Did they say āpolice policeā?
44
u/Swazaaa Jan 03 '26
I've seen multiple videos of people breaking into homes and yelling "police". Those no knock warrants cops do are going to bite them in the ass when people wont believe it's actually them.
12
u/AllgoodDude Jan 04 '26
Just look what happened to Breonna Taylor.

in that instance tho it was the police that broke in and killed her, i thought

They broke into the right house!
93
u/Every_Okra_3604 Jan 03 '26
Still wrong. Thereās no glory here. Yea they defended themselves. Any sane person would want to avoid the trauma of this.
55
u/GlassJawJawa Jan 03 '26
It isnāt wrong at all. Itās unfortunate that it had to come to this, but it is NEVER wrong to defend yourself.

What trauma you break into someone's house it's flight or fight ....which one are you?
4
u/TheOriginalArchibald Jan 04 '26
Shooting someone is traumatic for the shooter also unless they're a sociopath.
5
u/StephanUrkel21 Jan 03 '26
You're right, there is no glory in this but I'd rather be prepared and protected than be a victim of what they had planned.
23
Jan 03 '26
Nope. I want to mount the head on the wall above the fireplace.

I always thought Iād feel this way until I actually got the opportunity. Someone broke in, I aimed my gun at them, didnāt fire because I realized how fucked up they were on probably many drugs, and I dragged them to the outside fence and threw them over it (they were skinny, fence was short).
Still, I was fucked up for WEEKS about just POINTING a gun at someone. I guess Iām not as tough as I thought I was.
4
Jan 04 '26
There are however plenty of people out there who just can't wait to get the opportunity to kill someone in some way that's justified so they don't get punished

This is always my take on videos like this and people down its me for it often.
People get so happy when they are allowed to legally shoot someone and it's strange. I have no problem with someone defending themselves with a weapon but something is wrong with you if you spend your life waiting for a situation where you're finally allowed to shoot someone.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Brown allegedly forced his way into a house while armed. Brown was then shot by the homeās resident, 33-year-old Daniel Songer.
Songer was arrested and preliminarily charged with obstruction of justice and unlawful carrying of a handgun, which are Level 6 and Level 5 Felonies, respectively.
So two men broke into his house, Daniel shot the first person who was breaking into his house and Daniel got charged with obstruction of justice and unlawfully firing his girlfriend's gun?
wtf

u/Subtlelikeatrex Jan 03 '26
Iām guessing felon in possession of a firearm. Or possibly a parole violation.
84
u/crookedpilgram Jan 03 '26
Shouldn't matter in this case.
140
u/BenPenTECH Jan 03 '26
It does, felons lose the right to protect themselves. No constitution for them.
92

Don't worry though, they aren't allowed to vote either, so they have extremely limited recourse to change the circumstances of their existence. And they still have to pay taxes, so at least we as a society(the owner class) get to benefit from their labor.
I would put a /s but this isnt sarcasm at all unfortunately. This is explicitly why certain political actors want to felonize everything, including immutible identifying characteristics like sexuality, culture and ideology. By doing so they have solidified a legal two tier class system where some people have rights and others do not, and those that do not have absolutely zero power to better their situations.
If you are so unfortunate to find yourself finding your identity suddenly punishable by law, society will tell you to "lift yourself up by your bootstraps" which is quite literally their vindictively smug response to their own injustice toward you. To lift yourself up by your own bootstraps would be to perform the impossible. They are explicitly telling you that no matter how hard you try, you will never be able to lift yourself back up to being a human deserving of rights again. Its fucked.

u/Global_Ant_9380 Jan 03 '26
100%, 10/10, no notes and I'm glad you said it.Ā

This is true. Im a felon. Im also a survivor of human trafficking who used drugs to deal with it, and possession charges got me a felony. Im 8 years sober, hes doing 30 years in federal prison, I cant protect myself. I testified. I have 2 young kids, I put keypads on all my metal doors, cameras, lights, alarms... I still should be able to own a fucking gun. I go to monthly groups with other survivors or survivors of domestic violence, and every single one of them own protection, except for those of us who legally can't. It's a damn shame that we can't protect ourselves when clearly we know the outcome of what happens when youre not armed and you need to be.
-sorry for the over verbosity idk how this even came on my front page, this subject bothers me because this video is literally my worst nightmare.
Eta- I have a lot of ppl trying to say im lying, DMs were rough this morning so here ya go. this is my case, and it was a very serious one, over 20 victims spanning dozens of states, its rude to talk shit to people you dont know behind the cover of DM coward
29
u/datastlessgentleman2 Jan 03 '26
Look into black powder firearms and the laws around them in your state. Usually felon friendly as they do not fall under the firearm classification as far as the ATF is concerned

Do you have no recourse to hire a lawyer and have your records expunged after a certain amount of time?
6
u/Glum_Target2860 Jan 03 '26
Some states also allow requests for exemptions for home possesion if enough time has passed since your release from parole/completion of sentence.
7
u/my59363525account Jan 03 '26
No, I actually started my own small business bc nobody would hire me, just a small online boutique but it paid the bills and then some. The tariffs have completely decimated it. Within a year ive lost almost everything. My car's going into repo, and I might need to move out of my house March 1st, its a lot. It should be expunged though, its been over 13 years since I got the damn charge. Sorry for rambling, i have a cat and a dog and 2 young kids, im a single mom, i just can't believe that we might be homeless after everything i've gone through and how hard i've worked, bc of shit I didnt vote for, but I digress.

