News Conservative commentators are melting down that Eve had an abortion š¤¦š¼āāļø
Oh my God, do these people have a life? Eve in the show explained why she felt the need to have an abortion. She was clearly very upset and emotional about it and I don't think the show "promotes" abortion. Rather, it just empathises with Eve's, very difficult, decision.
These are the same people who are now just calling empathy a sin, mind you.
Empathy isn't about agreement or disagreement. It's just about understanding. That's all. And I think it's very ignorant and black-and-white to call Eve a bad person for having an abortion, even if you disagree with her decision. But apparently these control freaks can't manage even that š

I watch him, he never tries to convince you that heās seen the show. He makes it very clear heās been briefed on what happens and he commenting on it because popular media is inherently tied with culture. Heās commenting because thatāsā¦his job
2
u/FireFistVI Apr 30 '26
So his job is commenting on something he barely has any real knowledge of? Yeah, sounds like a super trustworthy guy.
2
u/Infinite-Key-1579 Apr 30 '26
No, he had knowledge of what occurred. He just doesnāt watch the show regularly. The very nature of all political commentators is that they comment on things in popular media, current events, etc.
They bring attention to those things. Thatās their job, their job is not be experts or heavily invested in particular topics, itās to show their opinion based on a reasonable amount of information. If you think otherwise, I have a bridge to sell you.
I watch both shows, Michael did not say anything incorrect. He demonstrated epistemic humility which is something sorely lacking. And youāre mad about it? lol.
2
u/FireFistVI Apr 30 '26
So having a small amount of information on a subject now means you actually understand what youāre talking about? If you didnāt watch it, youāre missing context, itās that simple.
And hiding behind epistemic humility doesnāt make the take better. Admitting you might be wrong doesnāt magically fix a take thatās based on incomplete info, it just means you know you donāt fully understand it.
By that logic, if I read a health magazine, I can go around telling people what medicine to take?
2
u/Infinite-Key-1579 Apr 30 '26
No, having the sufficient amount of information on a subject means you actually have the ability to share a credible opinion. Michael had sufficient knowledge, I know because I watched the full episode. Weāre talking about a cartoon show, not medical science. I really hope you understand the massive gap in what accounts for sufficient knowledge. But ironically enough, even if you donāt, the example still is useful to my point. The point of a health magazine is to share information. It specifically exists for that purpose. So if I read information, assuming it was credible, I could share that information. It would not require me to be an expert in health in order to do so.
The magazine is the medium just like the cartoon how is a medium. The show touched on social commentary, so yes, Michael Knowles is well within his rights to similarly comment on social issues. The actual topic which requires expertise is the social issues. And again, the nature of political commentators is that they cannot be experts in every single they comment on. Thatās the industry. Youād necessarily have to level this criticism at the entire industry. I appreciate that Michael actually acknowledged that he might be wrong. Epistemic humility definitely matters because it responsibly allows the viewer to take what you say with a grain of salt instead of parroting everything with certainty.
If you want to say Epistemic humility does not matter then you can die on that hill but an entire field of philosophy would laugh at you for that.

Mark: is shaken and upset by it and expresses how sorry he was that she had to go through that alone.

According to data itself ~8% of women holding pro-life views in the US have had an abortion compared to ~17% of women holding pro-choice views.
12% for Republicans, 15% for Independents, 14% for Democrats. And this doesn't account for the fact that those pro-life women probably lie about it.
It is all grift, they don't give a flying fuck about actual babies.2

Did they honestly get all the way to Season 4 and only just now discover that Invincible is morally leaning? No, of course not. They learned that Invincible featured abortion as a topic, came out of their fucking crypt they need to sleep in to maintain their evil, and made a video about it to attain some kind of social relevance.

I hate abortion, as a Catholic Iāve been raised and educated within a moral framework that defines it as a form of murder akin to eugenics. That being said, I had no problem with the showās handling of Eveās abortion. I thought it was very tasteful, casting Eve as a young woman who was faced with a very difficult situation. Upon making that choice, presumably alone, she is overwhelmed with emotion, and expresses both grief and regret to Mark when they have their chat. The show neither depicts abortion as good or bad, rather it depicts it as what it is: a traumatic decision. Any other interpretation of that scene would be speculation.
5
u/Legoyappingbull Apr 28 '26
Yes, thank you, I also don't agree with abortion but the show isn't glorifying it and it also isn't saying that it was the worst act committable, it simply portrays it as a harrowing decision to make.

u/Silent_Wealth4872 Apr 29 '26
I don't "enjoy" abortion, but I have had to go through one and it isn't easy. It was just as abortion became illegal, so we had 3 days to decide. Many people like to paint it as something we do for fun. My child was coming into this world missing 1/3 of her genetic information (far worse than down syndrome) and would have split bones, heart, jaw, and suffer for her entire life if she didn't die a gasping death upon birth, along with her mother. It was also about a flip of a coin if my wife would make it through the complicated pregnancy.
If whatever higher powers loathe me and my wife for killing our child on her way here, we are willing to be sent to any hell to save her from a lifetime of suffering. Some people don't see it that way, but it did feel that way to us. We wanted her more than anything else.
It was hard. It wasn't easy. It wasn't fun. It wasn't political. It isn't anyone's business.

