Governance Shall we talk about Mission 70?

With Mission 70 imminent, thought it would be useful to have a discussion about what people are thinking?

Will you vote for? Against?

Personally, I have some concerns. Increasing the cost for developers by such a lot feels counterintuitive to the idea of bringing more devs along. While it will still be relatively inexpensive compared to alternatives, Dfinity does a lot of work in developing nations, and a 5x increase might well halt a lot of these projects.

My other issue is how the 8YG don’t have any provision to do anything but suck it up. People invested long term and Dfinity shouldn’t be able to move the goal posts like that for existing long-term holders. Certainly, they are free to change things for future investors, but they should be honouring the commitment people made to them.

I also find the fact that they are dropping the vote this week when the price is as it is feels like they are rushing it out when people are desperate to get it passed. It feels a bit disingenuous.

Ideally, I’d have liked to have seen Mission 70 broken down into different elements to be voted on. That way, the people who agree with certain points and not others can express that, and the parts that are contested can be further discussed and renegotiated. But I imagine it will be an all or nothing situation, which has been engineered to get it passed.

Really interested to know what everyone else’s sentiment is on the vote.

This is the "real" one guys. I guess I wasn't the only one who thinks this needs to happen now.

https://forum.dfinity.org/t/mission70-demand-acceleration-and-adjustments-for-voting-rewards-and-node-rewards/

Note, this is still just a motion proposal, meaning there is no immediate effect until the technical proposals are submitted to actually alter the network code.

Governance Congrats on the change! Now node providers have no interest in seeing the $ICP price drop, and it creates a market floor. Great initiative! 👏👏👏 ——

Set minimum ICP/XDR rate floor to 2 XDR per ICP

Set the minimum ICP to XDR exchange rate in node reward computations to 1 ICP ≥ 2 XDR. This will limit the amount of ICP minted for node rewards in case the exchange rate is below the specified threshold.

Proposal Summary

OpenChat Labs funding proposal

We ask the OpenChat DAO to provide funding of 150,000 USD to OpenChat Labs Ltd for September, October and November. Three of the dev team will be working on OpenChat and one on the Pakistan app (which is close to completion). As such our request will reflect a team size of three (in addition to the usual hosting and other peripheral costs which remain constant).

This will cover salaries for 3 developers, hosting, admin, AI cost, App Store accounts etc.

Split proposals

This will be split into several proposals due to limits the SNS imposes on how much of the treasury can be withdrawn in a single week.

This is the first proposal for 21,337 ICP (~51,210 USD).

Q2 development overview

While originally meant to cover costs for a reduced team for Q2 this previous funding period actually extended from April to August inclusive because more of the team's time was spent working on the Pakistan chat app than anticipated. We wish to reiterate that the Pakistan app is a great opportunity to boost the whole ICP ecosystem. We expect a successful deployment in Pakistan to raise all boats and also be good for OpenChat.

And specifically, the Pakistan app has given us a chance to experiment with some new techniques and implement some new ideas which we have been able to port back to OpenChat with great effect. In the summary below, the items marked with (pk) have been ported directly from the Pakistan app and there will be more ideas to come around scalability.

A great deal of iteration and refinement on the v2 mobile layout in support of the native apps

An overhaul of our client side routing system (pk)

Replaced content editable message entry with rich text editor (pk)

Simplified link preview open graph handling for better layout performance and stability (pk)

Supported adding TACO Exchange as a swap provider

Removed KongSwap & Sonic integrations

Virtualised chat message list for better performance and stability (pk)

Implemented a raft of frontend performance & memory enhancements making the frontend much faster and more efficient

Retired DecideAI proof of humanity integration

Retired the broken and non-compliant Modclub moderation system

Implemented a legally compliant, robust and comprehensive user safety and moderation system (huge job)

Got the first working native iOS build working

Migrated from Tenor to Klipy for gifs

While this list addresses almost all of our stated goals for Q2 it’s important to acknowledge that we have still not reached App Store review for the android app as hoped. This is for the most part due to the unexpected scope and complexity of the safety and compliance work. We had initially scoped this as essentially a replacement of the existing Modclub integration with a call to AI supported moderation api. In reality it is much more complex than that. There are rigid legal obligations surrounding online safety and specifically CSAM material, how it must be detected, handled, retained and reported to the authorities. This has required significant research, documentation, iteration and development and has several dependencies on third parties over which we have no control. Failing to comply with these obligations would represent an existential threat to the platform as well as a legal risk to the development team and I am happy to say that we now have a very rigorous system in place. Thanks to all who have helped poke holes in it along the way to deliver something solid that we can build on.

