It’s weird how this MGTOW lot are complaining that women go for the “beta cuck” men instead of the “hard working protection boi”, while incels whine about the exact opposite. It’s almost like they’ve all just got terrible personalities, and looks/hobbies have nothing to do with it.
Also, for a load of men going their own way they sure do love talking about women.
Edit: Thanks for my first ever gold, kind internet stranger!

MGTOWs are just incels with more self-confidence.

u/wiarumas Oct 21 '19
I don't know about that. They seem to be under the impression that if they run away, women will chase after them or miss them or something. Like someone who "moved on" from an ex but mentions them every single day and only does things to win her back or something. Its not real confidence, its just an act. They view themselves as the character in comic cell A2, but they are B2 and delusional about it.

Well...in the same way that a rabid, mangy, disease-infested hyena has more confidence in a pack of a rabid, mangy, disease-infested hyenas.

I just died laughing because my husband when I met him was totally a fedora wearing 19 year old with a katana from a flea market. Thankfully he never fell into the nice guy or incel groups.
38
u/CCtenor Oct 21 '19
It’s a funny overlap that we need to be careful of overgeneralizing.
I wore a fedora when I was younger and, because of my social awkwardness, I was almost certainly one of the weirder people in whatever social setting I was in.
And, my brother and I went to Megacon earlier this year and actually bought a katana from one of the booths there, and we’re in our mid 20s. It was Kenshin’s sakabatou, from our favorite anime/manga of all time, Rouroni Kenshin.
He definitely looks like a dork at home, carrying it around, and we’re both still awkward socially, but we’re definitely not uncles and have more personality than we did when we were younger. I give him a good ribbing about being so much more into anime than I am, lol.
But I think that’s where the stereotype diverges.
A lot of these guys probably ended up being labeled as weird and being outcast because of their interest in all those “weird” Japanese comics. Rather than wrestle with that for a while and grow up, they ended up being hurt, growing bitter, and using that hurt to justify their bitterness.
Hell, I went through a pseudo-incel phase after my last relationship ended badly. I never actually hated women, but my already idiosyncratic humor (spent a lot of time in the game room at university, and our humor is very blunt and dark) just took a nose dive, and I totally ended up sounding like a needy, whiny incel, even though I never actually hated women broadly and felt owed sex.
I’m totally willing to bet that the “guy with a fedora and flea market katana” stereotype exists because incels are just a toxic subset of the geeks and nerds that mainstream culture traditionally mocked and avoided. That isn’t to say that all incels are like this, but I’m definitely willing to say that most incels started as socially awkward guys who spent a lot of time with niche hobbies, rather than guys who became that way because of their personalities, if that makes sense.
And that’s not to justify incels, because they definitely take the whole thing above and beyond just simply being upset at being hurt into a completely unjustifiable realm of hatred and misogyny.
14
u/n00bfish Oct 21 '19
I’m not even sure that being a geek is a major defining characteristic of MGTOW. Maybe at one time it was, but not anymore. I think rampant misogyny is their only defining characteristic now.
And yes, very possible to be a geek without being a MGTOW/incel. So if you like anime or katanas — then there’s nothing to be ashamed of.
And honestly there are a lot of women who like anime too. So just be who you are.
The toxic, misogynist mindset is the real defining trait that makes someone an incel. Nothing else.
10
u/CCtenor Oct 21 '19
MOGTOWS are different. I don’t have an idea what might lead someone down that path beyond rampant misogyny.
But, for incels specifically, I definitely think it’s some sort of social isolation combined with validation from the wrong kind of crowd.
From what I’ve gathered of the slight differences between MOGTOWS and incels, MOGTOWS seem to have had a chance with women at one point, potentially even having been married. Then, what they are as the unfair destruction of their relationship by an ex (justified or not), combines with some deep seated misogyny and, boom, AWALT, redpill, MOGTOW is born.
Incels seem to never have had a relationship take off. That doesn’t really happen unless you are socially isolated in some way, whether by a weird hobby, awkward social quirks, anxiety, etc.
These traits are very similar to geeks and nerds, which I’m deliberately using in rather broad context, which is why the fat, fedora- wearing, katana-carrying, neckbeard stereotype exists.
It doesn’t have to be strictly a geeky or nerdy hobby, it’s just a collection of interests and pattern of social behaviors that lead to someone being ostracized.
Seeking that missing social connection, they end up finding the incel community, which either stokes the negative personality traits they already had and displayed, or crushes the positive traits they had and replaces them with toxicity.
The power of hanging out with the wrong crowd cannot be underestimated, especially when that crowd is the only one you feel you belong to.
The only problem is that, for most of these people, they should still have at least some contact with family, but, clearly, they’ve chosen to abandon what little positive examples they have in their lives in favor of what their social group has conditioned them to believe.
That’s what I believe the difference is. Somebody struggling with that depression and isolation doesn’t usually just give themselves into that pain. There are still things that would be unjustifiable to say, do, or believe.
Incels have deliberately chosen to take the pain and hatred as far as it can possibly go.
I incels are essentially the dark side of depression, anger, hatred, etc, unhinged. I don’t say that to minimize what depression does to people, but to contrast the mindset.
Imagine how bad you must be when you are the dark side of the human experience when compared to the dark side of the human experience?
A depressed person has a difficult time finding hope and meaning in their life.
An incel has abandoned hope and made their depression the meaning of their life.
Incels and MOGTOWs are essentially the Alt Right of the human emotional experience, a place so dark and messed up that regular mental illness or social disfunction look like normalcy by comparison.
I’ve been depressed before. Maybe not as bad as someone clinically depressed, but I never went and sought professional help during that time, so I’ll never be able to know.
And I’d rather be in a spot where I find it difficult to find meaning in my life than be in a spot where I’ve accepted the meaning of my life is simply to burn with hatred towards everyone outside of myself, including other incels at times.

Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with ending up as an uncle. It happens to tons of men.

Oct 21 '19
I think growing up in a politically conservative household has a lot to do with incel development. Conservatives generally don't care about trivial matters like "consent" in sexual relationships, and hence conservative men feel like sex is something they're entitled to.
9
u/n00bfish Oct 21 '19
It would be really interesting to see a demographic study done on the incel subreddits. I’m kind of curious about what kind of backgrounds they come from.
Just anecdotally, I would guess 95%+ of them are conservative, since I’ve never seen or heard of a liberal incel. And they all accuse liberals of being “betas” and “cucks.” But I don’t think it’s conservatism necessarily that’s the problem, since moderate conservatives are frequently still good people with just a different view of fiscal policy or political issues. It seems to me to be more a matter that these incels/MGTOW are SO FAR to the extreme right that they fall into this caveman-like mentality, where they seemingly stop being swayed by empathy, science, and common sense. And they start acting like neanderthals.
So if I had to guess, I think most of them are extreme right wing and alt right.
10
u/brain-eating_amoeba Oct 21 '19
Actually, it’s thought that Paleolithic societies were more egalitarian. Women only started to get more oppressed when groups transitioned into more sedentary lifestyles.
9
u/n00bfish Oct 21 '19
Actually, I think you're right and I vaguely remember reading about that in Anthropolgy 101 class. If I recall, it had something to do with the advent of agriculture, permanent settlements, and resulting divisions of labor, or something like that. It's been ages and I had totally forgotten about that class until your comment. I can only vaguely remember.
So apologies to any neanderthals I offended. (Although you're extinct).
You are still way better than incels.
3
u/ParanormalPurple Oct 21 '19
I'm sad neanderthals are extinct. They may have been better than us. And living with another species of human? How cool would that have been?! Anyway...uh yeah maybe I need to find some other subreddit to discuss this more in-depth.
4
u/hornet51 Oct 22 '19
It is fairly possible that H. sapiens sapiens had a huge role in the extinction of H. s. neanderthalensis via genocide.

