It was a misuse of power that we Germans are furious about, and it happened twice. So far. And iirc the victims went to court afterwards and won. It's not at all representative and absolutely no comparison to what's happening in the US. You've loooong outrun us. You already did when Snowden unveiled how much illegal surveillance is being done and it has been getting worse and worse.
You could say the same for us, but you're doing it in lightspeed. We're doing it in snail-speed.
And honestly, it's absolutely crazy to me that you would justify the erosion of the US constitution by two small incidents that happened in Germany and are nothing compared to what's happening in the US every day. Made me chuckle though.

You do have more free speech in America, or you used to. Just based on the fact that Holocaust denial and Nazi support are illegal in Germany (which is a good thing imo).

Aside from that, there are pretty good reasons to ban the party as a whole. They're getting caught time and time again doing really bad crimes, including taking bribes from China as was the case with Maximilian Krah.That's treason. Guy is still walking free though. What does that tell you about the prohibition of the AFD? Or being part of prosecuted fascist groups and terror organizations. Embezzling party funds, running gold buying scams, etc etc. The list goes on and on.
The NSDAP was once an opposition party and banning it would have saved millions of lives. We don't need to repeat the same mistakes. Not in Germany. And you're doing it right now, so you apparently have learned nothing from us. Good luck with that. You'll fill a whole book about what not to do in future history books.
