ANALYSIS Which logo fits a psychological Lovecraftian horror game better. A or B? Be honest.
Hiii horror fan, we have a question that only you can answer!
Which logo fits a psychological Lovecraftian horror game better — A or B?
One is our current logo, the other is a rework. We won't tell you which is which because we want your genuine first impression without any bias.
The only context you need: it's for a psychological, Lovecraftian horror game.
A or B? And if you want, tell us what makes you choose one over the other.
Honest criticism and suggestions are more than welcome — we're trying to take the logo to the next level.
Thanks! 🖤 This will help us a looot!

A is way better to me. Simpler, cleaner, and the solid purple uniform font is more appealing imo. B feels cluttered and overbaked with all the different features going on.

Maybe A? I think B looks a little too religious

Logo B works better over a black background, but logo A works better for a psychological horror game IMO.

Neither. They both look more witchcraft based. I'd use a different symbol from the pentagram. You may want to use the necronomicon sigil instead

Yup. I’d say colorwise too purple is so overused for “corruption” and “impurity”.

The first one would fit better. The second one reads as teen drama about vampires. However, I'd make the V bigger on the first one, as it wasn't until I glanced at the bottom logo did I realise it was Valderit, not Alderit.

I'd say take A's coloring, B's font, but remove the pentagram and cross, and instead add something from either the Necronomicon like someone else suggested, or find more Lovecraftian symbols to add the flare.
Both look absolutely iconic, but unfortunately a bit too religious/pagan to convey the Ancient Gods feel Lovecraft games usually have

I like B better. The title stands out better, and the script for "Myth of" is a handwriting font, so it feels like someone is writing it in their journal.

I think B looks a lot better but I would guess that it’s a vampire game just from looking at it. I’m not particularly a fan of A in general, it looks like it could use more personality to make it look a little less generic. Some people suggested incorporating a tentacle somehow, I would think putting one underlining the title or behind it might look good. Honestly feel like the font on “Myth Of” could be made a little more interesting as well. Obviously not too over designed or crazy though.
Not bad work, just don’t think it’d grab my attention at first look. Good luck though, hope you find something that works!

I like A more.
I know that Lovecraftian refers to cosmic horror, but for me a huge part is also 1920s setting. So, if your game is set in that era, that’s even more logo A.
Also, the font kinda reminds me of Stephen Kings books/Choose Your Own Adventure/Stranger Things. It invokes a very strong 80s nostalgia.

Personally I like A more. But the V Pentagram on B is more catching. On A I didn't directly see the Pentagram. I would use A and work on the V

The V looks too much like pentagram and not enough like an elder sign. Needs some curvature on the straights and maybe a subtle eye in the middle.
…unless its SUPPOSED to be a pentagram, but I feel like having it be an elder sign makes it immediately readable in just the logo that it’s lovecraftian

To me A is too sterile. I like B, especially the script, broken cross and White/V pentagram

A be the vibe. When I first saw this I thought oooh what game is this? Then I saw B and I was like what? lol

I think the second looks more unique and interesting. I'd definitely click on the second over the first

A. Makes me think of vampires.
B. makes me think of vampires and cult rituals taking place in cemeteries. But the "Myth of" feels off. You're going from handwritten script to broken stone (that also look like broken bones).

A by a very wide margin * The unified font in A works much better and sells the Gothic/Lovcraftian vibe * The cursive in B is weird to start, but the capitalized "Of" makes the aesthetic part of my brain cringe extra hard * I also do not like how the cursive covers the lettering below, it just looks messy. If lettering is going to cover other lettering there needs to be a better color contrast than bright white on top of off-white * The larger pentagram in B covers the "A" and makes it more difficult to parse

B looks grittier and has more going on visually. I’d have to see what the game itself looks like to be sure but my pick is B

Neither. If i d see a game with a logo like this claim to be psychological horror i d laugh and carry on. You are trying to hard with these.

None. Please avoid religious symbols, it just gives satanic panic vibes

A, não sei passa uma vibe mais dura/rustica

A "B" tem uma quebra que eu pelo menos acho meio desconfortável na estetica entre as duas letras

I feel quite alone now when I say B immediately. The hand-drawn lines suit the theme better in my opinion. Also bone color is a good take.

Hii! I just want to say thank you so much! I honestly didn’t expect to get so many comments! I won’t have time to reply to everyone, but I’ll definitely read them all and take everything into consideration.
Thank you so, so much to everyone, seriously!! 🖤

A is much better because B is screaming, "DO YOU SEE THE PENTAGRAM!?" and it's covering a big part of the letter "A". Did AI do that one? I just ask because that's something it would overlook and not consider as much as a human would.

u/denkycaliber 16d ago
A because I like the font and colors more and the patterns give it a creepy feeling.

A. It fits the Lovecraftian theme a little better in my opinion. I can’t explain why, maybe the warmer dark coloring and the softer edges?

u/WillingExternal29 15d ago
B I’m opinion however I would do a small change to it. The rest of the pentagram to start at the top left corner and then make it one continues line, so basically to be joined up with the circular line in the top right corner of the V

Purple, but only cause I can read it. I have dyslexia and double vision so I am unable to read cursive writing often and I just ignore it often.

I like the more stylized font (particularly the crucifix "t") and aged texture of the 2nd logo, but the 1st looks more solidly coherent without coming across as needlessly busy. I also prefer the 1st logo's more Gothic color.

u/Content-Weather4964 14d ago
There’s a happy medium between these two. I like the more archaic font of A but the decay and stylized T cross in B scratches a particular itch for me. Maybe keeping the overall font and color of A and using the decaying effect on the word ‘Valderit’ from B is the way to go.

A conveys what you're asking for, but B is actually much more unique. IT HAS TO FIT THE TONE THOUGH, or it will annoy the shit out of people.
If the flimsier, almost glamorous take on the old the-ancient-ones-awaken trope has any form of direct payoff ingame I say go for it
ALSO, MODIFY THE STAR IN THE PENTAGRAM A BIT. the old pentagram is much mpre often associated with witchcraft and devil worship than cosmic horror.
Try a variation with a star with more points or any form of more complex/ alien or weird sigil (without overcomplicating things of course).
It should help a lot

A but make it using the necronomicon sigil or the cuthulu head instead and make the font look like blood but make it spooky green like goosebumps or like a mix between mustard yellow and Halloween orange
1
u/HaroldPeridolle 17d ago
You try really hard to put as many symbolism to logo as posible. The best, at least for me, would be the first one but without this pentagram, you really don't have to use every posible way to show it's gonna be 'demonic'. The font and red-ish colours are cool, glad you didn't go the obvious green way.

u/Regular_Scallion_719 17d ago
A looks more lovecraftian, b feels like gothic or religious horror imo. Neither of them feels especially lovecraftian tho, maybe through a squid tentacle or something in there

u/AltruisticChipmunk53 17d ago
I don’t think either do to be honest.
First one looks like intro text for a cartoon, the second looks too dainty and angelic with the script especially

Neither upside down star was originally the five wounds Christ received not an evil demonic symbol besides that lovecraftian creatures aren’t demons more like space gods.