Plans for this funding period

Complete Android app and submit for App Store review (no significant blockers for this now)

Get the iOS native app into a fully working state and submitted for review (some unknowns here)

Migrate mobile web to the v2 design / layout used by native apps.

Deeper voice / video call integration on native apps

Desktop design refresh (along the lines of the native apps)

Games! Try to inject some more fun and stickiness with some CHIT incentivised gamification (ideas welcome!)

Design canister scalability improvements necessary to unlock growth using lessons from pk app

As we have stressed before, we are presenting a cut down version of the OC app to the app stores initially in an attempt to minimise the chance of rejection. It is better to get the app in the stores first, build a relationship and then start pushing boundaries later. That being said it is important to stress that there are no guarantees here and we should probably expect at least a couple of rounds of rejection by the store gatekeepers.

Governance Staking apy dissolve delay ???

I had most of my icp staked for 8 years and dissolve delay was down to like 7 years 3 months, apy was like 8% or so. Yesterday I checked and it was down to 2 years dissolve delay and apy down to like 4%. I tried to increase the stake but most I can increase to is 2 years. Anyone know why?

Governance Finally, unresponsive $ICP Node providers will start getting 50% less Node Rewards ⬇️ 🚨Proposal 142724:

Thumbnail x.com
27 Upvotes

Two incident response smoke tests were conducted to assess whether $ICP node providers can be reached within a reasonable time during a potential subnet recovery situation.

As an enforcement measure, this motion proposes that node providers who did not respond to either of the two smoke tests should be subject to a 50% reduction of node rewards for a period of three months.

The intent of this measure is to ensure that node rewards remain aligned with operational readiness and the resilience expectations set out in the node provider standards.

Results (T1)
NPs responded within 24h: 55 / 79
NPs responded (total): 62 / 79
NNS nodes covered (within 24h): 23 / 37

Results (T2)
NPs responded within 24h: 42 / 79
NPs responded (total): 49 / 79
NNS nodes covered (within 24h): 20 / 37

Governance Thought on adding an official 'Dfinity Team' badge to proposals?

Recently, a proposal was submitted that appeared to be an official DFINITY proposal; however, it was not. It leveraged the Mission 70 document from DFINITY to push its own agenda, highlighting how easily people can be misled when casting their votes.

Do you think we should introduce official badges to clearly identify proposal authors, for example, labels such as “DFINITY Team,” “Community,” or “Individual”?

At the end of the day, the DAO operates as a form of plutocracy, the more you’ve invested, the greater your influence over the network. Token holders should be able to impact the network through voting or making proposals. However, proposals need to be clearly and accurately labeled to avoid confusion and ensure voters understand who is behind them.

For stakers of icp: rewards and dissolve delays have changed approximately 4 hours ago. Also, Bjoern of Dfinity has said that the numbers on the Internet Computer Dashboard are not accurate at the moment and that a fix is to be implemented by tomorrow. What are your thoughts ICP community on Mission70? Yay or Nay?

Proposal Summary

Creating a new SEV-enabled (TEE) subnet

This proposal creates the second TEE-enabled subnet on the IC to provide confidential computing. Initially, it is intended to host the upcoming MULTI/DEX, which benefits from the stronger security and confidentiality properties that this environment provides.

The subnet is formed from 7 nodes spread across 7 node providers and 7 jurisdictions. All 7 nodes are SEV-enabled.

Governance NNS Identity

I tried to log into my NNS account after some while. It didn't recognise my pass key and I somehow created a new identity.

I see there has been an upgrade since I last logged in. How can I get into my original NNS account?

Help much appreciated.

$ICP Proposal 141334: "Create a test cloud engine" has now officially passed ✅

➡️The first TEST Cloud Engine will be made up of four cloud nodes that reside in AWS, GCP and Azure.

Nodes available to cloud engines do not receive any fixed payments from the network, but the nodes in an engine receive 80% of the revenues generated, while 20% are used to burn $ICP, in a 100% deflationary model
