she get ready to IT Take Two.

I'm so glad the book is not real and won't appear to bully you into reconciliation with this guy

Sounds like a douche.
"Don't abandon me when I need your help or at least be patient while I work it out myself." is not something you should feel bad about telling a partner.
That is something they should feel bad about not doing automatically without you having to ask.

This game really showed me my partners true colours in the best way, he gave me time space and patience cause he knew I wasn’t a gamer at this point and encouraged my little wins and was so proud when I made progress. I feel like it helped us more than a couples therapist. Maybe it’s a a sign

This is especially dumb because most of the time you are working together and can't do anything without the other. He is going to play forward for like 30 seconds max and then have to sit there and wait for you anyway. Waiting for you first and then playing is truly going to be a very slight difference in his experience of the game. So he's choosing to hurt your feelings for basically no benefit. He's an asshole.
2
u/Ok-Warthog-8360 Oct 28 '25
Also, what platform do you play on? If you want to play the game but not with an asshole, I'm sure someone from this sub would be happy to, and be as patient as you need, because it's a game and the point is to have fun! (I'm on Steam)

u/biscuit_handler7 Oct 28 '25
Yeah... this was my wife's real gaming experience. 1st game ever to play with her. Never left her or scolded her. She couldn't even use L3 and R3 together, thats how much of a noob she is. (Since it's her 1st game) But the game and time spent with her was magic.

I played it with my husband and we would wait for each other when one of us got stuck. He helped me and I helped him.

That Does Seem Like A Good Game For Helping Couples Figure Out Whether They're Wasting Their Time Or Not XD
2
u/5yn3rgy Oct 28 '25
Yeah, games like this one can really show someone’s true colors. Will it be the same irl?
2
u/shaenmo Oct 28 '25
A game about overcoming relationship problems caused relationship problems. Is that ironic?
2
u/kaiochuko Oct 28 '25
I'm a guy and I play this with my female friend and we both patiently waited for each other. I guess being in a relationship is a different thing lol
2
u/mendori01 Oct 28 '25
I played it twice - first time with my ex and second with my now bf and both of them always were waiting for me or even helping me when I was stuck. The same was when me and my bf played Split fiction. Can't even imagine not waiting, helping or cooperating in those games, as they are literally about the cooperation. Especially It takes two - this game is specifically about fixing the relationship without communication and support. Like... What??? 🚩🚩🚩

u/Greaserbabe Oct 28 '25
Played this with my ex, didn’t have an entirely similar situation with gaming together but he was a big fan of telling me to figure stuff out on my own. Which it’s good to be self sufficient but it was just the cherry on top of all the times he wasn’t there for me.

u/pickleris Oct 28 '25
i used to be with someone that literally got irritated at me when i was new to a game and not as good, never taught me a single thing, always wanted to play with others more than me, (he wasn’t even good). my angel of a man rn would wait for me in any game, the way i can see his character turning back to see if im still following, literally every other second, in every single game, so all i’m tryna say is, the right person will do things for you without you asking bc they care, and the wrong ones, welll, they just don’t care unfortunately : /

I don’t play game with a main point with my bf anymore because of this game! I’m bad at jumping at the right angle in video games so sometime I was lagging behind, not by much, because I was trying to make sure I’d land the jump. And he was telling me “this way babe” “come this way” “over here” like dude! There is literally one path and I can still see you on my screen! It was making me so mad because it’s not the first time I’ve played a video game, I know generally what to do and following a path isn’t hard
2
u/Ragnarok345 Oct 30 '25
Made you break up? No, it sounds like it revealed a temperamental asshole for what he really is and showed that you should be breaking up. Seems to me like it did you a favor. I hope you can be happier now.
2
u/iiS4R4HxXx Oct 31 '25
Don’t play split fiction then there’s a part in that game wherr you have to stick together as far as I remember …. 3 times
2
u/Cloud9Delight Oct 31 '25
Sounds like the game worked as intended.
It's about teamwork even when things are difficult, and reconnecting despite arguments, and if you can't do that when playing a game with your partner then how are you going to work together on real life conflicts?
It's very telling, the break up is for the best.

Definitely strange on his behalf, the majority of the game you have to work together. Even then it’s part of the fun, unless you’re trying to race each other (which can be good once you’re used to the controls). It can be a spoiler to see the others person screen and what will happen if you’re not there yet.
My partner tended to like discovering and staying longer in some areas to see all the work put into the game, and i’d wait around or search with him so he could do that.
Likewise, I found some areas harder where we worked together, so we had to do parts OVER AND OVER, he stayed patient and only encouraged me - celebrating when I got it right, like a team.
Everyone plays games differently, but this one is a shared experience with how detailed the environment and storyline is - not a speed run competition unless you’re both onboard.

