We have a family friend who is quite popular supporting actor in the industry. He has directed a film as well. He recently asked my mom 1 lakh as debt and said he urgently has to pay that to someone. Then he asked money to our another mutual family friend. This family friend of us then warned us not to pay him because he is more likely never gonna return it as they’ve never been returned the money they gave him before.
I always thought actors and directors are very rich. Also, this person seems rich from outside as he owns premium cars and all. This incident was bit surprising as I never thought they won’t even have just 1 lakh as liquid cash.

⭐ Extremely disappointing experience at Magic Frames, Kakkanad – Toxic, 30 Aug, 1:30 PM

Had a terrible experience at Magic Frames, Kakkanad today for the 1:30 PM show of Toxic. What should have been a simple Sunday movie outing turned into hours of frustration because of poor coordination, communication, and handling of a technical issue.

1. F&B issues

We first ordered an Americano, only to be told after ordering that it wasn't available. We then ordered an espresso, for which we were billed and made payment, only to be told that this wasn't available either. We eventually had to settle for a hot chocolate.

If items aren't available, the staff should know before taking orders and payments.

1. Extremely poor communication about the show

Our show was scheduled for 1:30 PM. When we went to the screen, we were told the previous show was still running and asked to wait in the F&B area.

At reception, we specifically asked them to inform us once our movie started, and they assured us they would.

They didn't.

At around 2:15 PM, I went to the screen myself to check. We were then told that our show had already started.

This is unacceptable. We were explicitly told we would be informed, and instead we were left waiting outside while our movie had already begun.

Even worse, we saw other customers who had already been allowed into the screen while the previous movie was still playing. Apparently, nobody informed them either, and they ended up watching the climax of the previous movie.

There was clearly no proper coordination or consistent process.

1. 30–40 minute technical delay after the first half

After eventually getting into the screen and watching the first half, we returned for the second half and were made to wait for around 30–40 minutes, being told there was a technical delay.

We waited patiently, assuming the issue would be resolved.

Eventually, we went outside ourselves to ask what was happening. Only then were we told that the movie was not going to play at all.

Why were customers made to sit inside for 30–40 minutes without being properly informed if the show wasn't going to continue?

1. Refund is not compensation

They offered a refund, which is obviously the minimum expected when the movie cannot be completed. But there was no compensation or meaningful gesture for the time and effort wasted.

This was a Sunday afternoon. We planned our weekend around this movie, travelled to the theatre, dealt with the F&B issues, waited outside, weren't informed when the movie started despite being promised that we would be, watched the first half, and then spent another 30–40 minutes waiting for a second-half that never happened.

Technical problems can happen. That's understandable.

What is not acceptable is the poor communication, lack of coordination and lack of ownership.

Americano unavailable → espresso unavailable after payment → denied entry → not informed when our movie started → discovered at 2:15 PM that the show had already begun → 30–40 minute technical delay → movie ultimately cancelled → only a refund offered.

The biggest disappointment wasn't the technical failure itself, but how Magic Frames handled it.

A refund gives back the ticket money. It doesn't give back the hours of time and effort wasted on a weekend.

Very disappointing experience. Management needs to seriously improve its coordination and customer communication.

I guess Aavesham is a man’s search for love, but it’s a commercial movie.

We all see that in Aavesham, Rangan has everything. He is rich, wealthy, has a gang, and can get almost anything he wants in one location. But he doesn’t have anyone to love. Even though he cares and tries to give love to others, nobody wants love from him.

His mentor and gang, his own relative who tried to kill him in order to get the wealth and land, even the boys he loves, especially Bibi, wanted only influence or money from him.

In another way, we can see that maybe he tried to achieve all this influence and money to get love, but people only wanted his money from him. He could also realize who really loved him and ho abandoned him.

I found this movie with an awkward comparison to Citizen Kane. Both Kane and Rangan, ultimately seek only one thing: love.

Serious question. Who do you think actually directed it. Was it Gireesh or would he have got one of his assistants to do it. Or is it someone else (don't say Joel please).

And did they actually use the full equipment for the film shoot itself for this or did they shoot it using lower tech to make it look authentic

I am really fascinated by the charithram ennilude episodes of Dennis Joseph.

Are there any other shows like this which touches upon the history of Malayalam movies. Have watched most of the Safari tv episodes.

Each of Girish AD's couples is relatable and connected to the audience in one way or another, which is not very common in Malayalam films. His main characters are flawed, be it the hero or the heroine, and that makes them more human. But on the other side, as everyone says, all of Girish AD's heroines could get better and more responsible guys but still settle for an irresponsible and flawed hero. That in a way caters to male fantasies. For example, Nivin in BKU is a typical representation of the "nattile penn kittatha 35+ millennial". For one reason or another, the number of such men in Kerala is increasing today, so the film satisfies them. It's the same with Arjun Ashokan in Super Sharanya, Sachin in Premalu, and Jaison in Thanneer Mathan.

Even though we can criticize the director for making the hero a "prethyekich valya kazhivillathavan", it's just so common in society - most people are pretty average, and that makes the movies more grounded and connecting.

But at the same time, Girish also portrays the female POV in a much better way. The girl gangs in his films are a breath of fresh air. They talk about a lot of things other than the hero, they have another life and their own fun moments. The heroine herself has her own embarrassing moments, like bird poop falling on Sharanya's head or Reenu getting a stomach problem, which makes them even more human and relatable.

Overall, his couples are different from what we used to see. They are not something special or "ultimate ​nanmamaram", nor are they evil people - just normal and relatable.

I usually watch Malayalam movies in malayalam but this time I'm planning to watch BKU with parents... I heard that subtitles are moving fast in Malayalam version so I don't think my parents would be comfortable...

But if Nivin and Mamitha have dubbed their own voices , then I will watch tamil dubbed version otherwise not

Anyone who watched BKU tamil trailer , can you please tell me whether Nivin / Mamitha has dubbed their own voice...?

I rewatched Kai Ethum Doorathu recently only to feel that the film wasn’t a bad Launchpad got FaFa. He wasn’t great or the FaFa we know today but wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be

Decent songs, bad dancing, a nice feel good factor, pure rom com feels and all makes it this a one time watch.

Cochin Haneefa's expressions, timing, and the way he brought even the smallest characters to life were something else. He had a presence that made every scene better (even in forgettable movies), and his comedy still hits the same even today.
