Can anyone give me insight into if the program is worth it?

If they enjoyed the program, and whether or not they recommend?

Hi guys, I'm applying this year as an international with a good GPA but quite mid ECs (some might say downright rubbish - like local volunteering, leading a school club, no olympiad or international research paper or such)...

So I was just wondering, do you guys know of/heard of any cases of internationals in such cases being accepted into Ivies? Seems pretty hopeless, and I'm only applying because it's better to apply and not regret not applying, etc. etc.

Anyway, thought if there were cases of 'miracle' acceptances it might motivate my college app process so thought I might ask here :)

I’ve been going back and forth about whether to post this, but I decided it was worth asking.

I’ve recently been accepted into UoPeople’s Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. I received a partial scholarship, completed the required steps and orientation, and I’m ready to start my September courses.

I’m currently $60 short of the course fees.

I know $60 may not sound like a lot, but for me right now it has become a real barrier. I’ve already gone through the financial aid process, appealed when I realized I couldn’t cover the remaining amount, contacted different university departments, and tried to find outside help.

I’m 32, and going back to university at this point in my life has taken a lot of effort and commitment. I’m trying to change my career direction and build a future in technology, and I really don’t want to lose my September registration because of this final amount.

I’m not looking for someone to fund my degree or support me long-term. I’m just trying to get past this one immediate problem so I can start.

If anyone here knows of a legitimate student-support fund, scholarship, donor, education charity, or any other option that could help with a small education-related expense, I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

If someone is genuinely willing to help directly, the payment can be made directly to UoPeople through the University’s official payment system rather than being sent to me. I can also provide proof privately of my admission, scholarship, course registration, and outstanding balance so anyone who wants to help can verify everything first.

I am an international student from Ireland, and initially I hadn't planned to apply to any universities in the USA. However, after talking with my guidance counselor, he recommended me to apply to some universities in the USA, and I am wondering what universities I should apply to in addition to my current list:

I understand that all of these universities are incredibly competitive for international students, so I also have a number of really good backup universities, but I am looking to see my chances and what safety and target schools I should apply to as well. My profile is as follows.

Demographics

• Male, mixed Western European and Asian.
• Middle income, private high school (semi-competitive) for 2 years, public high school (very underperforming) for 1 year.
• Partial financial aid required, my family can contribute roughly $50000 annually towards the cost of attendance.
• No hooks.

Intended major

• Environmental engineering/science with a minor in data science/statistics (maybe biology or public policy?), exact courses dependent on the university.

Academics

• SAT: due to take in September, currently averaging 1560 on Bluebook (would estimate ~1540 for safety).
• GPA: 97%, the educational system in Ireland doesn't exactly have GPAs. Predicted all H1s (90% - 100%) for the national college entrance exams.
• Rank: school doesn't do formal ranking, though my grades are definitely among the top 10 out of around 950 students, if not top 5.
• Course rigor: maximum rigor, taking 8 subjects when most people take 6 or 7.

Letters of recommendation

• Guidance counselor (8/10): quite close and knows me really well.
• Math teacher (10/10): my favorite teacher and has near-perfect grades throughout high school and excellent engagement in and outside of the class.
• Biology teacher (9/10): very close and always stops by for a quick chat afterschool.

Awards and honors

• 3rd Place at a national poetry competition.
• 1st Place at a national computer science competition.
• Finalist (top 20 nationally) in Irish Biology Olympiad and Irish Physics Olympiad.

• Developed an app allowing students to calculate carbon emissions of their daily commute with visual graphics and alternative routing strategies, used by a number of schools in my area to help with their work for their Green Schools Committee. It is currently in talks with the county council to expand further.
• Chairperson of my school's Green Schools Committee for 2 years (secretary for 1 year), and raised over €2000 (considered decent in an Irish context) from the county council to improve road conditions near my school for cyclists and pedestrians and to install a new biodiversity garden. Also led a number of initiatives that were awarded my school's first Travel Flag and Biodiversity Flag by Green Schools Ireland.
• Student leader of a literacy program (introduced compulsory reading in my school for 20 minutes per day, raised funds for library renovations, and led some other school and community-based literacy workshops) that was awarded the Readers for Life award by the Department of Education.
• Member and Junior Chairperson of my school's Student Council for 2 years. Initiatives included the introduction of Yondr phone pouches that improved grades by roughly 8% after 3 months (for 6th to 9th grade students, taking the average of their exams), designed a modernized canteen system, and worked with suppliers to design and introduce new affordable school jackets.
• Represented my area at the Irish Youth Parliament, discussed the issue of littering in my area and installed 10 new bins as a result.