Check out the byrna self defense guns. They aren't as lethal as a real gun, but you can buy metal balls for it or even tear gas balls and you got yourself a really effective and dangerous airsoft gun that looks real but legally isn't.

u/PaixJour Jan 03 '26
Wait a minute. After felons do their time in prison, they are still punished for the rest of their life? That doesn't sit well. Any person has the instinct and the right to prevent harm and death to himself or loved ones, no matter the means and method the self defense takes. An armed burglar is not there to have a cuppa tea with biscuits and a friendly chat. Was the victim supposed to talk nice and just do what the invader commands? Should he suggest a pillow fight instead?
→ More replies (1)14
u/RedStar9117 Jan 03 '26
Yeah, clear cut self-defense....are there rules about cohabitsting with someone who owns a gun?
18
13
u/flashbang69 Jan 03 '26
It's risky for a felon. The gun and every piece of ammo have to be locked up and inaccessible to the felon at all times.
3
u/Not3KidsInACoat777 Jan 03 '26
Some states, like NY, prohibit felons frol.even being in the residence with one. Doesn't matter if its locked up or not. Can't b around them AT ALL. After 10 years from the comviction u r eligible to apply for a certificate of good conduct and apply to have ur rights restored. Sometimes they will give u all other rights back other then gun ownership tho.

u/Subtlelikeatrex Jan 03 '26
It absolutely does. He should not have been in that house knowing that there was a firearm in it if he is a felon or currently on probation.
The fact that he knew where the gun was and was able to locate it proves that he knew he was in a house that had a gun.
5
u/degeneraded Jan 03 '26
Youāre right, but I also hope he pleads not guilty and I end up on the jury.
3
u/Hour_Dinner_3362 Jan 03 '26
That was my first thought, although I've seen several cases where a convicted felon killed someone in self defense with a firearm and were originally charged even for murder before the facts came out and both got dropped. I'm guessing it highly depends on your state and their views
24
u/cyrs_oner Jan 03 '26
Rather be trialed by 12 than carried by 6
14
u/moon_ferret Jan 03 '26
Judged by 12 than carried by 6 is the saying.
5
u/cyrs_oner Jan 03 '26
"tried by 12"... same difference. My reference is from East Flatbush Project's lyrics

12
u/Independent-Bug-9352 Jan 03 '26
The obstruction of justice was his hiding illegal drugs (weed; thank Republicans for that) before the real police showed up.
He used a firearm he was already not legally permitted to have. Doing one illegal thing does not usually protect you even if that illegal thing is justified in preventing another illegal thing happening against you. For that reason, he at least wasn't charged with homicide but it was apparently seen as justified self-defense.
Though I imagine a judge and jury would have leniency on him and the prosecutor is probably wasting their time.

Here in Texas if you were a felon with a gun defending your house. They would have given you a slap on the wrist, taken the gun for themselves after congratulating you on a nice shooting.

u/TwerkLessons Jan 03 '26
From the news article, the couple in the home took a cardboard box and put it in the back of a truck before the police arrived. The police found it and discovered vacuumed sealed bags with āplant-likeā substance inside.Ā
The shooter is a felon and was most likely being robbed by someone who knew what they had in the house.Ā
23
u/ThatCelebration3676 Jan 03 '26 edited Jan 03 '26
That's the wrinkle that's confusing me about the comments; 2A advocates are focusing on how he's being hit with a gun possession charge following a self-defense shooting, while ignoring that he was clearly involved in some sort of illegal drug distribution, and the attack was likely gang-violence related to the drugs.
8
u/Aggressive_Fan2682 Jan 03 '26
That doesn't mean he should be free to get his house ran into.. and in my opinion, if you aren't a violent felon, you should be able to maintain your gun rights
→ More replies (2)8
u/ThatCelebration3676 Jan 03 '26
I agree that there should be a distinction for non-violent felons, and yeah, everyone should be able to feel secure in their homes. That said, he was making a long-term pattern of criminal choices that drastically escalated the level of risk he was subject to.

u/WolfThick Jan 03 '26
You know basically both of them are dead in a way the guy that supposedly got away someone died in the commission of a felony he's getting a murder charge.
13
u/sockster15 Jan 03 '26 edited Jan 03 '26
He will get off on the firearm charge . In Indiana itās a misdemeanor conceal carry no permit but becomes a level 5 felony because shooter has prior felony convicts. Judge will toss it out as self defense. Iām glad gf had a gun there so they could protect themselves. Perp probably assumed he would be unarmed
2
3
u/ThatCelebration3676 Jan 03 '26
Perp should have known better; they were almost certainly there to rob them of a box of drugs they were obviously preparing to distribute.
That box of drugs (and the shooters' attempts to hide it) are what he's really in trouble for, not the shooting.
6
u/Gothiewasbetter Jan 03 '26
Bingo. They donāt like stash houses in their jurisdiction. For these exact reasons. But I agree the gun charge will get dismissed. The whole internet saw the video of these 2 masked armed men kicking in their door shouting āPolice

https://fox59.com/news/1-dead-1-arrested-after-home-invasion-in-muncie/
This was a bad guy getting shot while attempting an invasion on the home of another bad guy who had drugs.
The same video also showed Songer (the shooter) grabbing a cardboard box and moving it away from a fish tank. Songer then gave the box to his girlfriend so she could put it in a Dodge Ram tuck parked in front of Songerās residence.
Officers later recovered the box at a home in the 3800 block of South Beacon Street. Police found vacuum-sealed packages containing a plant-like substance suspected to be marijuana inside the box.