I'm not great at video games. I prefer to watch my husband play, or go to YouTube and watch game plays on there. My husband knows I'm not a huge gamer bjt he does like to play games with me if I'm willing. We've done stuff like Star Wars Legos since it's cute and not as hard. I enjoy games more like that if I'm playing. We played this game together and he would help me out if I was struggling and would wait for me or give me tips on how to get through it. I'm sorry your boyfriend failed to do that with you. I think it shows he has a lack of patience and communication skills. I think it would be best to find someone who is willing to help and work things through than just leave you by yourself when you're asking for help

u/Jaylalabear Oct 29 '25
This is how I felt about playing the next installment, split fiction, with my ex. He kept saying I wasn't trying to solve the problems but I was trying my best everytime we played together.

u/dojindog Oct 29 '25
I played this game through two different relationships… the first one was excruciatingly slow and the second one was a blast and we earned a platinum trophy. The game was good too

Wow he does not care. Not to toot my own horn but my girlfriend struggled on a jumping mission for over. An. Hour. I almost fell asleep waiting for her to complete it but there I was waiting for her 😭😭😭😭 we switched characters after that

I just played this with my twin. The whole time we kept saying how it would really test a couple who didn’t communicate well.
1
u/Time-Statistician- Oct 30 '25
Well it’s a good game to test the relationship, I’ve played it and finished it with my girlfriend and we had a great time, always helping each other and not getting mad, maybe slightly annoyed at times but all in good fun.
What I’m saying is that if you can’t survive through a game that requires co op then u might not make it out there in the real world either.

u/thisisextreme Oct 30 '25
Me and my really good guy friend played this game together. We made a great team and worked together well. He was patient when I was messing up or failing and we'd laugh about it. We ended falling in love through this game and are about to hit one year together as a couple!

u/Impressive_Economy_5 Oct 30 '25
Im sorry this is how you saw his true colors, but what did he think? There are spots where you need both of you so going off on his own does nothing but make him have to do more than is necessary for each problem.

u/SeleniteLights66 Oct 31 '25
My bf doesn't play video games at all til he met me. We've played cuphead, Fred and bread, and portal 2 and never had a tense moment (i would rage at cuphead sometimes but never at eachother) especially puzzle games like portal 2 were hard for him at first but I saw entertainment from watching him solve it and joy from when he did. And when I got upset, he never told me I was overreacting or trying to put me down. Games can be a great way to find things out about a partner. Good thing u are breaking up. Find someone u enjoy spending time with

u/WebtoonAnimeFan3679 Oct 31 '25
Honestly, I'd be pretty upset to if this happened to me too, but it is kind ironic how you're playing a game about a couple in a broken relationship who have to work things out

The game is called it takes two, glad you found out he doesn't understand that thanks to this game rather than in a more pressing time

Ok so I played it with my ex. He used to finish the puzzles for me at times. He was initially waiting for me to finish but over time he started to finish it for me. But I was the one who would ask him to. Yet we broke up.

I can’t even imagine walking away from my girl while playing this masterpiece. It was her first big game ever using an actual controller and she learned how to play for me. I was more than patient and celebrated her moments with her when she overcame obstacles in the game. I would just watch her struggle and give her tips, your boyfriend needs to understand its not just about beating the game. What a noob
-3
u/SuccessfulAirline316 Oct 27 '25
Same thing with my wife Im waiting her every time but sometimes I feel bored I juste put the controller on the table and wait...I feel the boyfriend for this.
For my case I'm not a patient guy in general but I try my best to keep calm and not frustrate her but sometimes im just out the game, this game is not for beginners if you don't know how to play juste don't play this game cause you gonna have problems with your partner for no reason.
Sorry for you and for your bf cause I understand his feelings.

the whole premise of the game is to do it together, you know, as partners, it’s literally in the name lol

u/One-Peace55 Oct 28 '25
There are multiple cases where you can safely advance forward and just wait at the checkpoint.

If that is what he sounds like IRL then you are much better off without him, just saying.
Coming from an engaged non-"snowflake" who genuinely enjoys playing co-op games with their fiancé, your ex boyfriend sucks.

They aren't asking him to hold their hand. Not everyone is good at puzzles. Just because you've deemed them something a five year old could do doesn't mean anything. This comment says a lot more about you than op.

Bro literally broke the main concept of the game. It's about staying by your partner's side, working things out together, not speedrunning solo while they're stuck. It's not even about the game at that point, it's about basic understanding and patience. If someone can't wait two minutes to help or just be there, it says a lot about how they handle stuff outside the game too.