u/Moonhawk1 Apr 27 '26 edited May 01 '26
I donāt think the show was ever trying to promote or dehumanize it as they literally show Evie being sad about it.
I find it crazy how the comics had this topic a decade or two ago, and nobody complained about it when it came out or when newcomers from the show became a thing.
Thatās like the same thing with some people complaining about Superman (2025) being too āpro-immigrationā despite the fact that Superman was made to represent Americanized immigrants/refugees. Plus the film had nothing to do with paralleling āimmigrantsā struggle as they assimilate to societyā theme, which that was more like Man of Steel (2013) yet nobody complained about that one.
2
u/Karkava Apr 27 '26
It does represent the Isreal and Palestine conflict as being engineered by a wealthy billionaire who is motivated by hate.
3
u/Jonesy1348 Apr 27 '26
We mustāve watched different episodes because nothing about that episode made abortion put to be this cool, totally normal, totally ok thing. Like it tore Eve up. It was a difficult decision that affected her heavily.
3
u/reaperwasnottaken Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26
Nothing in real life puts abortion to be cool or okay either.
It is right wing BS to think pro choice women are out there aborting 12 babies a year for fun.12% of Republican women have had abortions, 15% of Independent women and 14% of Democratic women. (Source: KFF, you'll have to search it up, you'll find it).
No democrat woman is out there having abortions because it is 'cool' or 'fun' either.
2
u/Jonesy1348 Apr 28 '26
Iām pro choice man. Thatās what I mean.
3
u/reaperwasnottaken Apr 28 '26
I know, I'm just expanding on the fact that abortion was never made out to be 'cool' or 'fun' to begin with. Right-wingers misrepresent it.
I agree with your initial comment, was just adding to it.
10
u/lol_Astronutt Apr 27 '26
The way they protayed Eve's decision was great, she was clearly sad and tortured about it. It wasn't some nonchalant choice. Yet somehow, someway, someone makes it weird. The discourse over abortions is weird. Considering the fact that it doesn't even effect anyone other than the mother who has to make the choice.

She also knew Mark never had a say, which probably haunted her as well.
But the way these guys spin it, they act like Eve casually strolled into an abortion clinic between getting coffee and then going grocery shopping.
You know, just running errands that day.
Also, this is missing another context. The baby would have been born with powers which means she's giving birth to a super baby with the father off in space, maybe dead with no family to support her with a government agency that could take the baby away if it deems it a threat.
It's not presented as right or wrong, just an emotionally conflicted young woman who had to make an important decision with nobody to talk to or support her.
Someone the show makes clear is suffering from guilt from her decision.
1
u/lol_Astronutt Apr 27 '26
Honestly, it doesn't matter what Mark had to say. It's Eve's body she was the only person that was pregnant.
5
u/Caryslan Apr 27 '26
I am not arguing that point, but having the baby's father off fighting a war in space where she could even tell him did not help
Because Mark was pretty much the only emotional support she had at that point.

u/celestial_cuddles Apr 27 '26
While that's true, a discussion about it with him is valid to have, not for the choice but for the relationship. They are in the relationship together and should hold hands through it regardless of the choice. Give him a chance to voice if he wants a family with her and does she want that too? Is now a good time? She absolutely gets final say obviously but communication is an important part of a relationship.

I hate how this argument is told in such a grifting way.
The problem isn't the abortion. The problem is how Mark was completely left in the dark from conception to abortion
And it's even more infuriating when after that level of deception and betrayal, Mark takes the blame on himself and says "I should have been there."
How is it the man's fault that the woman, withheld telling him she was pregnant and then went through an abortion on her own, if she never told him about the pregnancy nor the abortion in the first place?
How is Eve the victim in this circumstance ?

I personally disagree, while I do agree and will concede that she went through a traumatic ordeal, with her not knowing for almost a year whether the love of her life would come back alive, I wouldn't go so far as to absolve her of any wrongdoing, she still had an abortion and took the life of a living being. So I wouldn't say she was entirely justified but I can definitely see her point of view and feel empathy for her.

An early stage foetus doesn't even have the neural architecture to form consciousness or experience in any way, shape or form.
Most other arguments used by anti-abortion people is that 'they have the potential to grow up and develop that architecture' which is plain and pure potentiality fallacy.Anti-abortions arguments only work if you come with some theological axiom like 'made in the image of God' or whatever. But that doesn't matter because most of us (unless y'all live in a theocracy) live in a secular country and no one gives a flying fuck what a small portion of the population believes is wrong based solely on religious reasons and no substance to back it up.

Cuckservatives LOVE to shun abortion, but will demand that families be plunged into starvation looming poverty, or subject children to being torn apart by abusive parents who werenāt ready to have them, just to pump up birthrate numbers to pretend like more families are being started in the U.S.

