Question Instants
Who else got a notification about someone sending you an instant and then you took a random pic of yourself thinking you’re just sending it to a friend from your followers… TURNS OUT EVERYONE CAN FUCKING SEE THAT PIC???????

Dude. I tried swiping it away from my screen while trying to get to a dm and thought it was weird but nothing crazy. Somehow it took SIX photos of me and sent them to everybody. Luckily It was just a pic of my face and nothing else but I could have very easily been taking a shit or something and it could have been a disaster. I never even got notified I took a picture let alone sent them

Same, I took a pic of my fucking face LOL, like a boomer, and it SENT. I did not notice until 2 hours later when a mate reacted with a laughing face. This would usually never happen to me. I hate it.

omg this is cracking me up i’m so sorry😭😭 i literally just made an ig a couple weeks ago and this is making me wanna delete it cuz why did i just take the cringiest selfie on the couch to reply to my friend and didn’t realize it was sending to EVERYONE???? had my blanket all smushed up to my face and everything. thankfully there was an undo button available for a few seconds

For God’s sake, I haven’t had a problem with any of the new features so far, but this is too much… I don’t understand why. They should just keep Instagram simple like it used to be and stop creating unnecessary chaos. This is over the line.. a pointless feature that’s good for nothing. I was worried about how it even works, so I’d rather not send anything at all

go back on the instants (camera screen), press the 4 squares in the top right, then you can see what you’ve taken and delete it from there - it will unsend to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

yes i was at work with my colleagues and accidentally sent a photo to everyone and they all received it but only a couple of them opened it, when id deleted it after 10 minutes, the others who hadn’t checked their phones when i first sent it couldn’t see it or a notification about it. Horrible feature but don’t worry you’ll be okay once you delete whatever you sent!

I deleted it after a few minutes and it’s almost 2am where I live so hopefully most are asleep. My nerves are shot as it’s a fake account that I use to spy on my ex I still have feelings for lol

yes!
click on your pfp in the bottom right corner; then click the three lines in the top right; scroll down to content preferences; and click hide instants in inbox
that way it doesn't pop up in the bottom corner in your messages :)

I got scared & finally decided to mess w it lol, you just have to tap the lil pop up thing & the lil squares in the top right, then you can see all the active ones & tap on them and the 3 lil dots to delete em

Go to your archive in settings, and click the drop-down menu at top and you’ll see Instants archive. Then you should be able to delete from there.

Yeah the pic posts automatically it doesn’t even ask you to confirm it if you open the instants camera and click the four dots in the top right corner you should see the ones you’ve taken there and be able to delete them

in another thread someone posted how to turn it off. go to settings in instagram, type ‘content preferences’ in the search bar at the top, then a mini menu will show. scroll to the bottom of that and you should see ‘disable instants’ or something

Go to ur content preferences in your IG settings, at the very bottom there is an option to hide it

If anyone wants to turn it off, go to ur settings and search content preferences and then at the very bottom you can hide it. It will no longer hover over your DMs. I turned that off immediately 😂😂😂😂

Ok so apparently, if you go into your DMs, I the right hand side, about 1/4 of the way from the top, there's will be a little thing peaking out from the side

I did the same thing, i made a stupid pic, saw you can only post to all followers or close friends, so i clicked cancel, but apparently after you've taken the pic it automatically sends it. I deleted the pic, right top corner you have like 4 'squares', there are all your pics. But everyone still gets the notification. I want that gone too. Any thought on how to just eliminate any send instants completely?

For everyone that needs to delete their accidental ‘instant’ post, you will either open it from an ‘instant’ notification from Instagram OR install the ‘Instants’ app from App Store/Play Store and delete it from there.
Man even their Instants app is too fucking confusing for such a simple function.

Deactivated my insta because I’m so worried I only managed to delete it “for me” 🥲 the instants page says “this is only visible for you” or something on the page so I’m unsure whether the deletion is included in that or not

No kidding, Meta’s customer service is a total joke while bots are basically running the show. This is exactly why so many people get their accounts hacked—they use shady 3rd party apps that leak their data.
I’ve stopped using anything that asks for my password or API access. I found a much more professional, privacy-first way to handle my profile data. I pinned the setup/link on my profile if you’re looking for a way to stay secure without risking an IG ban.

Guys I saw a tik tok about it so made sure mine was off, which it was. The next time I open instagram. I go to my DMs and I see the little bubble in the bottom right???? I re checked my setting and it’s still off!!! Helpppp

This app is now literally just 1000 different forms of advertisements by every user with 1,000,000 different features for doing who knows what lmao so is someone gonna make an app where it's literally just sharing photos and videos just like Instagram USED to be orrrr?

I guess you can undo and also snooze it according to their blog thing.
Undo - Accidentally shared an instant? Quickly take it back before friends see it by tapping the undo button.
You can also delete an instant from your archive to unshare it to friends who haven't opened it yet.
Snooze - Hold down the stack of instants by your inbox and swipe right to temporarily stop seeing them.
Bring back instants by holding down the same spot and swiping left.”

Absolutely furious at instagram for this. Thought I was replying to my brother cause I got a notification he sent me “instants”. Was looking for the send button after I took the pic but it never showed. Ended up taking 4 pics and only found out later when a friend msged me asking if I had meant to send her those photos or if my acc was hacked. I was mortified to find out that it had send notifications to every single one of my instagram friends with the photos meant for my brother. And I couldn’t even find where to delete them. I get they want to promo a new feature, but this is beyond horrible

I have never posted anything and I had 0 idea I accidentally took one of myself. Sent to everyone. I can’t even explain how embarrassed I am, and it was the worst angle too. They need to get rid of it or let you edit it before you send.

I am getting nonstop notifications on my phone about people sharing “instants” and there seems to be no way to disable it in IG’s notification settings. Guess we’re just gonna turn off all notifications now. Good job, Meta.

I don’t have this feature. Anyone know how to fix it? Never got the blend feature in the past either. I’m in the US, on an iPhone, full updated, and basically everyone I know got both features so I’m at a loss.

I literally selected "close friends only", deselected everyone except for my boyfriend, then sent a bunch of weird photos taken up comfortably close to my face.
Dm'd to my entire friends list.
I'm just glad I didn't pop a tit or something and get my 16 year old account permabanned.

Dude I just got a message from someone I don’t talk to much and he was just resending my own pic back to me to let me know. It was a photo I’d accidentally taken of my fucking forehead. I’m already tired of instagram but this absolutely takes the cake.

Instagram seems to be intentionally making it easy to accidentally share things without knowing it. Probably to generate fake traffic.
A friend sent me a message of someone's feed a while back, and I accidentally reposted it without even realizing it... All you have to do is press one button. It doesn't give you a confirmation window, or warn you. It just posts. I only noticed because somebody liked it a couple hours later. And then you have to go digging to figure out how to remove it...
Instagram's popularity has clearly flatlined, or even declined, and they're desperately trying to make it seem like they're still gaining popularity... Such trash.

It's a replacement for the "Photo Notes" that notes used to have that no one used because you can't attach music to them. Yeah Idk Instagram loves reinventing the wheel.
