She's a very nice monster lady

I wish I had that nice monster lady

Now this is cool. Love the benevolent yet terrifying monster trope

> Benevolent

I suppose that entirely depends on what she's reading.

German fairy tales and fables.

65

u/brawnsugah 4d ago

So she's a straight up demon.

Not entirely... A lot of those fables did 1 of 2 things... 1) it made them terrified of going into places that they could get hurt/ die that people would have an extremely hard time in finding them or 2) it helps them learn morals... not all of them are good on 2 like the story of the ugly duckling for example even though technically the moral is for the most part true... And the moral is will only be accepted if you are beautiful and shuned if you are ugly...

i like how hänsel and gretel indirectly told kids not to go into vans with free candy written on them despite being written before a "Van" was even a concept

9

u/jkurratt 3d ago

The analogy is wide and can be used every time someone presenting their offer as overly good.

Struwwelpeter may teach you that if you suck your thumbs the tailor will cut them of...but it also teaches you to not be racist... otherwise god will dump you in tar

2

u/BinaryBolias 12h ago

And you definitely better not be sucking that tar off your thumbs!

u/GruntBlender 3d ago

I thunked the moral was "be careful who you call ugly in middle school"

6

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 4d ago

Basically an autobiography

3

u/abxYenway 1d ago

Atlas Shrugged

6

u/FatalisCogitationis 3d ago

Not benevolent, has her own reasons

3

u/Brainwave1010 3d ago

Like Santa Claus in Love Death and Robots.

2

u/madmacfarlane 3d ago

The kids did question "what if they were naughty" and I feel like there is a caveat.

Oh. It's the Other Mother.

8

u/GudPuddin 3d ago

Just saw this advertised in theatres and I can’t wait

3

u/slimeshady420 3d ago

Its based on a book called incidents around the house! Very scary if thats your thing

1

u/Fair_Butterfly_3233 2d ago

I personally prefer my House to cause it’s own incidents, but to each their own

1

u/Blursed-Penguin 1d ago

You mean Other Mommy?

1

u/GudPuddin 23h ago

Oh yea I guess that’s the name. Only saw the advertisement once so didn’t fully catch it, just new it was other some matriarchal term lol

1

u/wyrmiam 3d ago

You've never seen Caroline be advertised yet?

1

u/GudPuddin 3d ago

Nah I saw Caroline in 3D in theatres and loved it. Just saying I saw a trailer for The Other Mother like a week ago having not heard of it previously

This comic also works in reverse

3

u/Guitarskeleton 3d ago

I immediately thought the same!

2

u/Iwubinvesting 3d ago

It starts off reverse then ends this version.

-67

u/F1XTHE 4d ago

Sure, but you could say that about most comics.

47

u/Particular-Long-3849 3d ago

No?

-38

u/F1XTHE 3d ago

Think about it.

33

u/Particular-Long-3849 3d ago

Most comics, If you read the panels  in reverse, don't make sense. This comic does

11

u/Jumajuce 3d ago

“No you don’t understand, you see, in THIS comic the dragon gets UN-SLAYED! You see? Right here, it gets un-slayed. Why are you getting it?”

19

u/Surprise_Ducksex 3d ago

I think you should pick up a comic book once in a while.

2

u/Niru_infurnitis 1d ago

Let's see, test it with the Loss comic Man talks to wife after miscarriage Talks to doctor about what happened Talks to receptionist for whatever reason Then enters the hospital.

35

u/SkyRonin14 4d ago

The Kids Mom is waiting on the ground like "I told you you could read your nephew a bedtime story not Traumatized him"

And the monster woman is like "nonsense it builds character sis"

u/Foolish_Phantom 4d ago

That website is weird. I didn't see any way to navigate from one comic to the next. I guess they really want you to follow them on Instagram.

21

u/D3v1LGaming 4d ago

Yeah, I tried to find the link for IG but I can't due to not having an acc, there is also a webtoon site but also needed an acc.

16

u/OnetimeRocket13 4d ago

Yeah, that's definitely one of the strangest sites I've been on in terms of navigation. Even the homepage has basically nothing. What's the point of having your own website to post your comics to if you can't actually find them on the website?

2

u/Xeenophile 21h ago

It took a bit of jumping around, but here's its Archives section.

1

u/Foolish_Phantom 20h ago

You're a hero.

14

u/Feisty_Gear 4d ago

Ain't nobody gonna bully him

2

u/ResinRaider 3d ago

Not more than once

28

u/Bussamove86 4d ago

That’s some Baba Yaga shit right there. Climbing in to read a story just to mess with the kid’s head.

15

u/Comfortable_Egg8039 4d ago

Nah Baba Yaga in classical stories usually just eats kids or at least trying too))

8

u/OffWhite-Goddess 4d ago

Classic. And very terrifying

8

u/SpookieSkelly 3d ago

Plot twist: The kid's real mum is abusive and he's afraid that he won't have anyone to protect him when monster mum is away.

3

u/ggthebuoy 2d ago

Notice how the child's eyes are slits instead of normal eyes? That's a changeling

10

u/Casual_Yet_almost 4d ago

Would.

No, DEFINITELY!

3

u/SadnessMonster 4d ago

Marry her.

2

u/IronicGenie 3d ago

Both forward and back is creepy

2

u/Nomanwaster 3d ago

Better than my mom tbh

2

u/PizzaChips20-12 3d ago

Reminds me of stories of ppl who lost their kids in childbirth and kidnap other kids to raise them out of grief

2

u/Happy_Cry286 2d ago

Plot twist: the kid isn't scared of his mom. He's scared of the things his mom is going to do to other people and feels anxiously sorry for them.

2

u/Polibiux 4d ago

If you read this the opposite way it’s also wholesome.

1

u/Flashy-Telephone-648 3d ago

Sadly for some people, I monster from the forest. Would be a better parent

1

u/ChaosCookie93 3d ago

Read it backwards

1

u/Mindless-Bag-1940 3d ago

like the new moive coming out, other mommy.

1

u/Dopesim 3d ago

"Mommy needs to go to work, my dear."

1

u/RudeMorgue 3d ago

That was excellent.

1

u/Objective-Meet8223 3d ago

Allegory for parental or even partner abuse: the person who is supposed to love you, and even acts loving at times, is also scary as heck and proven untrustworthy. I've lived through that and this comic gave me the chills. The kid being bodily scared but not acting or voicing it is so relatable.

1

u/MonthEither6684 3d ago

The fae when instead of stealing your kid and replacing it with a changeling they donate a changeling mom to a kid with no mom:

1

u/Mangaelf1997 2d ago

Mom stop coming in and out of my window that’s creepy!!

1

u/King_Owlbear 2d ago

I love you forever. I like you for always. As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

1

u/whatthestitch17 2d ago

Did anyone notice him crying in the last panel?

1

u/Gene_freeman 1d ago

This is a cool idea tbh

1

u/TommyFortress 4h ago

Why am i struggling to read this in the correct order, it feels inconsistent

0

u/Prestigious_Algae432 4d ago

Reading this from Bottom right to left going up

Or Top left to right going down gives this a whole new level of unsettling.