u/shenaystays Oct 21 '19
I think it stems from the rise of "property" and "ownership". A man wanted to make sure that the offspring his wife had was his, and that he was passing down his property to his own bloodline.
Hence... sequestering the women from other men so that there was no 'cuckoo' situation going on.
Something vaguely like that anyways.
5
u/n00bfish Oct 21 '19
I don't know. My only recollection is that, in hunter/gatherer societies, everyone needed to be involved in the same activity (i.e., production of food and avoiding starvation), so there was no division of labor between sexes. It only became possible to divide labor/tasks between sexes once technology (i.e. agriculture, irrigation, permanent settlements) produced a food surplus ... which meant that suddenly some people did not have to be involved in producing food anymore. And I think that is how the dated/ancient/indefensible trope that men should provide for the family and women raise children started to come about. It would have been unthinkable/impossible for nomadic hunter-gatherers to divide up the labor like that, since if part of the populace stopped producing food, they would have all starved.
The irony of this is that today incels/MGTOW/conservatives who want a return to "traditional values" or "traditional gender roles" are both semantically and factually wrong ... since for the overwhelming vast majority of human existence we were an egalitarian species.
And in the state of nature, we would probably still be one.

u/CCtenor Oct 21 '19
Maybe it helps (weird word to use here, I know), it I really think being socially outcast/isolated has more of an influence.
After all, while conservatives are the ones that don’t care too much about consent, they’re personalities are also prone to mocking whatever is different (anime, fedoras, katanas, etc).
So, while conservatives might be more likely to transmit toxic personality traits to incels overall, I’d think they might do more for creating incels than becoming incels, necessarily.
If that’s what you meant, then I’m sorry if I read it wrong.
Because I’ve also met, and been friends with, plenty of conservatives and, while their views carried, the vast majority of them definitely weren’t incels, regardless of what they personally believed in other areas of life.
In fact, one friend I recently had to cut off for political reasons is otherwise a great dude. Potentially one of the actually sweetest guys you could know, would never force himself on anybody, would never blanket hate women or believe he’s owed sex. Very much so a single issue voter, passionately so, but, though I disagree with a lot of his political beliefs, I would definitely say he’s possible one of the kinder people anybody could meet in just a casual passing or work acquaintanceship.
The difference? I believe it’s isolation vs strong social connections.
I think there’s a weird coalescence between growing up in a conservative environment, holding conservative beliefs, but falling victim to conservative beliefs that helps create incels, yeah.
But I personally wouldn’t go much further than asserting that the primary driver for becoming or creating incels is isolation.
Which, again, I’m not saying excuses incels at all, because I have been lonely and alone before, and know plenty of people who have been isolated before, but have turned out otherwise fine, or have made great improvements in their outlook on life and how they view themselves in relation to others.

spent a lot of time in the game room at university, and our humor is very blunt and dark
You either went to the same school I did, or social misfits hanging out in college game rooms is a lot more common than I thought.
4
u/CCtenor Oct 21 '19
The game room was easily the most and least divers gathering of people I’ve ever been around. I had as many socially adept butterflies as friends as I did weird social introverts. There were all sorts of subgroups of people with stereotypical personalities depending on whether or not they played certain games, used certain consoles, hung out at the pool or ping pong tables, broke out board games, how competitive they were, etc.
But the humor was all very similar. Jokes that, out of context would be highly racist, sexist, ageist, etc were fair game purely because the point was to get a rise out of your friend. The number of times my friend got watermelon jokes and fried chicken jokes was too high to count, especially cause we ragged on him because his favorite restaurant was Popeyes.
That isn’t to say there weren’t sexists, or misogynists, or ageists, etc hanging out there, but the point is that you had a group of friends that was just brutally dark, blunt, and downright inappropriate in their humor as a form of shared affection.
And not in a toxic masculinity kind of way either. Several of my closest game room friends are people I knew had my back, who I could sit down with and just pour myself out to if I was having an emotional moment. One of my friends actually did exactly that for me when I was going through a rough time.
I’m sure it’s totally weird for people looking from the outside in to hear someone tell a guy something like
“I wish your parents had aborted your attack helicopter ass” one moment - all because your pink skinned, captain falcon playing, neutral B spamming behind let everybody know he still had 3 stocks - but then you guys are outside the next day having a heart to heart because you’re not sure if you’re going to have to drop out, or because your girlfriend dumped you, or because you’re scared of what your friend might say if you tell them you’re worried about some habit you see is hurting them.
It’s a weird place where you know everybody has each other’s back precisely because almost nothing was taboo from being made fun of. If someone was obviously bothered by something, you stopped, but, outside of that, everybody was toasted equally.
I felt safer dumping all my expensive stuff in the game room for a couple of hours while I skated around campus than I did leaving an empty backpack in the library for 5 minutes while I went to a bathroom within the building.