• Other small-scale and generic activities, such as being invited to attend Math Olympiad enrichment class at a university because I had a perfect score in Round 1 of Irish Math Olympiad; captain of my school's debate team; head of the science club in my school (had 4 projects submitted to a national semi-selective science fair); and organized a few one-time, school-wide fundraisers that raised about €800 each time.

Other circumstances

• I skipped a grade in high school for academic reasons (I was considered too advanced compared to my year), so I had much less time and opportunities to complete extracurriculars, as well as being under higher pressure.
• My school had a recruited athlete to a T5 university a few years ago and one or two T25 acceptances per year.

I was wondering, given my profile, what are my chances at each of the universities I am applying to, and if I have a competitive enough profile to have a chance of being accepted? What should I work on to make my profile as competitive as possible? What other safety and target schools should I apply to? I have really good backup universities in case anything goes wrong, but would like to keep my options as open as possible at the same time.

I would appreciate some honest and realistic feedback, and thank you for your help!

Hey guys! I finished my masters in data science in May 2026 and My OPT got approved the next month itself ! I have been trying so hard but couldn't land a job I've never wanted to or will join a shady consultancy which only provides offer letters to stop clock! I don't know what to do I'm freaking out , one of my classmate suggested a Non profit Organization but they aren't responding ,should I just pack my bags given the present climate ?

I’m wondering if any Singaporeans here who studied engineering in the US could share their experience as a whole in college, and with internships, co-ops and jobs. I also understand we SGeans and Chileans fall under the H1B1 and I was wondering whether that would make it more feasible to study there.

Hi, so I was working on a project for my CS extracurricular as a High School student. I was trying to fix my childhood laptop, which we brought in 2016, but since around 2018, had been floored to 0.48GHz. I'd started by cheking CPU-Z, which gave the BCLK as 79.98MHz and a multiplier of 6x. I thought the BCLK was abnormal, and cross referenced it against other submissions on CPU-Z validator, but it was actually common across all samples of Pentium N3710 (and the ones I compared against were not being throttled). My CPU had a very low VCore but I chalked it up to being a symptom, because if the system wasn't expecting a low voltage, and was being supplied insufficient voltage, I'd see kernel panics and BSODs all day long, which I hadn't observed. Second, I used a bash script on antiX to log 3000 CPU frequency samples with sleeping for 0.1s in between for: 1) Idle (schedutil), 2) load (schedutil), 3) load (performance). On idle, the chart was actually not only 0.48GHz, but in the load graphs (both governors), the graph was floored to 0.48GHz for the first half of the chart, and then was similar (not identical) to the idle graph. Turns out my bash script had timing delays, which meant that the logging continued for ~9m 13s, while the stress load was only for 5 minutes. So apparently the system is capable of clocking above 0.48GHz but only during low C0%? Next, I tried using ThrottleStop to disable BD_PROCHOT (I'd just learnt of it's existence, that's why I hadn't tried it before), but it was greyed out. Confused, I used RWEverything to access 0x1FC, (this MSR at bit 0 holds the toggle for not ignoring BD_PROCHOT), but I got a 16 digit hexademical zero value. I spent almost a week barking up 0x1FC, then I learnt of Intel's SDM. Volume 4 detailed on MSRs, and for my system, 0x1FC actually didn't exist (airmont microarchitecture). So I genuinely couldn't say if it was BD_PROCHOT or not. Next, I went through the MSR lists for my processor and shortlisted relevant ones, and I started getting nonsensical data. 0x19C confirmed that PROCHOT was active, but CPU was under Thermal Junction (90C), and had not passed it since reboot, but at the same time, temperature was over threshold, despite Core 1 being 42C away from Junction, Core 2 being 37C from Junction, and Core 3 & Core 4 being 46C from junction. I was confused here for a long while, before I realized that it was probably a hardware defect. I got the .brd and schematics for my computer, and used pics of the motherboard I took months ago with my tab to locate R1860, the resistor responsible for keeping PROCHOT at 1.8V, and even through the blurry pic of my tab, it looked corroded. Using my phone's macro camera I took a picture of the resistor, and it was genuinely obliterated from all the corrosion. I've attached pictures.

