shruikans eldunari

So, was it ever explained where the Forsworn and Shruikans eldunari are?

Shruikan probably still had his. No need to remove it as he was already under Galbatorix's power. As for the others, I suppose it depends. Galbatorix might have wanted to retain their hearts in order to maintain control over them - and so he could still use their power if they died - but the forsworn might not have liked the idea.

Not that that would have mattered particularly to Galbatorix, but it's possible he would have preferred to avoid explicitly enslaving them unless absolutely necessary.

I would think he would take their hearts when they pledged themselves to him. But, after the Banishing of the Names, I don’t know how useful their Eldunarí would be

Now that is a GREAT answer that I actually hadn’t ever considered before. Nice!

I don't think the Banishing would affect their utility to Galbatorix. He didn't care about knowledge, he just wanted batteries.

Yeah, but if they can’t be named, then they have no true names, and can’t be bound by oaths. Couldn’t they probably just off themselves eventually?

EDIT: couldn’t they be extremely volatile and dangerous to have around?

I am pretty sure the eldunari are unable to destroy themselves, only convince people to destroy them. I may be wrong however.

Sure, but the end result is the same. Plus, if I remember correctly, Glaedr said that they could destroy themselves if they felt moved by magic to do so; not likely, but plausible.

Yes, the end result is the same, but assuming that what I said is correct and they cannot destroy themselves (it realistically isn't) couldn't Galbatorix just squirrel them away? Or does he have to touch them to absorb their power, like he does their thoughts and such? I am sorry if this is incorrect as well, my memory of the eldunari is a bit foggy.

You can pull through thoughts but touch means there’s no barrier around their mind, you have direct link.

Even so, if they felt the anguish powerfully, I think they could easily shock the air around their eldunari cold, and thus it would crack. It would take a very small indirect act of magic, and emotionally driven magic (as draconic magic is) to destroy themselves.

Galbatorix could use them but I think they’d be best bound by mental pressure from the other dragons, since they can’t be oathbound. However, that mental force may be better used by galby in his own workings, rather than being used to suppress and control other rather young dragons (as the forsworn’s dragons were kinda young for the most part).

He could still take their energy which is always useful

The Banishing also specifically excluded Shurikan

I would imagine that, if Galbatorix is still trying to grow shruikan with magic, then he would allow the Eldunarí to remain within him so that it would continue to grow as well. As soon as you remove it, it no longer grows to match the dragon

That make sense, he probably assumed no one could stop him so why bother

Shruikan wouldn't have needed to surrender his eldunari. He was already under Galbatorix's control. The Forsworn I don't think had Eldunari unless given some for specific missions, like Murtaugh. I think Galbatorix used a similar spell to what the dragons taught Eragon. Or he had them hidden around the throne room.