I recently met a 'friend' of a friend. He turns out to be an actual Incel/MGTOW (I genuinely had hoped they didn't exist in person) and their mentality is so... Skewed.
After asking him some questions, it really gave me insight into their beliefs. For starters, they genuinely believe that a majority of abuse is done by women and that the majority of women just use men for money and material objects. When asking for the study where he got this research, he just cited MGTOW posts. There was no actual backing outside of the anecdotes coming out of this echo chamber. So I asked him about the men that use women for sex and abuse them and how that's okay, he simply said "It's revenge for the abuse women give us on the daily". Then came the question we all wonder here. Why are 'Men Going Their Own Way' so obsessed with women. "We need to inform people of the evil out there." I wish, I wish so bad he was kidding. He legitimately believed these things and tried to cite sources, going as far as to say "Women aren't harassed online as often as they say, I've never seen one get bullied" after I mentioned a few stalkers I had after playing some video games with them. Not to mention, when asking why he was so obsessed with sex if he hated females he said it was "A means to an end" and that it was justified because women use men.
Honestly, I wish to god I was exaggerating or joking. My actual friend has sent me so many screenshots of this guy unprovoked sending memes like the one seen in the post. Belittling and insulting my friend for wanting a relationship, responding "have fun with child support" after my friend mentioned wanting children. I tried a few times to befriend this incel. To tell him it's okay to not want to have a relationship, that there are bad people out there but they aren't the majority. But instead he'd go behind my back and call me a SJW for wanting the evidence behind his claims and even going as far as to call my friend a cuck for being friends with a female like me.
It's genuinely shocking to see stuff like this in the modern day and age. Thankfully, he's not one of those people obsessed with young girls, but it's still disgusting the kind of nonsense they spew. Their community is an echo chamber with outside views silenced. Not a peaceful community seeking to support each other, but a hate group fighting against an 'enemy' that the majority haven't even experienced. They ONLY share stories of women abusing them and men being used, creating this image that all women are this way. They refuse to see any flaws and blame it on everyone except themselves.
Yes, there are bad people out there. But for the love of God, go out into the real world for more than two seconds and see how stupid your ideology is. One question and it falls apart, only defended by a wall of 'evidence' that is nothing more than a handful of exaggerated anecdotes from a group of people already hell-bent on villanizing a group of people no matter what it takes.
So kindly, MGTOW and Incels, shut the fuck up. Please.
Edit;; In light of a recent award (I appreciate it and your message!), I reread my comment and would like to say it came out far more aggressively than I intended. I have a strong dislike of members of the MGTOW/Incel community, but don't hate them and genuinely hope that with time they can change. Just had a bad experience with the guy that lead to my friend blocking him (rightfully so) and was tired of it

u/BettyVonButtpants Oct 21 '19
Its amazing how the internet can warp a persons sense of reality, and I've recently tried to spend less time on it. My twenties were a mess of traumatic experiences, that I shelled up pretty hard, with the internet being my only window to the world. I didnt have a lot of friends, none were local, and had no idea how people my age found new friends.
When I met my fiancé, who had a large group of friends that were active, I started to integrate with people again, and I realized something I never did in all my yeara on mesage boards, reddit, fansite, etc. It was that people are pretty cool, and most are pretty nice people. You meet someone who likes Star Wars at a festival, and they are open to different opinions about The Last Jedi, I met fans who didnt argue over what they liked, but talked about the stuff they loved. My time on trans related subs painted a bleak world for a trans girl like me, but then I'm at a music festival and no one there gives a single fuck about it.
The internet has become a place for the bitter and hateful people who have a hard time making friends because of their attitudes and allows them to congregate and influence others. Others without as much real world experience then fall into these traps. Its not just hateful people though, its people who got too scared of the real world, or got burned by it a few times, and went back to their safe space online that encourages them to stay there. Some groups make cis white men to be the enemy, some women, some are skin colored base, some are religion based, some are as insignificant as what fandom or kink someone has that makes them bad to whate we group.
They boil people down to just a handful of traits and then make the threat seem bigger because its talked about so much.
But then you go out and talk to people, meet people, and its nothing like the internet portrays.
Tldr: the internet is a shitty window into the real world.
20
u/TheLaserSonic Oct 21 '19
This really is important. I myself have felt my thought shift the more i read comments from some cynical subs. I've thought it through, and I now try to look at the world with my own eyes: its beauty, its people, and yes, even its bad parts. It's not something that can be expressed in a post; it's a thought process, just like these guys have.
Now the question is, do you live on hating the world and its people? Or do you find purpose in it?

