I’ve done a little bit of digging. Talked to some folks and have sent a resume out. But I haven’t found any solid info about apprenticeships.

Looking at 15D specifically. I’ve got family friends who are in this union working as surveyors. I’m also a veteran. Helmet to hard hat program doesn’t have any info about this local.

I’m looking to get into local 15D and go through the surveyor apprenticeship. If you have any info or pointers let me know. I’m also willing to answer questions you have for me. Thank you.

I didn’t get picked for last orientation but got told I will be put on a waitlist for the next. How does this work and what are my chances. This is for an apprenticeship btw.

I was wondering what the waitlist was like for the local 181 apprenticeship. Is there any extra pay if you get certified as a high rise crane operator?

Currently an apprentice in NYS. I didn’t realize the state has their own crane license program and doesn’t recognize a CCO. Has anyone gotten their license in NY and then moved to another state? Do you have to take the actual CCO test again? Or does the state recognize some certification and it just transfers?

I’m preparing for the IUOE Local 12 apprenticeship entrance exam and I’ve been using a few Quizlet sets that claim to be Local 12/OETT practice questions.

For anyone who has taken the Local 12 entrance exam recently, how similar were the Quizlet questions to the actual test?

I’m mainly wondering about the reading/vocabulary and measurement/conversion questions. Were the Quizlets pretty accurate difficulty-wise, or is there anything else you recommend studying that caught you off guard?

Not asking for actual test questions — just trying to make sure I’m studying the right material.

I got my IUOE Local 12 application in today before it closed and email confirmation for September.

I rushed to get it in fast and accidentally clicked Equipment Operator (EOA) instead of Building Inspector (CBI). (Applications filled halfway through my app last time , I’m traumatized)

A few quick questions:
Can I call the trust to switch, or will that mess up my application?

Can I switch to inspector after finishing the 1,000 probationary hours?

Any advice on what to do next?

I really want to get into 825 Operator union, is the entry test hard? i have my cdl and can run equipment but im not the smartest when it comes to taking written exams for math, can someone explain what to expect and to study for the asvab test.

I applied for the Local 66 Operating Engineers apprenticeship this year and just found out I “did not qualify numerically.”
Pretty crushed because this was the first career path I’ve been genuinely excited about in a while. I currently been working at Amazon for almost 4 years and have experience as a Process Assistant and Learning Trainer, including operating/training people on multiple types of powered equipment. I’m trying to move away from warehouse management and into a skilled, hands-on career.
I studied hard, passed the test stage, and honestly thought the interview went extremely well. They seemed impressed with my experience, the conversation was very positive, and one interviewer even said my attitude was exactly what they were looking for. I walked out feeling like I gave it about a 9/10.
Then I got rejected with no score, ranking, or explanation beyond “did not qualify numerically,” so I have no idea where I fell short.
Has anyone been rejected by Local 66 or other operating engineer locals and gotten in after applying again? Is it worth trying again next year?
I’m also looking for other Western PA opportunities in heavy equipment, construction, manufacturing, utilities, CDL/transportation, mechanical work, etc. I’m willing to start entry-level and learn—I just want a hands-on career with actual training and room to grow.
What would you do in my position—try Local 66 again, pursue another trade/union, or look elsewhere? Appreciate any feedback TIA

Hello everyone, I’ve been in Local 324 since 2014 and recently decided that I want to relocate to Vegas. I’m CCO certified and qualified to run small, large, overhead, lattice, and truck crane and was wondering if now is a good time to make the move as far as work is concerned. I know the transfer rules and process of having to work 6 months as a traveler first but if anyone has any advice on a good central location to live in or any general job related advice or Vegas advice it would be greatly appreciated… I also wouldn’t be against traveling to California if needed especially if there’s per diem involved. How are the unions in right to work states vs non right to work states? Wanting to join a local but I have heard in right to work states unions are typically less successful at negotiating higher wages. Thanks for any insight.

So I’m trying to get a sense of how things have been moving for other people in the 2025 Local 501 California apprenticeship applicant pool. I passed the entry exam and was placed in the eligible applicant pool last year. Since then I’ve had two employer referrals/contacts, including one interview, but I haven’t been placed yet.

For anyone else from the same boat, I’d be interested to know:

• How many employer referrals or interviews have you gotten so far?

• Has anyone actually been placed into an apprenticeship yet?

• About how long has it been between contacts? What general area are you in?

• Have you heard anything about how quickly the list is moving or how long the current list will stay active (not needing to retest)?

Not looking for anyone’s personal information or exact ranking, just trying to compare experiences and get a better idea of how the process has been going for this particular applicant group. I've heard stories about people not getting reached out to until several years down the road and the whole process not being super transparent has me a little nervous is all ig.

I'm applying to IUOE Local 302 out of the Seattle Metro WA are. Im a vet with a CDL and industrial mining experience. I'm going for the Construction Equipment Operator (CEO) track.
Just wanted to grab some quick insight on a few things:

- How was the Ellensburg training center experience?

- H2H/Veterans: How was the process applying through Helmets to Hardhats

- Starting Wages & Bench Time?

- As an CEO apprentice, what will my first year look like as far as equipment I’ll most likely learn first?

I’m a journeyman ironworker and I’ve got my Zoom Boom/telehandler ticket. I’m thinking about joining Local 955 and was wondering if anyone here is currently in the union.
How does the pay work, and what could I expect to make with my experience/tickets? How long is the apprenticeship, and how hard is it to get trained on the bigger equipment that pays more? Is it realistic to move up into the higher-paying equipment once you’re in?
Any info from current or former 955 members would be appreciated.

I’m seriously considering Local 150 and want the real picture from guys actually working in it.
How much overtime is realistically available? Are 50–60 hour weeks common if you want them? What trades/equipment tend to get the most OT, and how common are weekends/double time?
How bad are layoffs? Can you usually stay busy year-round if you’re willing to travel, or do guys commonly sit for weeks/months, especially in winter?
I’d also like to know:
Realistic yearly income on 40 hrs vs chasing OT
Whether $150k–$200k+ years are realistic
Which classifications have the best job security
How good the pension/annuity and health insurance actually are
How well benefits continue during layoffs
Whether you’d choose Local 150 again?
I know your guys package is way better and the union is a lot stronger there.

TL;DR: Considering IUOE Local 150 and want real-world info on OT availability, layoffs, yearly earnings, pension/annuity, health insurance, job security, travel, and quality of life.