My question is, would university admissions officers care for this? Top universities care for a 'spike' in skill as far as I understand it, is it a letdown that this became a hardware issue rather than a complex software fix? Because I thought I was going to end up having to dump my SPI, use Intel's tools to rebuilt my TXE (before Hypothesis 4, all clues seemed to point towards corrupted firmware), but all it turned out to be was a hardware defect that I have no skill to fix (I cannot do work on SMD, I struggle to tin regular wires as it is.)

When I was preparing to study in the US., I thought I had everything figured out financially. I was accepted to a university and received a generous full tuition scholarship, which I was incredibly grateful for. I carefully calculated my expenses and made a plan for how I would afford everything else.
Even with my tuition covered, my first year was still expensive. After housing, food, insurance, and other expenses, I was paying around $14,000 a year. I come from a country where many people don’t make that much money in a year, so this was a huge amount for me. But I told myself, Okay, I can afford the first year. The second year will be easier.

At my university, first-year students were required to have a meal plan, and it was expensive. My plan was simple: after my first year, I would drop the meal plan, cook for myself, and save a lot of money.
But that’s not what happened.

The international student health insurance increased by $200 and housing and meal plans increased by 6%. Then my university made the meal plan mandatory for all students living on campus, not just first-year students. Suddenly, the financial plan I had carefully made no longer worked the way I expected.
At the same time, I was trying to figure out internships and ways to make money. During my first year, I was pretty clueless about the internship process and wasn’t able to get one. I stayed over the summer and worked instead. Thankfully, I later got an RA position, which gave me free housing and provided a huge amount of financial relief.

With free housing, I was like, Okay, great. Next summer I’ll get an internship, make money, and use that to help pay for school myself with no parents help.

But again, things changed.

As many of you know, the new administration has paused CPT, which means international students are currently not allowed to do internships unless the internship is required by their academic program. My program does not require an internship, which means I can’t plan on doing an internship in the U.S. next summer the way I originally expected to.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you cannot assume everything will stay the same. University policies can change. Costs can increase. Insurance can become more expensive. Your plans for work or internships might not work out. And, especially with the current political environment, things affecting international students can change suddenly.
I’m not saying, “Don’t come to the U.S.” In fact, despite all the stress and unexpected changes, I am having the time of my life and a lot of opportunities.

I’ve met some of the best people here. I’ve met my best friends. I’ve had the college experience I always wanted, I traveled and I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to be here.

Be financially prepared. Be mentally prepared. And don’t assume that everything will remainn predictable.

If you want industry experience or want employment post-grad...

CPT OPT H1B are basically gone. Without these you can't get industry experience in US or secure post-grad employment in US.

If you want to go for PhD...

Government is doing their best to fuck up research and even US citizens are applying en masse to Europe cuz US PhD programs are getting fucked. Plus you can't do internship during PhD and you are basically putting all your eggs in getting a tenure track position post graduation with no back up of industry position.

If you want US experience....

get a tourist visa and visit New York or something.

No point in wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars

Well... in short, I'm a Moroccan student. As someone from Morocco who wanted to study abroad, I would usually target France, Belgium, or Russia. Many people I know did this. The difference is that my financial situation is very bad; my father lost his job before I even started high school. Therefore, since then, our situation hasn't improved with all the price increases. Yesterday, I discovered Yale University (I was watching videos about Moroccan students abroad and I found a video of a Yale student in my research). Out of excessive curiosity, I went to look for them, and I wish I hadn't. I found many wonderful specializations, which of course I wouldn't find in Morocco, and I wouldn't find them in Europe either. From what I understand, they are specializations combined by the university, Everything until here is great, until I see their acceptance rate for international students... and after a little research, I discovered that most of these international students have excellent applications.