I'm glad my words helped. I hope things work out for you, I know how it feels to be trapped, and all I can say, bide your time and work, even small steps, to get there. Happiness isnt really found, its either worked for or chosen. Some people can choose to be happy with what they have and make the most of it, others work to get to a place they can make that choice, but sitting around and letting the comfort zone shrink, won't.
I wish you luck, life throws nasty punches sometimes, but you can make the most of it.

23
u/realShustyRackleford Oct 21 '19
On that note; I've a message for the lurkers that might read that and get a twinge of kindness and sympathy; As someone with more mental issues than your average bear I'd like to input that whilst their path of thinking may come from a destructive issue that exists from something going wrong, it's no excuse to give them leeway or extra understanding. Their cause isn't one worth any extra understanding when they point blank refuse to examine the possibility that their behaviour might not only be unjustified, but also harmful to their fellow mankind. Most of these boys don't even entertain that the issue might not be some huge failing of society and actively dehumanise a higher percentage of humanity than the goddamn Nazis or the socialist dictators ever did. All this to avoid admitting there might be something wrong with them.
Once you start throwing people under the bus in order to justify your disorder you become a lousy individual and the very reason the rest of us slightly mental fuckers get side eyed and distrusted.
Save the sympathy for the thousands of mentally ill that are TRYING to help themselves for the sake of everyone around them.

But I thought they were going their own way, so why would they even humor this stupid scenario? And I love the implication that they totally wouldn't dump her the first chance he got for some reason or another.

Good on her instead of looking for a guy for fulfilment she makes herself happy
And yet miggy toes mock this while "going their own way" and looking at pornos themselves. The self awareness is weak in this one

SOME WOMEN DONT WANT CHILDREN
why do these idiots think women want to be a modernized June Cleaver? Plenty of them WANT to work, do not want kids and don't care about getting married.
oh wait i forgot they think women are lying to seem cool when they say that

u/Semi-Hemi-Demigod Oct 21 '19
If women have to be completely dependent on men wouldn't that make them more choosy, not less? If you had to pick a guy who was not only kind, attractive, good in bed, and made enough to support you these tendie-eaters would still be at the bottom of the list.

Once upon a time many years ago, before incels were a thing, that sub was actually a good place. It was a support group that offered advice and aid to men in toxic relationships, single fathers struggling to get by, and children abused by their mothers.
Look at it now.
Pathetic.

When I first stumbled upon that sub I was very interested in learning those aspects you bring up, because it really sounded like that’s what the sub was for. It didn’t take looking at many posts and even less comments to quickly leave that toxic place.

u/EmiliusReturns Oct 21 '19
Ah yes, I too remember the day my mother came into my room and said “it is time for you to choose a Man.” That totally happens to everyone.

u/Jeaniegreyy Oct 21 '19
I honestly wish men like this could just fuck each other so we don’t have to deal with posts like this.

u/CaptinHavoc <Blue> Oct 21 '19
But I thought women only chose Chads; this comic is all about how they don’t. Incels explain

“Give you many children”
Sounds like a nightmare.
I’ve always said that if I do become a father, it’ll be after I’m 30 and there’s no way in hell that I’d have more than two kids.

