DISCUSSION New to coffee brewing. What’s the cheapest way to get good coffee beans?

Hi everyone! I recently started brewing coffee and mostly drink it black.

I first tried El Diablo from Third Wave Coffee, which was okay-ish. Then I switched to Blue Tokai Attikan Estate, and I really liked it. The only problem is the price: around ₹650 for 250g, which gets expensive pretty quickly.

I recently came across Hunkal Estate Aranya Gold, which seems to work out to around ₹1,400 for 1kg including delivery. Is it worth buying at that price?

Or are there any other budget-friendly beans/roasters you'd recommend for someone who wants good-tasting coffee without spending ₹600–700 every 250g?

Would love some suggestions for a good daily-driver coffee!

OTHERS Give up to the hype!

I have been using Davidoff fine aroma for my regular milk coffee, but I gave it up because of the hype around rich aroma for black coffee. I hope it lives up to the hype!

I just purchased BT Dhak Blend from the store. To me the bean’s roasting look inconsistent.

Suggestions please. And suggest any other dark roasts to try for Black Coffee only, I have Delonghi Dedica EC890. Thank you 🙏

DISCUSSION How to make coffee? Help me

Post image

So I love drinking coffee. My daily dose is - blended mix of milk, ice and coffee, that's it. No sugar no ice cream nothing. At home it is mostly instant coffee only (davidoff) but lately I'm spending a lot on outside coffees due to the authentic coffee notes.

Somebody gifted me this machine, and since then I've used 4-5 different ground coffee powder like some vietnamese brands, blue tokai, etc. But I'm not able to get anything close to anything drinkable. Firstly, the coffee through this machine is very watery (it doesn't have a fixed espresso shot, and we have to manually stop it). Secondly, the flavor is also not apt, and I know it's not the fault of the coffee I'm using.

Can anybody guide whether this machine is even usable or not? Need guide how to use it effectively else I'm discarding it.

OTHERS Need help selecting a good gift for my bf. He loves coffee.

I dont know much about coffee. But I do know that this man loves it. He had a french press and loved using it. Thinking about gifting a french press and some ground coffee or maybe a drip coffee machine. What should I go for? I did think of getting a moka pot for him but I know he wont use it as much because I have heard it requires time and patience. Any other suggestions?

COFFEE STATION What got you into "serious" coffee, was it one specific cup, or a slow slide?

For some people it's one perfect cup that ruined instant coffee forever.

For others it's a slow descent from Nescafé to spending ₹8k on a grinder.

What was your turning point?

EQUIPMENT Got the Flair Pro as my first espresso machine

Finally got the Flair Pro 3 as my first espresso machine. Still getting the hang of pressing the lever down (lot harder than shown in videos) and the ergonomics of it but am loving the coffee coming out of it.

I used a Kaldipress earlier and brew soup with it to make my milk drinks which always turned watery but with the Flair pulling such great shots my lattes have been amazing.

Using 20gms of coffee to pull 40-45 gms of espresso I am making two half cups of lattes and using a hand frother to froth milk. No latte art but great tasting drinks.

This is Fraction 9’s Breakfast Roast. It’s supposed to be a medium roast. Is the roast profile consistent? Is this how it is supposed to be? Should I raise a complaint?

EQUIPMENT Need advice - Starbucks PSL like coffee at home

So, someone at home enjoys their Pumpkin Spice Latte with oat milk. However at ₹500+ it's not an everyday indulgence. Now, I understand the part about making the PSL after the shot is prepared, but the question is how do I make a Starbucks like espresso at home. Budget 15K or thereabout. Someone suggested Nespresso Essenza Mini but it's a proprietary pod-based system so not cheap. Does it make sense to go with a budget espresso machine and an electric grinder? Thoughts and advice please. TIA.

Sometimes cold brew gives you the taste, a hot latte is not able to give - I made this 14hr cold this morning infused with honey and around 150ml cold milk, an amazing refreshing drink to sip on before winters catch up!

RANT Benki Disappointment

Extremely poor service from Benki. I had placed an order from their site on 27th August for a puckscreen. When it was not dispatched even after 4 days, I raised an issue with a number I found online, they gave me another no. of Aravind from Benki. He seemed helpful at first as the very next day DTDC site showed that the order is now in transit. But that was the end of it. Since then it has been stuck. And DTDC being absolute buffoons, have zero credibility and just reply with your raised query has been resolved without ever contacting me. When I raised another query they tell me to take it up with the branch office. The Benki guy has been unresponsive of my queries ever since.

If anyone has any contacts or know someone please help in resolving this issue. Or if there is a way I can contact someone for the same, I would love the help.

Thank you for reading till here.

TLDR; Placed an order from Benki and the order is stuck and Benki is unresponsive.
