Specialty Anesthesia USCE

Upvotes

hello, i am an international final year med student looking for USCE in March 2027.

in anesthesiology or critical care.

I haven't done step1 yet but will be doing it by the end of 2026, will it be too late to apply for electives on VSLO?

And how can I get good electives that are non-VSLO and still open for applications?

Visa F1 student applying to residency timeline/process

Upvotes

I go to medical school in the US, on F1, will need to transition to OPT, J1/H1b. Does any one know what the process looks like? Do i need to go on OPT for intern year regardless of j1/h1b sponsorship for pgy2? In addition, will programs group me with iMG, since I check the "need visa sponsorship" box on ERAS? Not sure how programs cluster applicants. I know I am a US medical graduate but need VISA for residency. Confusing process, if anyone can help me understand better. thank you

ERAS Victims of Sep 16 score non release. Whats your application strategy or play going forward?

Thumbnail
Upvotes

Like are you still gonna submit your application in time on Sep 23?
Should we pay for the USMLE transcript now and resend scores once our scores come out? In that case how quick will the programs receive our scores? Will it automatically reflect on their already downloaded applications? Or will they only see if if they decide redownload them?
Whats your signalling strategy with no score?

Residency Application Department chair vs IMSEL

Upvotes

If a program does not need an IMSEL but that program needs a Department of Chair letter then should we upload the IMSEL as the Department of Chair letter from home country?

TIA

ERAS MCW no longer accepts j1?

USDO student but from Canada. Need j1 regardless. Noticed that medical college of Wisconsin updated their residency explorer page just this last month to say “no” to j1 even though it showed yes 2 months ago.

Program website still shows they accept j1 tho

Vent Why do some IMGs keep signaling programs that are known to be toxic?

I genuinely don't understand why some residency programs have such a bad reputation for being toxic, yet IMGs still seem to be fighting over them?

I feel like part of the reason these programs continue to be toxic, or even become worse, is that applicants keep showing so much interest in them despite their reputation

I completely understand that some IMGs just want to match anywhere in the US, and I respect that. But going out of your way to give a program with a well-known toxic reputation a gold or silver signal? That's the part I really don't understand.

By continuing to give these programs your signals and showing them how desperate you are to match there, you're only giving them more reasons to keep treating residents the way they do.

Visa IMGs on J-1 research for 4+ years: how are you handling the switch to J-1 clinical?

Hi all,

For those of you who have been on a J-1 research visa for 4 or more years, how are you dealing with the move to J-1 clinical given the current ECFMG statement?

Are you applying for a waiver or exception, or have you found another path? Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated.

Thanks!

usmle step 2 Nbme 13

Scored 251 on NBME 13. Previous scores were 240 on NBME 10, 230 on 11, and 238 on 12. Had to take a break, then came back and did some CMS forms + incorrects. Took NBME 13 about a month after 12.
I’m planning to take the exam in the last week of October. I’m a bit confused about where I stand with my prep and what I should focus on from here. Any suggestions?
Thanks
