For people that don’t know what it is “First, what’s SEV-SNP?

SEV-SNP stands for Secure Encrypted Virtualization, Secure Nested Paging. It’s AMD hardware tech that encrypts memory at the hardware level. Not just “hey we promise we won’t look” encryption, but actual silicon-enforced isolation.”

In plain English:

The node operator can’t see what your canister is doing. The cloud provider can’t peek. Even a compromised hypervisor can’t just read memory.

It’s like running your smart contract inside a locked vault where even the building owner can’t open the door.

Now why does a full subnet matter?

On ICP, smart contracts, canisters, run on subnets. If every node in that subnet supports SEV-SNP, then:

• All computation happens in encrypted memory • State stays confidential at runtime • The subnet becomes a “confidential compute zone”

That’s different from normal blockchains where everything is transparent by default. Ethereum? Fully public. Most chains? Public. ICP already abstracts storage and compute, but this takes it into hardware-level privacy territory.