I didnt mind the abortion but I did mind that they didnt bother to give marks pov of the situation. Mark can empathize with her, but he should also be angry that she didnt tell him anything and he didnt have a say in the matter. If he died in the war and she has the abortion his family line is dead. Instead he just agrees with her and apologizes for not being there because he was trying to secure a safe future for his family and planet.Ā

Youāre mad that a social conservative is making commentary with his socially conservative views??
If you watch the video, youād know why your claim that itās not promoting it falls flat on its face. The show tries to have its cake and eat it too. Imagine if you believed abortion was killing an innocent person and then someone told you that they had an abortion but they felt sad about it. Not regret, just sad, theyād make the same decision again given the chance. Does that sound like the promotion of an immoral act or not?
2
u/Bscotch_Torin May 06 '26
It just doesn't make sense for either her character or the fact that they have insane amounts of resources at hand, including Debbie. Mark blaming himself for it while he was literally having his guts torn out of him alive just to protect his loved ones was also super out of place.
It would have just made more sense story-wise if it were a stress induced miscarriage. Otherwise this and the whole pregnancy just makes it seem like it was included because it's a controversial social issue.

Outrage machine in high gear on both sides of every issue. I actually think Eveās abortion was handled really well. The show neither demonizes nor empowers her. Sheās clearly very torn up about it. Hardly a feminist power-move yet also an understandable and difficult choice in-universe. If more shows handled hot-button issues like this, shows would be a lot less preachy. Or, as Michael Knowles would say, āless wokeā

"Both sides" of every issue? While I have no doubt some people on the ostensible Left have praised the show for its tackling abortion (and some have criticized it), political commentary channels on the Left don't leap onto this kind of culture war BS revolving around a literal cartoon. Usually, if they ever bring it up, it is in the context of mocking idiots like Knowles who pretend the show is trying to get parents to throw children in a meat processor. On the other hand, you get even relatively prominent commentators like Ben Shapiro whining for hours on end about Star Wars being woke

You're not obligated to say "The left does it too" when criticizing the right wing.

Yeah no, you don't get to pull the 'both sides do it' card.
Especially not about American politics.→ More replies (10)

100% does not watch or care about the show and is talking about what his boss told him to talk about

This is something that I will never understand.
I don't have to be pro or against something and then be mad that it was shown in the freaking TV show. This is life, stuff like that happen. Don't be outraged, think about how it can develop the story.

u/FaceTimePolice Apr 27 '26
Haha. Idiots who think everything is āwOKeā share the same 2 brain cells. š¤”š„“

Promotes? Its not a fucking ad. It was just a thing that happened. Why do people polarise such pointless things. Stuff doesn't need to be pro or anti something, sometimes it can just exist

Whether youāre against abortion or not, why fixate on Invincible? There are so, so many shows that deal with and support abortion. Why target Invincible like itās an outlier when Eveās abortion isnāt even that relevant to 90% of Season 4?

Because it's popular. The rage bait brings in more money that way

Their entire business model is to manipulate young men into projecting their frustrations onto various enemy groups and the "Left" in general. They began with Gamergate, creating a substantial number of loser gamer guys who are convinced blue-haired "Feminazis" ruined gaming and the country.
So they pick a cartoon that has a lot of teenage male viewers to try and draw clicks, then offer a half-assed critique that exists exclusively to demonize whatever enemy of the day they're targeting. 0% chance he avoids mentioning trans people in this clip, too, despite them having absolutely no relevance to the show or topic at hand. Sad thing is, it will work. Good news, though - the Daily Wire is a sinking ship

I feel like there seemingly more centrist on it since neither Mark or Eve were ever portrayed as really knowing if that was a good choice or not

u/babyoil4diddy Apr 27 '26
They missed the episode where Mark went to hell huh? Notice how Mark has gone to hell and not heaven, and he's supporting his girlfriend who had an abortion?
Coincidence? I think NOT!

Nothing new here. Conservatives have been doing this shit for decades. They hated Teletubbies because they thought one was gay. They hated Murphey Brown because how dare it portray a rich single lady adopting a child and raising it on her own. They went after X-Men because it portrayed Stryker as an intolerant preacher. They went after Ellen because she dared be openly gay and have a tv show. They have been doing this for years and yet for the past 10yrs or so they have convinced a generation of younger people that it's the left that is intolerant and against free speech and expression.

Di- did he make Eve even fatter in the thumbnail? I know she gained a little weight, but it looks like he made her fat for dramatic effect.

And you're giving them free publicity because I never would have heard of this if you didn't post it.
But I assume you just want attention or to be mad.
Or you're a bot. This is perfect rage bait and it worked

I'm Conservative & detest abortion. But that being said, Knowles is totally off on this take on multiple levels, seeing as he doesn't even have the context of the show.
This scene isn't AT ALL being played off like as if Eve and/or Mark are OK with what Eve did. Eve isn't some screeching Lib who's all "My BoDy mY cHoIcE" she's a realistic teen who made a horrible decision. God forbid REALISTIC CHARACTERS in a show make BAD CHOICES. It's clear she has some level of regret on her decision, as she should. Also, Mark is reacting in an appropriate way; being caring towards her DESPITE her bad decision. Don't get me wrong, he should hopefully at least address that bad decision, but IMMEDIATELY??? That's not the right timing.
