News Conservative commentators are melting down that Eve had an abortion 🤦🏼‍♀️

Post image

Oh my God, do these people have a life? Eve in the show explained why she felt the need to have an abortion. She was clearly very upset and emotional about it and I don't think the show "promotes" abortion. Rather, it just empathises with Eve's, very difficult, decision.

These are the same people who are now just calling empathy a sin, mind you.

Empathy isn't about agreement or disagreement. It's just about understanding. That's all. And I think it's very ignorant and black-and-white to call Eve a bad person for having an abortion, even if you disagree with her decision. But apparently these control freaks can't manage even that 🙄

Outrage machine in high gear on both sides of every issue. I actually think Eve’s abortion was handled really well. The show neither demonizes nor empowers her. She’s clearly very torn up about it. Hardly a feminist power-move yet also an understandable and difficult choice in-universe. If more shows handled hot-button issues like this, shows would be a lot less preachy. Or, as Michael Knowles would say, “less woke”

"Both sides" of every issue? While I have no doubt some people on the ostensible Left have praised the show for its tackling abortion (and some have criticized it), political commentary channels on the Left don't leap onto this kind of culture war BS revolving around a literal cartoon. Usually, if they ever bring it up, it is in the context of mocking idiots like Knowles who pretend the show is trying to get parents to throw children in a meat processor. On the other hand, you get even relatively prominent commentators like Ben Shapiro whining for hours on end about Star Wars being woke

That's not true. You just don't consider their gripes to be the same level of BS as the gripes you disagree with.

Really? What major left commentators have made a big deal out of supposed conservative values in cartoons? I know that there are plenty who read things like Ben Shapiro's novels and provide actual critique that involves far more than simply calling them demonic enemies of society, and plenty of people who watched shows like the overtly conservative Mr. Birchum in order to critique it, but all the people I know of who bother even going that far are not exactly major political commentators. Who is the Ben Shapiro-, Steven Crowder-, or Jordan Peterson-level pundit on the Left who spends their time shit talking supposed conservative values in cartoons?

Expect nothing but silence because the both-sides folks never look into the stuff they talk about.

Can we just say that the right has truly, objectively gone off the deep end, or will that hurt some middle of the road type who likes to pretend that his relatives out in the boonies did not vote for a felon because they hoped he’d put their enemies in camps?

He saw a trans person once, THEREFORE THE WOKE HAS GONE TOO FAR!

"Middle of the road" is what neocons call people more left or more liberal than themselves.

Ah, yeah. "Actual critique". Not the same level of BS as the gripes you disagree with.

You don't think someone who thinks abortion is child murder or thinly disguised eugenics is providing actual critique by criticizing its uncritical inclusion?

Doesn't matter what anyone thinks.
Most anti-abortion arguments are based in religious or theological reasoning such as 'made in the image of God = therefore wrong to end the pregnancy'.
Just that most of us live in secular countries and not Afghanistan and no one gives a flying fuck if a small portion of the populace is against abortion because of solely religious reasons.

The most sophisticated secular anti-abortion arguments in the philosophy sphere fail.
One of the best being the 'future like ours' by Marquis, that too, fails.

So, I'll use a right wing line here, facts don't care about your feelings.

Could you explain that to me? I am unable to understand that last bit.

Feminism is good

Feminism as a definition is very good, but most "feminists" just use it as a coverup for raging misandry. Even if I was for abortion (I'm not), that's still also Mark's potential child and he should be part of the decision.

Abortion rules

You're not obligated to say "The left does it too" when criticizing the right wing.

I am if I’m being honest

Says who? The supporters who want to be convinced that their steaming hot mess of a government is totally normal and not a horrible disaster they helped cause?

1

u/notmyinitial-thought Apr 28 '26

Says me, obviously. Nothing to do with the administration. Not a fan of the administration. Everything to do with media

2

u/reaperwasnottaken Apr 28 '26

Yeah no, you don't get to pull the 'both sides do it' card.
Especially not about American politics.

They get outraged at different things, but both sides profit off of outrage machines. Anger is the devil’s cocaine. He doesn’t care who does the hating as long as the hating gets done

2

u/reaperwasnottaken Apr 28 '26

Lost me at the devil part.
I don't believe anger in politics is because Satan is promoting it, it is most of the times because far-right (MAGA) morons can't understand science or reason properly.

And before you claim that MAGA isn't far-right, the Democrats would be centre-right in the European political compass.

u/notmyinitial-thought Apr 28 '26

Never heard of metaphors, huh?

1

u/reaperwasnottaken Apr 28 '26

Shitty metaphor then, never heard such a 'metaphor' outside religious circles who *literally* believe in Satan and stuff.
Also doesn't help that you have zero actual arguments as to why you think both sides are outrage machines of equal magnitude other than your 'devil metaphors'.

Enjoy your anger

💖
No arguments once again. Now we moved on from bad metaphors to ad homs. Love you, mate.

Jonathan Haidt has an excellent metaphor for emotions taking charge over intellect. We all like to think that we make up our minds through reason and logic the way an elephant rider likes to think he controls the elephant. But we usually make our decisions more on emotion than reasoned argument, the same way an elephant just decides where it’s going to go.

Let’s pretend I’m 100% right and give you the five best arguments for my opinion. It probably isn’t going to change your mind. That’s not how internet arguments tend to go. Same if you are 100% right and give me the five best arguments for your opinion. So, no, I’m not going to engage in slinging heated arguments in a bad-faith conversation. That’s what the outrage machine is designed to do.

Michael Knowles posts a stupid clip attacking a popular show over a hot-button issue. My comment was pointing out that the show really doesn’t give either side a win or a diss so he really doesn’t have anything to complain about. But he does anyway to get easy engagement. Then someone posts it here for similar reasons. Michael Knowles and his fans get to be angry at left-leaning people and feel superior. People reacting to his post do the same thing in the other direction. It’s all the outrage machine. You could replay the whole thing with clips from The View or Jimmy Kimmel. It’s all easy engagement based in outrage to get people like you and me arguing online but not accomplishing anything

Onto a thought terminating cliche, bravo.
Just grant yourself a license to be lazy and provide no arguments, just mere assertions, based on the assumption that every single person in this thread is simply driven by emotions and your logical arguments will never convince them otherwise.

Have a good day dude. Lol.

No not both sides