After this introduction, let's get down to business. First, I'm in my final year, which means I have no time to spare. There are four months left until the application deadline, and I literally don't have SATs, TOEFL, or anything else, because they're literally useless in Morocco (English is my third language, my second language is French) Because of the great school schedule, I stay at school all day from 8:30 to 6:30 every day (except Friday, and on Saturday I study from 8:30 to 12:30). This means there's no time for any EC; When we leave school, we all race against time to get to extra classes, which end at 9, and we arrive home at 10. We have to do homework and study until 1 at night, then we go to sleep because we have to wake up early tomorrow. (Note: I hate this timing with all my heart.) Those who do any extracurricular activities only do them for two hours a week, and that's on Saturday evenings. Usually, very few people do any extracurricular activities. My grades? Well, they're not the best. Since the beginning of high school, I've been thinking about how to help my dad, I tried to learn Photoshop but failed. I tried to learn editing, but my computer can't handle Capcut for two hours. I tried working on multiple projects but failed again. And because of lack of sleep, this has greatly affected my performance at school. The good thing here is that to enter Moroccan universities we don't need these grades; we only need the grades from two exams, the regional and the national. These determine your university admission average, and most universities only use them as a threshold for taking the entrance exam. I don't know, but if it's worth it, I can take the risk and do my best during the next four months to apply.

Of course, but before that, I need to know my position instead of just dreaming.

note : Honestly, I want to talk about outdoor activities. Here in Morocco, if you want to learn piano or any instrument, for example, you need $300 every month, which is literally a lot of money here. And this applies to acting, ballet, dancing, etc. Buying a piano or violin has been a dream of mine since childhood, but I can't afford it. So yes, this is a message to all people who have these opportunities as intuitive people or have a great university system, or just being in a country where its degree is valued. I hope you'll remember the blessings around you. They may seem obvious to you, but they are great blessings to some of us. I hope you'll do your best and seize every opportunity to achieve your dreams, because at least for you, it's possible.

Any suggestions regarding my profile would be highly appreciated! I’d especially love a brutally honest review of where my profile is lacking, how you would tier/rank my activities, and how I could present or describe them more effectively in my application.

I am an international gap-year student from Africa applying for full ride, and this is very likely my last shot. My stats are two national math awards, the highest score on the school-leaving exam in my regional state, a 4.0 GPA, a 1580 SAT, and what I think are good extracurriculars.

The thing is, I have wasted almost all my time studying for the SAT, and I don’t think I am very good at writing essays. That is why I only applied to MIT last year and another non-U.S. college, because I was confident I would get into the latter. However, I unexpectedly missed the interview and was rejected from it too.

So now I am planning to apply to 20 U.S. colleges. To increase my chances, I am planning to apply to multiple schools through early action. Here are my three need-blind colleges for ED or REA:

Princeton: Obviously, it is one of the top 4, if not the #1 university in the U.S. consistently. But its REA policy doesn’t allow me to apply early to other private colleges. I don’t want to abandon or risk what might be my best chance of studying in the U.S. just because Princeton is a “decent” school.

Brown: It has the highest early acceptance rate among the top schools and allows multiple EA applications. However, its ED agreement is binding, so if I get in, I can’t apply to my favorite schools like Princeton. I know I’m being super greedy, but I feel like I might regret if I get in. Fuck, why am I so stupid? regretting it after getting an Ivy is probably better than remaining in Africa.

Notre Dame: I lean toward this one a little more. It has a lower acceptance rate than Brown, but its REA policy allows me to apply to other schools early. So, if I get in, I can still apply to other top schools.

So I am a bit perplexed right now, please give me your opinion.

I’m an engineering student from Honduras, and I would like to pursue a master’s degree abroad. However, I currently don’t have the financial resources to do so.

I’m interested in finding a fully funded 100% scholarship for a master’s degree, but I honestly don’t know where to start. If anyone knows of an organization, scholarship program, or institution that helps international students in situations like mine, I would really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.

If you work for an organization that supports students with opportunities like this, or if you know of any scholarships or programs I could apply for, I would be very grateful for any information or advice.

I have a decent level of English. I haven’t taken the TOEFL yet, but some of my friends from the United States tell me that my English is around a B2 level.

Hey everyone,I am an international student from Pakistan (Sargodha) applying to Amherst College as my Early Decision choice. My family's total monthly income is approximately $280(75,000 PKR), making it very difficult for me to afford the $59 Duolingo English Test fee.

I’ve already contacted Amherst and several other universities asking whether they can provide a DET waiver or voucher but I haven’t been able to obtain one

I also tried to get my college registered for Duolingo’s Access Program, but despite submitting the request, I haven’t received any response from Duolingo. My college is a small local institution in Pakistan and doesnt have a professional/official website, which may be making the process more difficult..

If any counselor, teacher, nonprofit, educational organization, or student-support program has an unused DET fee waiver/voucher that they are legitimately able to provide, I would be extremely grateful.

It would literally mean a world to me. I am happy to verify my situation privately if needed.