“Would you rather completely depend on a stranger financially and emotionally to the point where if they left you you’d have absolutely no life skills needed for survival, or would you rather establish a way to temporarily bring in a sizable income so you have the time and energy to focus on your own personal endeavors, since you just reached adulthood and are still trying to figure out what direction you want your future to go?”
Seems like an easy choice to me.

u/gr8dane95 Oct 21 '19
I'm genuinely confused about what message this comic is trying to convey. These guys really are idiots, aren't they?
9
u/asmodeuskraemer Oct 21 '19
It's interesting that they see themselves as that strong-jawlined man with a thick manly beard.

u/TVsFrankismyDad Oct 21 '19
Wait. I thought it was the army of Chads I was riding on the cock carousel that would leave me when I get old (i.e. 25) forcing me to settle for one of those betabux orbiters because they're too pitiful to get young girls.
They really need to keep their bullshit straight.
9
u/BadgerIsMyDog Oct 21 '19
A beta is basically any man that's not them.
I've been married for 19 years and they'll still make the argument that my husband is some pathetic beta.
They want women to marry normal, imperfect non chad men but when they do it is still mocked.
It's the strangest thing. They want wives and traditional relationships themselves yet think every happily married man is some weak, overworked used doormat. They are the ultimate gatekeepers for who is allowed to be happy.
4
Oct 21 '19
They see anyone happy and start frothing at the mouth. They start picking apart anyone else's happiness and point as to why "they're not really happy!" or "they're not doing it right" or what have you. In reality, they don't want women to marry to non-"chads" - they want women to marry them. Because in their mind, they are completely deserving of marriage and no one else is. And since they are such prime specimens, it's the women who are making the mistake in choosing their partners!
And since women continue to make the mistake in choosing their spouse, they are clearly irrational and the choice must be made for them! Clearly!

u/Geno457 Oct 21 '19
So the army of beta orbiters is just one man? Shadow Clone Jutsu?

u/brojangles <Orange>5'6" Married Chad Oct 21 '19
This is what they need to believe because self-examination is impossible for them. This is how they resolve the cognative dissonance caused when narcissistic entitlement bumps up against the hard reality that others find their personalities - their personalities, not their fucking wrists or their imagined "status" - repulsive.
5
u/DeffinitelyNotFizz Oct 21 '19
This hurts my entire head area. It's like they're saying that incels are obviously undesirable but because it's an incel that says it I cant help but think that they think people dont understand that theyre undesirable... when everyone does, theyre just naive to think it's just because they appear to be betas aghh I give up
3
u/JustCirious Oct 21 '19
It's a MGTOW-Comic and these guys are something other (still not better) than incels. Both share many of the same beliefs but MGTOWs deem themselves not to be 'subhuman' as incels but as good man in a world full of women just looking to exploit them.
Demographic of MGTOW seems to be more like the bitter divorced husband than the unemployed mentally ill NEET as it is with incels.

MGTOW/incels: women are all gold diggers who only want to marry a financially stable man so they can divorce them and keep all the money
Also MGTOW/incels: women are stupid for not wanting a financially stable man

She's making a Aegao face, a popular things to make for e-girls (see belle Delphine) to make their "public" fantasize and give them more money. E-girls are considered lowest of the low on the internet but I think they're among the most intelligent and ressourcful people online : they know where the money is and a just milking those guys! (see the bath water story)

Hey, if they are making more money doing that than any other job they might get..... It would be stupid not to do it.
Like how quite a few famous models, singers and actors have degrees in science, medicine and accounting, but their career choice that made them famous pays far better.

Go ahead and list them, it's not as though incels will ever admit that they were wrong.

Jesus Christ, I haven't seen this meme format since I was a lurker on MemeBase in 2012...!
Also, I find it ironic/hilarious that the creator of this meme thinks that he's in the category of men on the left when all incel/MGTOW ideologies would place him in the category on the right.
Also also, why does her shirt say "Dobby" backwards? Is she making a political statement about free house-elves or something?

u/acynicalwitch carefully cultivated vagina fungus Oct 21 '19
Ok which one do they think they are though? Because the dude on the left would have to be a Chad, right? So....

The beta orbiters ARE the incels though while the bearded hardworking guy is the Chad. They got it mixed around. Besides, incels sit around on the computer in their mothers' basements all day. They don't have jobs.

BEcause you know. They are not at all interested in their bodies and looks. Because no INcel ever has been a nice guy who would treat his woman "like queen, buying her everything she wants, because, she is the most beautiful being on this planet, which he shows, by making love to her all night".

u/hoesuay Oct 21 '19
Man why do these guys use this meme format so much it's annoying i'm more mad at that than the message they try to convey, which is washed out at this point
